    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

I've been playing Fable 2 since it's release with a pretty G o o d [Good] number of glitches along the way. I've had to re-boot my console a dozen times due to the game freezing up at certain points. Today was apparently it. I donated a bunch of gold to the Temple of Light and recieved a sweet sword that I was totally pumped to use. I ran down the hill, stopped, and then saved my game. Coming back to it later tonight, after I put my kids to bed, as soon as the game loads up my saved game, it freezes. I waited several minutes only to have nothing happen. I re-started my XBOX four times with the same result, my game loads, my game freezes. I've had this XBOX since December of 2007, and have had absolutley no trouble with it. It doesn't even get warm after several hours of playing. Immediately after all this Fable 2 freezing, I put in Soul Calibur 4, it played just fine, then I put in Rock Band 2, I played it for 45 minutes without so much as a hiccup. So obviously, the problem lies with Fable 2. Please fix this Lionhead. I'm simply not investing any more of my time in this game for several months until you manage to put this right. By the way, just a piece of professional advice, don't push something out the door that's obviously broken just to make a deadline. You can make something fast, or you can make it right, but you can't do both. Down []

Re: fable 2 overheated my xbox

Isnt that crappy, ive had my xbox360 since june of last year and no probs.  My fable 2 was freezing so i deleted the coop patch and all was well. I was off to do the hero of skill quest and all of a sudden my tv went to black and my box was flashing 2red on the left side. I went down and felt it was hot as hell. Turned it off and let it cool down, now its ok. The only thing i can think of is Fable 2 made my box run damn hard. It was only on for 2 hours, its not like i keep the thing in a boiler its well ventilated. At least it wasnt a total 3red ring of death. Anyone else have this problem? Hmm [^o)]

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

To add my experience to the mix...

I'm having trouble with Fable 2, it was ok, but I had it freeze when in dungeons. This happened a few times. The console didn't crash, I could get back to the dashboard, but the game would just freeze and not respond. Well, now, it happens almost every time I play the game. It can be 10 mins in or a couple of hours in, but ultimately it will freeze. And recently it seems to do it sooner than later, and also outside of dungeons. Its making the game unplayable. Because I'll get some way, and lose all my progress down to a freeze. I try saving very regular anyway, but still its becoming too unreliable to play.

Well I don't know, I thought it could be my console, but the freezing is only happening with Fable 2! And it doesn't actually crash the console, which makes me think its the software. The disc is fine, no scratches etc. I tried clearing the Xbox360 cache, and not installing the co-op patch, but the game still froze on me, usually when I try to enter Wraithmarsh (at the moment). Sometimes the whole UI just runs very very slow, like a couple of minutes between opening panes and redrawing until it stops completely.

The first time it froze on me was in the crucible. Mid way through. Very annoying. Then it happened in Echo Mine. Went very laggy until it stopped completely. But now it happens in the open, as I select Region and then travel to Wraithmarsh. As I enter Bloodstone (or whatever the location is) and walk about a little, it just freezes completely.

Perhaps my save game is screwed? I suppose I could try and create a new character, without the co-op patch installed and see how it plays then?

I guess I might have to just wait and see what Lionhead come up with..

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

My original save crashed at Bloodstone, usual freezing, menu taking forever to load etc. When I put the disc in it crashed at loading menu or if I tried a new save it crashed at the music box bit. Sent disc back and thought I would try a new one. Game save crashes with the black screen when loading blood stone. I started a new save and so far no issues. I can join somebody else's game using the hero save that crashes without a problem.

Not sure but this disc seems to run at a more normal speed than the last one, but it maybe I got used to the excessive noise the xbox makes when I played Fable.

Surely we must be closer to getting a fix for this?

Also like to say game is far to short. Main quest is tiny!!!

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

i read a lot about the freezing and so on.

while playing i hoped the whole time that it won't happen to me.

today my second save is ruined. i can't load the game.

in my other save, i can't move to "bowertümpel".

shall i claim the game? i don't think that it would be helpful ...

i think it's just a huge and nasty bug. but this bug ruins the whole so called masterpiece.

yes, the game is fantastic, but it's unplayable with that kind of bugs.

please lionhead, i kneel down, pleeeeaaaseee fix this problem ...

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

I'm having freezing problems everytime I do the quest through wraithmarsh it keeps freezing half way through and wont come off the loading page. I brought my disc back to the shop today and all they would do is clean it for me. They told me to bring it home try it again and if it does the same they will change it for me. But even if I get a new game will it still freeze? This is so fustrating as I was really enjoying the game!!

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

I just purchased this game yesterday and played it for the first time today.

It seems that I have already experienced a game-ending freeze. I started a game, got to the first objective (Magical or Mystical Murdock or whatever that guys name is) and the game froze. The snow still falls but nothing else moves. I exited to the dashboard and tried again 10+ times with the same result. One time, the banner with his name on it was blank and blurry. I tried sprinting there, and then exploring a bit before going there but nothing worked. Occasionally the game froze right after the sister is done talking, and another time she just stood there and said nothing.

I have never had any problems with my XBOX before getting Fable II.

This is the frst new game I have purchased since COD4 so I was very excited but now I am extremely dissapointed. I guess I will just have to play Gears of War 2 once I get that until a patch is released. Please make it soon.

I heard that this game may be causing the RROD so I refuse to play it until it is fixed.

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

I'm praying I don't have the problems that I've been reading about. I own a Halo 3 X360 and I've never had any real problems with my copy of Fable 2. But every time I get a bit of "lag" I hold my breath. afraid [:afraid:]

It's sad to see so many upset people, I fully understand the the huge ammount of frustration when a game that you enjoy and have been putting a large ammount of time into is suddenly unplayable with the only option of playing again being that you have to begin again.

I believe that Lionhead is not the only company responsible for putting the game on the store shelves unchecked. Perhaps they were pushed to a deadline and were hoping to get patches out before such massive glitches were found.

Alternativley,  the game has only been out for, what, a month? A little under? They might already have their heads down and bums up working like crazy to solve these issues. They arn't going to be able to click their fingers and *BAM* just like that, it'l be all better. These things take time.

**Sorry Lionhead staff if I offend here, I know I hate it when customers try to tell me how to do my job.** But the most important thing here for you to keep the angry gamers at bay would be to inform them of known glitches, any plans on how to fix them and whatnot. If I've learned anything about retail, it's that if the customer has to wait for something specific I need to inform them of what I'm doing or planning on doing so that they don't get too frustrated too fast. Something that they think is quite a simple process may be longer than they thought beause of company policies and procedures. They also know I'm not just fibbing and ducking off for coffee. ^^ [^^] **End**

(I have no idea what goes into creating a game, the processes for finding and solving a glitch so large or the ammount of time needed to do this. So if I am wrong. I will give my humble apologies.)

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

I am totally not happy with Lionhead right now. They seem to not be bothered at all with Customer Service or product support. It is HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING! I have had this freezing issue with Fable 2, Which I purchased in advance on the very day that Presales opened on the game, many months ago. We got the game and it started freezing. I came to this forum and noticed that NO ONE FROM LIONHEAD RESPONDS TO ANYTHING ON THE FORUM.  So, I went to the contact page and had two options: 1. Call England and hope it doesn't DESTROY my phone bill. I know in the US Tech support calls often place you on eternal hold. My second option was to email them, so I did that. See Below:

Are you guys working on anything to correct the game freeze issues in the Xbox 360? I paid full in advance for Fable 2 on the day that it went up for presales. I have looked forward to it for many many months. Upon getting it I played for about three hours under my original Xbox live account. My wife and son both created their own heroes and began under her Xbox live account and his non Xbox live account. chemas-microsoft-comSurprise [:O]fficeSurprise [:O]ffice" />> >

Problem is this. My character, the one that I originally downloaded the patch provided by Xbox live and the Limited Edition, froze and I felt that perhaps the Character save was corrupted somehow. I erased the Character saved and restarted the game. I made it past the point where I had previously been with no issues and after about 4 hours of gaming it froze again. Now it freezes within twenty seconds or so of loading so I am a little perturbed and to boot, my wife and son are much further along in the game and have no freeze issues.

I thought perhaps the limited edition content may have been corrupted so I removed that since it was not necessary for game play. > >

Your forums contain many complaints similar to mine but NO RESPONSE from Lionhead. > >

I am going to ask, are you planning on doing anything about this? Is there a reason for the freezing?> >

I have had this 360 unit for less than 5 months so I doubt it is a hardware issue, besides none of the other games played on it freeze.> >

Please respond to this email as I truly love the games you have created and I don’t mind for a second paying $60 US for a game, as long as it actually will allow me to experience it. > >

I think it's screwed up that No human actually responds ot the email at the company that developed the game. What's worse is that I referenced the LACK OF LIONSHEAD'S RESPONSE ON THEIR OWN FORUMS in my email. I just hope some dude there can read one of these threads and post an official response, one that will give a suggestion on if the issue will be repaired. I know that XBOX Tech support will be the ones who supposedly have an answer to the problem, but I have dealt with THOSE CHUCKLEHEADS BEFORE. It goes like this you call and the call gets rerouted to Bangledesh where Delwar Chowdhury the local Indian tech support operator reads off of his script. Then he tells you to power down your xbox, after twenty or so times he'll tell you that despite the fact that your xbox plays all of your other games it must be a video cable or some other mindles nonsensical issue.

I DEMAND AN ANSWER FROM THE DEVELOPERS AS TO WHAT THE ISSUE IS AND A DIRECT RESPONSE AS TO HOW THEY INTEND TO MAKE IT RIGHT. Then I will be satisfied and either finish the game, which is all  really ever wanted to do, or go on to something else and savor the memories of the irst game.

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

My game had a disk read error after fast travelling from Bowerstone to Oakfield. I was about 15 seconds in Oakfield when it happened. I restarted the game after checking my disk (nothing to see) and now my game freezes right after the Lionhead logo. A nice white screen. I can't even start a new game or anything because i acn't even get in the main menu. When the game freezes the disk stops spinning too...

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

I have wasted soooo much time on this game - incredibly disappointed.

1st game - about 20 hours in - get a disk read error whilst saving = black screen of death on load

= a few days of swearing, and saying that I won't play it again....

calm down, and think - must be just a glitch - it won't happen again

2nd game - about 12 hours in - no disk read error, just a freeze on a loading screen mid game = black screen of death again

Have tried deleting the update etc. all to no avail.

Lionhead -you made a nice game, looks and plays great, but commits the ultimate sin for a game - it becomes unusable after getting the user addicted.

This isn't a "glitch" - this the ultimate bug - it is Armageddon, game destroyed!

Unbelievable that you didn't spot it during user testing.

In the UK you are certainly liable under the sale of G o o d [Good]s act (G o o d [Good]s should perform the function for which they were designed for a reasonable amount of time), in the US I expect a class action suit will be around the corner....

Anyone who has had the black screen of death once - give up, don't waste any more time on this 360 version of cold turkey!

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

I've done the same thing, as have many other people. I just want to say that first of all, it is NOT your xbox.

Yesterday I went out and bought a brand new xbox (there go your theories on it being the 2007 editions. nice.)

So I put my brand new fable 2 into my brand new xbox, only to have it freeze just past the "this is a magical mirror" *** during childhood. Lionhead has (likely knowingly) released a product that does not perform the function which they stated it would. A lot of people have looked forward to this for a long time, so what would another few weeks of waiting for it have been? Especially if it was an actual finished, working product? (by finished I mean containing online co-op.) The problem has to be in the actual game, because it's not my xbox, it's not my hard drive (got a new one too.) Also, even if it was the xbox, a game is created to be ran off of a platform. The platform is not made for the game. I hope they come out with a patch that fixes this pretty soon before people start to realize that hey, maybe we did get fucked here.

Hmm. This all stinks. Should we be going straight to Microsoft? I've waited absolutely ages for this game to come out.....
  •  11-08-2008, 18:05 3217165 in reply to 3214950

I think I have "solved" it

This freezing bug bit me in a very specific way. I was playing fine but my XBox was disconnected from the Internet because my wireless router was dead. I fixed the router and downloaded the patch. Not too long afterwards, I was hit with the freezing bug.

I cleared the cache, refused the download, and deleted all my games. Still I was cursed by the freezing bug. Then, I unplugged my XBox from the Internet and everything is quite happy again. I have been playing fine with no problem. Granted, I may still be hit by the freezing bug, but I can faithfully reproduce it by downloading the patch or connecting to the Internet.

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

I too, have this same issue occurring. I not only get the black screen, but at times when it freezes i get multiple lines and colors across my screen. I am also unable to bring up the dashboard or do anything but shut it off. I'm about halfway through the game, so this is a huge disappointment, with the hype and excitement I had for Fable 2. At one point I even got a brief RROD - luckily it was fine after I rebooted it. I cannot play at all. I've cleared caches, etc and still no luck.
The apparent lack of response has also made it clear that Lionhead chooses not to address this issue. Understandably, it may take some time bring a solution to the table. There's a lot of issues with this game that need addressed. However, the least they could do for all of us who shelled out the money for this game is to respond with a "hey guys, we're working on it" so that we know we're not left in the cold.
Even if this was a rush job, I'd much rather wait another 6 months for them to get it right than to deal with this. Myself, I'm used to waiting. I'm a FF fan, and those things take years!  Quality over quantity guys. It's a known way of business that works. Needless to say if this isn't addressed soon, Lionhead will no longer recieve my patronage.

    Re: fable 2 freezing issues

Just started getting the freezing today, similar to that experienced by The ladydragon, lots of colours and lines, xbox guide button not working, and restarting the console the only way to fix it. Really pissed off by this, and hope Lionhead get to hear of it and do something about it ASAP.
