wow.

What a timely thread.  I downloaded the patch for Fable 2 the other day (yesterday I think).  Anyway, game worked fine.  Turned on my Xbox today (12 hours later).  RROD, all 4 segments flashing red, the Xbox wouldn't even start.  What happpen at firts was that it said that it could not read the disc.  Tried a few other games, it couldn't read them either.

I got my XBox 360 in Nov 2006 and I have never had a problem.  Even the freezing and bugs associated with Fable 2. It has worked perfectly until the patch.

I am not saying the patch is the fault, but maybe it is.  Will be sending the Box off tomorrow and will post an update here on the reasons given by Xbox Switzerland for the box RROD'ing on me. Damn, just a couple of days before DLC too, what luck.

Just an update from Xbox support here in Switzerland.  Apparenttly my 360 has a hardware problem, so nothing to do with the patch in their opinion.  As I said above, I never had any problems with the game which I think is brilliant (a little easy, but still brilliant). Anyway, Xbox support here hasn't a clue why it just packed in.  I now have to wait 12 days b4 I can download the DLC

Are there any suggestions as to why our brand new copies of Fable 2 freeze so much! I'm unable to make any real progress and it's really pissing me off. I paid sixty dollars for this game, and even went out and got a new disc. The thing still doesn't work correctly. I'm able to play it for an unsatisfing forty-five minutes at most, there has to be an answer, but I guess Lionhead doesn't really care enough about their consumers to give any assistance.

i was wondering by doing this maintance will it don anything to the stuff i already have on my hard drive???

as of 1/18 has there been a fix to the freezing?

Nope, I think after turning my xbox on and off 42 times I finally beat Knothold Island module.

I have been having a hard time playing Fable 2 because of the freezing issue, but after searching for a solution, I finally found one.  I read someone's post to "Just install the game to your hard drive and it should work (disk read error)".  I decided to give it a shot and the game works great. I am now trying to find that post and thank that person.  I also updated the game prior to installing it onto my hard drive.

Yea, I did that too and now it works fine, so anyone still having freezing issues INSTALL FABLE 2 TO YOUR HARD DRIVE AND EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE.  Thanks to the guy who posted that.  I wouldn't have tried it otherwise.

i bought the game yesterday after a tough decision on fallout 3 or fable 2. got it from circuit city cus they have 10% off since they are goin out of buisness. bring it home and freezes right after the poop lands on his head. then freezes randomly at different places. i got to the part in the castle finaly after 3 hrs of play and saving about every 3 seconds incase of freezing. i asked circuit city for new disk they said no so im gonna try the cache thing and downloading to hardrive but can someone explain what is my cache? THANKS

this is friggin ridiculous. two seperate discs, brand new 360, and freezes all the time. i bought this instead od a hard drive!?? CRAPTACULAR lionhead.. totally unacceptable. and whats  worse, gamestop wont take this defective damn game back!

Mines freezes , most of the times while i click to do something ( a particular action)
for example looking at the information about a building or digging or talking to a shopkeeper,also a few times while casting spells etc..hapends about 50% of the time "i've had to restart my xbox or quit fable a dozen+ times so far".. sometimes it just freeze as some have explained , you still here the music and the enviroment is still active [e.x: trees,grass, rain,wind...(etc)]
When that particular issue occurs i can simply go to my Xbox dashboard. Tho some other times my xbox just stops responding completely, i can't access the dashboard , the music stops and everything else is frozen and i have to shut it down.
For those who think this only occurs on older xbox's well i just bought mine about a month ago it.
To add Fable never use to freeze or have any problems, it looks as if its since i downloaded the Xbox live patch and/or Knowhole glade for fable 2.

And all my other games seem to be working properly.

I started playing and everything was fine. I played through the childhood no problems. No freezing. Once I grew up and got to Bower Lake, that is when i started getting freezing problems. No particualar thing seems to make it freeze. It has frozen on me in different spots at different times.  This is getting annoying. I just started getting into it after a long wait for this game and now this.

I have also tried the "install to your hard drive" fix and it worked great. I have now had at least seven hours of uninterupted play and it is still going...plus it is much more quiet than running the disc drive....

i have just rebrought fable 2 after trading it for gears 2 i have tried 3 copys and the same bs has happened 5 times at different points in the game i am sick of these great games beening destroyed by companys that cant fix simple things like this i have just put it in my harddrive and i have just got into the guild tunnel under the ground and so far so you should try it just for another idear but still shame on you loinhead for stuffing up fable job hope you cant sleep at night.

I for one am very frustrated and am calling a boycott on all lionhead products until they address this issue.

I thought it should put it out there, that my brother installed the game on the xbox's local hard drive, and now the game works perfectly, with the updates etc, and this is one that we got over the holidays. hope this helps anyone

Well, this is total crap.  After many, many hours into the game I started suffering from the "black screen of death" freezing bug when the game tried to load Brightwood. It all started with the "Blind Date" quest.

I installed game to hard drive, cleared cache, downloaded the "bug fix" patch and nothing fixed the problem. 

I kept playing for a bit, just avoiding Brightwood. Decided to try again today, and after clearing the cache and firing up the game, Fable2 tells me my "Save game file is corrupted and cannot be loaded."

WTF LIONHEAD!!!  What kind of terrible product is this?  I'd finished almost everything in the game and due to your shoddy coding it's all a waste.  Shame on you.

I have tried every way possible to get fable 2 to work and the only i found was to install the game to the hard drive. if you dont have one you can buy it off microsoft for £12.00.  Cheaper than anywhwere else by the way. lol. alternatively you can buy the special edition game which hasn't had no problems

For the record, Installing F2 to the harddrive DOES NOT fix this problem.

I installed F2 to the HDD before I ever played the game, I installed it the first time the disc was placed in the xbox. However, before I could install it, I was informed that there was an update, so I said yes to the update, then proceeded with the install to HDD.  Next I downloaded the free knotthole add on pack and launched the game...talked to my brother for a bit who said he got the paid addon pack, so I went back and upgraded to the non-free knotthole pack.

I played for over a week, went everywhere I wanted, I'm 75% done with the game and BAM !!! every kind of freeze that I have read about here is happening to me.  however I don't have load freezing. The game loads up every time, however when I try to transport, it freezes, when I walk to a destination that requires swapping out the old map location for a new map location, it freezes during the cutscene.

My brother has had all the same kinds of freezing I was having, however he did not install to HDD, I had him install it to the HDD and his freezing stopped totally as far as I know.

So, since I had installed to HDD from the very first day, I don't have any options. I will say this, this kind of freezing is EXACTLY the same kind of freezing that was happening to morrowind. the solution there was to sleep for 24 hours 3 times back to back and then save to clean up the WAD files and game data files. I have tried this and variations of this and had limited success, but that was short lived. basically I'm dead in the water, but I am convinced that this is more than just one problem. I believe its more like several problems one which includes a video driver problem which relates to the RRoD posts I have read about while people were playing Fable2 and the screens going black. I have experienced both black and white screens during the cut-scene which ends up with a locked up xbox360.

for those who think they solved the problem by installing to the HDD, you need to come back and post how long you were able to play before it started back up with the freezing. Like I said, I played for well over a week before the problem started, but now that I've been playing for 2 weeks it has become unplayable at all due to the freezes.

Just wanted to Add, forgot to mention in my last post , when the game first came out , I played when ever I could and never had any of these problems, I actually finished the game TWICE. And i have the same xbox 360 at the moment that i had when the game first came out ( Xbox 360 Arcane with HD from previous xbox PRO) But Ever since I logged in to Xbox live and received a patch and downloaded Knowhole Glade thats when these freezes started (roughfly 2 weeks ago) , strangely enought i finished Knowhole glade with little or no problems maybe a little lag here and there but thats about it. Then right when it was done I left, came back about a day later wanted to try and see what the mystery boxes in that shop had, but couldnt do much thats when practicly everytime i talked to a shop keeper or changed town or dug or received a gift. (random actions)           I would freeze / glitch / bug ...etc.


And i was looking foward to play again and try different things but now i beraly load in and BAM something goes wrong and have to either exit fable or restart my xbox.

my game did not encounter the frezing glitch in the childhood area(i accepted the update aswell) it started to freeze regulary however after letting a friend join my game it froze every 15-20 mins. I solved this my turning orbs off and saving it to my harddrive ive had a amont of playing time now without any freezing issues.

You may find that everyone having this problem in this thread might all have something in common... And heres a hint... Its not the the locking up or freezing problem itself.

Something I've discovered might also be a issue for your consoles... Some of these problems may occur because your Xbox 360 might not have a "Built-in Hard Drive."
Elites have been reported to be scratching disc's

And older model "Hard Drives" are also reported to act up on newer Xbox 360's that play the game. (Taking your old Hard Drive out of a 05-06 model Xbox 360 and putting it on a 07-08 )

Wait a second... You're now considering that the hardware is the fault? The hardware this game was built around?

First off. Elites don't scratch discs, it's the make of the dvd rom and the condition the dvd rom is in that will result in discs being scratched or should the console be bumped while it's reading.. Elites use the same DVD rom as other consoles. You can't put out uninformed sweeping generalizations like that.

The Hardware revisions were due to overheating issues as well as new DVD roms to hopefully combat piracy and supply/cost from manufacturers probably played a part.. Additional heatsink added, less power consumption, different fan model,  cpu shrink, etc.

Why would the HDD play a part? I think they're all Seagate HDDs, hell they're probably using the same model seagate(?) 2.5" HDD 5400rpm they used in 2005.

Come on lionhead. Step up. One or the other:
1) " We acknowledge there are still multiple game ruinging bugs and are working on a patch that will be out by ETA"

2) We are aware of people with game ruining glitches even after the patch yet we haven't decided to fix the problem due to costs that eat into our profit. For now if you encounter bugs tough it out.

I have the same problem lShadowl has.  I played this thing for over a month, beat it a couple of times, etc. and then started having freezing problems.  I too had downloaded the Knothole Island thing and had played it and beat it.  But just this week, it started freezing up.  I went and bought a new disc, just to make sure it wasn't scratches or a bad disc.  I deleted all of my saved games and tried to start a new game off of the new disc.  Game would freeze up in the childhood area (usually before or during the mirror scene).  So I tried installing to hard drive, clearing cache, etc... and nothing worked.  I called XBOX support and they walked me through the same things I had already done and also had me run the game without the hard drive attached to the XBOX.  No Luck.  So while I was waiting on them to switch me to a "supervisor" I decided to back track to when the problem started.  All of my problems started after I downloaded and played the Resident 5 demo.  So I went and deleted this and several other demos that I had downloaded, deleted all of my Fable II save games, delete the game off of the hard drive, cleared the cache, restarted the XBOX, then started the game from disc.  I did not allow the system to download the update.  So far it's been up and running for over an hour.  My next step is going to be to allow the system to get the update and try and download my Knothole thing again and see what happens.  Keeping my fingers crossed!!!!

WTF... Earlier Fable was freezing up on loading, and my first game file got corrupted. 

I started a new game and after distorting the video my Xbox is now RROD.

Sorry everyone, game still freezes.  I decided to just hang it up and play something else.  Now everything freezes.  Took the XBOX back to Gamestop and traded it in for a new one.  I hope this one doesn't freeze up!  Glad I took out the extended warranty. 

My game freezes when i am loading my game. it totally stops when it gets to the loading tip about expressions. How can i fix this problem so i can play the expansion?
