By reading your post, I get the impression that you put the blame on me because I posted some suggestion that you should start a new game with a new Hero to obtain the Bonus Content (after you opened the chest for the rewards).

Please read the whole thread: you'll notice I said, "Don't blame me! If you fancy these things you won't mind going the distance." No offense, but IT IS NOT MY FAULT IF YOU HAVE TO START A NEW GAME WITH A NEW HERO JUST TO GET THAT BONUS CONTENT. Again, it's Love-It-Or-Leave-It thing, means that Bonus Content is not story-related item.

According to your post (the other one not in this thread), you got the Bonus Content from the code Microsoft sent to your e-mail address, already redeemed it and downloaded the content, and now you can't get the Bonus Content because you've already opened the chest for your rewards. Is that true?

In this case, the problem is that the Bonus Content doesn't work exactly like the rewards, which can be redeemed even after the chest has already been opened before. Please wait a couple minutes so I can test this issue and post anything I found, hopefully can solve your problem.

Uhhh...are you Lionhead AndoWilliams? Because, if you read my post, maybe you'd know that what I was lamenting was LH's weird choice to not allow a re-open as part of the DLC. I know it's not your fault that I have to start a new game. But this was PRE-ORDER bonus content. Key part here, the prefix of PRE. As in, before the order. So when the order (the game) came in, ideally, I would have this content for my first characters with this product. If they release it later because of an error on their part, they should be allowing you to use it for your first characters, as those are the characters you had planned to apply that content to prior to the release of the game. I paid the extra amount for it, so I should get the intended benefit from it.

 

This is not your fault. Can I just say, for future reference, that any post I make in this forum, ever, on any thread, or as a thread starter, will in no way make anything, ever, AndoWilliams' fault. I'd sign it in blood if it made you feel better. I am blaming Lionhead.

I played the chicken kicker minigame to unlock 500 gold. It worked...but when I opened the chest, all I got was the 500 gold. Even though I have DLC supposedly waiting for me in the chest. I tried this twice.

This might or might not work with everyone: if you're connected to LIVE when you're opening the chest using one Hero and obtain the Bonus Content (if any) and your A Hero's Tales rewards, your next Hero (new Hero after that one explained before) suppose to be able to obtain the rewards without have to stay connected to LIVE. I've already tested this and it worked that way, but I can't confirm if this trick will work for anyone else. Try it if you like, but if you fail, please refer to my previous post about how to obtain your rewards after you opened the chest.

Well, that's weird. After I tested your previous post, I can confirm that the only way we could obtain the Bonus Content (if we missed the opportunity to obtain it) is to start a new game with a new Hero. But in your case now... that's beyond my test results:

- I've deleted the Bonus Content first.
- I started a new game with a new Hero, go to Chamber of Fate and stand near the chest.
- I connected to LIVE, opened the chest, and the only things I got are those rewards, but not the Bonus Content. This is because I deleted the Bonus Content from my harddrive.

- I re-downloaded the Bonus Content.
- I started a new game with a new Hero.
- I went to the same location (Chamber of Fate, the treasure chest).
- I connected to LIVE, opened the chest and obtained the Bonus Content and the rewards.

So far, I can conclude that probably there's something wrong with that Bonus Content you've downloaded? I can't be so sure, but you might want to contact Microsoft for that. You know Microsoft... always doing something stupid and ridiculous like ban the wrong people and release the incomplete products (you know many US Fable II Limited Collector's Edition missing their Bonus Content card, and how they messed up with Lost Odyssey).

I'll test your issue again, and will post anything as soon as possible. Please reply anything if you still have any question.

Public Relation and/or Support is something that always give me so much fun, even if someone mock you in the face because your supervisors released something wrong. I've read thru the various suggestions/ workarounds in this thread but haven't been able to find specifics on the issue I'm having w/ the Hero's Tale reward "Feign Attack" expression book.  At the risk of making this a long/boring post, I'll provide as much info as I can.

 

(Preface: I'm always signed in to XBL when playing.  Since getting the game I have Not been "offline" except to purposely try some of the aforementioned workarounds.  Also, I've got the LCE.)

- 1st Hero(connected to XBL): hadn't heard about the Hero's Tale webgames, so was a non-issue.  I was lucky enough to have the LCE codes included w/ my game; they all came thru fine when accessing the Chamber of Fate chest.  Completed main story via "Needs of the Few".

- 2nd Hero(connected to XBL): Prior to creating my 2nd Hero, I played thru the Chicken Kickin' and Hero's Tale games and got/ redeemed all the rewards.  After creating my 2nd Hero and accessing the CoF chest for the first time, both my LCE content and the webgames rewards came thru fine.  Completed main story via "Needs of the Many".

- 3rd Hero(connected to XBL): Upon accessing the CoF chest w/ my 3rd Hero for the first time, Only the LCE content came thru; None of the webgames rewards came thru.  I remembered noticing during my 2nd Hero's playthru that some webgames items were available in shops and/or from traders, so I thought that subsequent playthrus (after initially rcving the items) would require purchasing the items at the relevant stores.  I have been able to find all the webgames items in stores or from traders Except the "Feign Attack" expression book.  It is Not available via Bowerstone Market's "Fiction Burns" or Any wandering Book Trader.  Completed main story via "Needs of the One".

 

Prior to completing my 3rd Hero's main story, I tried starting my console WithOut being connected to my broadband, starting the game and then accessing the CoF chest- no help.  Also- because the "Feign Attack" expression is a "scary/ " expression, I thought I might have to wait until I was enough before I'd either automatically get it or it would be available for purchase somewhere- neither happened.  Re: being enough= I noticed that both my / And pure/corrupt sliders Never went All The Way to / corrupt, despite going "above & beyond" what is required to push those sliders all the way to /corrupt; there was/ still is a small but noticeable amount of room left before both would be "maxed" to /corrupt.

I completed my 3rd Hero's main story earlier today and shortly thereafter started a 4th Hero, just to see if the issue w/ my 3rd Hero was an abberation.  Unfortunately, my 4th Hero Still Only got the LCE content, None of the webgames rewards.

 

Adding this issue to the host of other problems I've had, I am getting Very frustrated w/ FableII in general.  But this is still a fanTAStic game and this issue alone isn't a "deal-breaker" for me.  I don't generally "chase" achievements, tho I do like to "complete" everything in a game like this one.  Anyway, don't know that this can/ ever will be resolved, but thought I'd post and "share" w/ everyone else.

Your not the only one getting fustrated with Fable 2, trust me, but anyway, your lucky it worked at all, I played the Chicken Kickin' game and the Hero's Tale game only to get the error message when I try to claim my prize.

I am only missing 3 expressions, the Feign Attack is one, along with the other 2 scary expressions you get when your corrupt/.

No point turning myself corrupt/ to get the other 2 with out the Feign Attack one as I still will not get the achievement. Which is what I am trying to get at the end of the day.

Actually there are things you should remember when you want to buy/purchase anything in Fable II:

- You reputation is taking the main role in trading, means the more famous you are, the more varities of items available for you to buy/purchase. You'll notice in earlier part of the game, you won't be able to find any Steel or Master class of weapons. But as soon as your reputation increased, you'll see there are weapons which class is better than Rusty and/or Iron available in stores. Also consider the region's Economy value, which can "decide" whether traders have many items or not.

- Some items are random, even the Hero Doll itself. Most of the time, the doll will be available in any Jeweller and/or Gift Trader, but sometime you won't be able to see any.

- For the Feign Attack expression book, I forgot to mention: the in-game name of that book is "The Counterfeit Warrior". Also please remember that you don't have to be or corrupt to be able to buy/purchase that book. The expression books can be obtained and used by Heroes, regardless of alignments. During the moment I bought that book from Bowerstone Market Bookstore, I used a Hero with highest purity and alignment.

Also please remember, there is a bug in this game that prevents stores from updating their stock list. Sam has replied and confirmed this in one of a member's post here in this forum (I can't remember which one), and I already "saw" that happened: in one playtest, I noticed the Furniture Store didn't restock anything, except for one interior-related book. According to Sam, to have stores restock their items again we have to "play" with the Economy factor, means if it's 5-star then we have to make it 4-star or less before stores will begin restock again. If it's 4-star then we have to make it 3-star or 5-star. You can "play" with the Economy by doing these:

- Doing crimes, both noticed and unnoticed. During my test, killing a storekeeper (Safety's set to off) even without any witness around can make the Economy degraded to 1-star.

- Buying/purchasing items. The more you buy, the higher the Economy rating will rise.

I will test this again to see if that Counterfeit Warrior book is always available or missing because of that bug. During my test I was able to obtain one, but let's see if the bug will prevent me to get that book. I will post anything as soon as possible.

Again, I'm sorry if I can't give enough help. I'll try anyway I can.

Were you connected to LIVE when you opened the chest? The only way to "download" the rewards to your game is staying online when you open the chest (assuming you've already redeemed any reward). I know this is annoying, but there's no way we will able to get the reward(s) if we're not connected to LIVE.

Speaking of connecting, I'm wondering how those people without decent broadband access will be able to have those rewards. And those who got banned when playing Fable II...

I am so frustrated.  Bought a CE without a code.  Finally got my codes, put them in.  Now I can't get my CE content.

I only have one hero.  I just got the quest to find the Abbot (so not that far into the game).  I have tried disconnect from live, staying connected, nothing works.  I really don't want to start over because I have spent a fair amount of time making money.

Any thoughts from anyone?

Well, as I understand it, the idea is if you can open the chest you should be able to get the content. But you can re-open the chest every time you play the Chicken Kicker game, and every time I've tried you can't get the Bonus Content. To me, the idea that you have to start a new character to get any Bonus Content benefit is an error that needs to be rectified by LH. It wouldn't be an issue if the Bonus Content had shipped with every Limited Collector's Edition copy, instead of with 10% of them.

Yes, I was connected to XBL.  I'm always connected to XBL when playing, w/ the exception of purposefully starting my console Not connected to my DSL to try some of the workarounds mentioned in this and other threads.  When I opened the CoF chest for the First Time w/ both my 3rd and 4th Hero I only rcv'd the LCE content, none of the webgames stuff.

And to reiterate from my initial post here- I can find all the webgames items in stores and/or thru traders Except the "Counterfeit Warrior"/ Feign Attack book.  Throughout my 3rd Hero's playthru, I made it a priority to find this particular item because I had started this 3rd Hero w/ the intention of going for the "Completionist" achvmnt.  I made very frequent trips to Bowerstone Market's "Fiction Burns" as well as every area that had wandering traders.  Regardless of my manipulating the town/ area's economy and how much Renown I had, I never found this book anywhere.

I spent a great deal more time on this playthru than was necessary to actually do the main story and side-quests.  As an example:  Prior to returning to Reaver in Bloodstone to begin the "endgame", I spent easily 16-20hrs trying various things to get this book.  My Renown was over 50k; I had completed every "real" sidequest available at that point.  I would raise Bowerstone Market's economy up to 5-stars, rest for 7days 3-4 times in a row, then check "Fiction Burns"- no "Counterfeit Warrior".  I would bring the economy all the way down to 1-star, rest for 7dadys 3-4 times in a row, check "Fiction Burns"- no "Counterfeit Warrior".  Raise the economy incrementally to 2-stars, rest for a month, check, raise to 3stars, rest for a month, check, to 4-stars, rest for a month, check, back up to 5-stars, rest for a month, check.  I repeated this up&down process several times to no avail.  I should probably also mention that when I slept for 7days 3-4 times in a row, I did so outside of Bowerstone Market; Bowerlake gypsy camp, Brightwood Tower, a home in Bloodstone, a tavern in Westcliff, etc.

Lastly, while the Bowerstone Market furniture store-bug did occur during my 1st playthru and did not respond to manipulating the economy, I was able to get that store to re-stock when manipulating the economy during my 3rd Hero's playthru.  The book store, however, never had this problem/ Always had plenty of stock, just Not the "Counterfeit Warrior" book.

 

Again, I really appreciate your effort in starting this thread and offering help/ advice to other players.  I don't know that I'm really looking for/ expecting a resolution at this point; I'd be More tha happy to hear of one, but it doesn't seem likely.  If you'd like to respond w/ any more thoughts/ ideas then by all means and Thank You.  Otherwise, I'll just chalk this up to another as-yet unresolvable issue and look to LH for a solution.

I've been able to successfully get both the LCE content and the webgames rewards w/ two different Hero's, using a different GamerTag.

I've got a 2nd GamerTag, Silver, I created/used awhile back to troubleshoot a problem w/ Splinter Cell: Double Agent.  Using this GT, I was able to get everything w/o a problem.  i dont know that I did anything substantively different when using this GT vs. my "normal" GT, but on the off-chance that the specifics might be of interest/ use to someone, I'll provide them below.

This success may be something of a fluke; like several other reported issues, it may be that sometimes the content comes thru, somethimes it doesn't.  I'm considering clearing my cache and trying again w/ yet another Hero, using my normal GT, but I'm really getting tired of doing PC gaming troubleshooting on a console.  Just the way it is nowadays, I guess. (see Juiced2, MassEffect, GRID, TooHuman).

Anyway, the steps I took are below.

Using my "backup" GamerTag:

(Preface: I was connected to Live throughout this testing process.)

1) Start console/ sign-in to my "backup" GT/ launch game.  It didn't download the Co-Op update again, so I'm guessing that game updates are available to all GT on a console; I don't use this "backup" GT often enough to have much experience w/ more than one GT on a console.

2) Created New Game.  Played thru as if I were playing "for real" / not trying to skip over anything.  After reaching "Early Adulthood" and being told by Theresa to check the chest by my gypsy caravan for my equipment, I walked down to my caravan, stoppped in front of the chesst without entering the glowing yellow circle, then Saved & Exit to "Start" screen.  From there, exited to Dashboard via GuideButton.

3) Relaunched game, Continued my game.  After opening the caravan-chest (everything that should be there was), I continued playing "normally", finding a couple other chests & digspots throughout BowerLake and Hero's Tomb.  After standing in the light in the Chanber of Fate and spending XP on Lvl1 Shock, I ignored the flit-switch for the moment and opened "The Chest"- everything came thru fine; LCE content and webgames rewards.

4) Progressed thru game normally to the point where, in Bowerstone Market, Theresa tells you to find the Abbot in Oakfield.  Save & Exit to "Start" screen, exit to Dashboard via Guide Button.  Re-launch game, start New Game/ 2nd Hero on this GamerTag.

5) Progressed thru Childhood as if I were playing "normally"; made a couple different choices than I had w/ 1st Hero.  At start of Young Adulthood, just like the 1st time, Save & Exit in front of caravan chest without opening it or entering the glowing yellow circle around it.  From Start screen exit to dashboard, relaunch game, continue w/ the 2nd Hero.

6)  Continue to play "normally", reach Chamber of Fate: did everything from this point on Exactly as I had the 1st time- all the content is in the chest; LCE and webgames stuff.

Honestly, the only apparently substantive step I took while "testing" that differs from what I'd done w/ my normal GamerTag is the whole "Save&Exit at the caravan cehst, then exit to dashboard and relaunch game" song-n-dance.  It really doesn't seem to me like that would have an effect on the CoF chest, but what do I know.

3. You can get the Bonus Content by redeeming the code the game provides you one (assuming you have one) in the Bonus Content Card. Tear the Subscription Code cover to reveal the 25-characters code, enter the code by sign-in to LIVE, then go to Marketplace and select Redeem Code. Once you get the Bonus Content downloaded, it will always "be there" in you harddrive. As long as you don't delete it, the Bonus Content will always be available to any Hero(es) upon starting a new game, or your current Hero(es) if you still have the chest intact (closed), so there is NO NEED to re-download the content again.

5. No funny stuff! For those who happened to buy Fable II standard edition (not the Limited Collector's Edition), there is NO WAY you can get the Bonus Content from the chest, no matter how much you fancy it. You can still obtain your redeemed web rewards, but opening the chest to get your web rewards doesn't mean you will also HAVE the Bonus Content. Those are two different kind of contents, mind you. Hope this helps.

 

I did not receive the code card in my Limited Collector's Edition of the game. I have just received the code via e-mail on Friday though.

I input the code as instructed in the e-mail and have tried with 3 different characers now but still have been unable to get anything out of the chest. I keep getting the "visit fable2.com" message. I have not previously opened the chest.

One character I have finished the main story for the game, one I had just begun the game and had reached Bowerstone for the first time. and the third I started a new hero after inputing the code and progressed to to point of getting to the Chest in the Guild Cave. None of my heroes have ever opened the chect. And all of them I have followed the Save, quite, DL, load, open chest instruction that came with the code e-mail.

I actually have the LCE of the game, fancy cardboard dust sleeve, bonus making of disk and all, as well as the receipt I saved since I didn't get the code with the game when I bought it. So any helpful suggestions here would be really nice. I'm a little upset that almost a full month after getting the game I still have not gained access to the bonus content I paid extra for. I played through once with a character just sucking it up that I didn't get the bonus content for him. I have since shelved the game so I could wait for the activation code to arrive so I could enjoy the game a second time but with the bonus items. Kind of like to play some more fable 2 at some point.

Nobody can help me? That's nice. I got an e-mail from Lionhead sending me to this forum to help fix my non working code problem. Am I not in the right place? This appears to be the place to go but I have yet to find a fix to my issue in all 3 pages of  replies. I have actually tried all those that pertain to the LCE content with no luck. Maybe someone might direct me to the spot where I might actually find a way to have my LCE copy accept the extra content I spent an extra $10 to get.

As for calling xbox support, I am pretty sure I am done with them after the last go round, they are beyond worthless.  I guess that is what happens when you farm you call centers out to the lowest bid.

You know Microsoft... always doing something stupid and ridiculous like ban the wrong people and release the incomplete products (you know many US Fable II Limited Collector's Edition missing their Bonus Content card, and how they messed up with Lost Odyssey). I'll test your issue again, and will post anything as soon as possible. Please reply anything if you still have any question.

 

Well, as I understand it, the idea is if you can open the chest you should be able to get the content. But you can re-open the chest every time you play the Chicken Kicker game, and every time I've tried you can't get the Bonus Content. To me, the idea that you have to start a new character to get any Bonus Content benefit is an error that needs to be rectified by LH. It wouldn't be an issue if the Bonus Content had shipped with every Limited Collector's Edition copy, instead of with 10% of them.

It seems like you're not the only one who have such issue. Some of my colleagues overseas Japan also claimed to experience the same issue. So far I can't test it with my own copy of Fable II, since I have no problem obtaining the Bonus Content from the chest. But I will check this issue with my colleagues who did experience this issue. I will post anything as soon as I found anything.

Yes, I was connected to XBL.  I'm always connected to XBL when playing, w/ the exception of purposefully starting my console Not connected to my DSL to try some of the workarounds mentioned in this and other threads.  When I opened the CoF chest for the First Time w/ both my 3rd and 4th Hero I only rcv'd the LCE content, none of the webgames stuff.

And to reiterate from my initial post here- I can find all the webgames items in stores and/or thru traders Except the "Counterfeit Warrior"/ Feign Attack book.  Throughout my 3rd Hero's playthru, I made it a priority to find this particular item because I had started this 3rd Hero w/ the intention of going for the "Completionist" achvmnt.  I made very frequent trips to Bowerstone Market's "Fiction Burns" as well as every area that had wandering traders.  Regardless of my manipulating the town/ area's economy and how much Renown I had, I never found this book anywhere.

I spent a great deal more time on this playthru than was necessary to actually do the main story and side-quests.  As an example:  Prior to returning to Reaver in Bloodstone to begin the "endgame", I spent easily 16-20hrs trying various things to get this book.  My Renown was over 50k; I had completed every "real" sidequest available at that point.  I would raise Bowerstone Market's economy up to 5-stars, rest for 7days 3-4 times in a row, then check "Fiction Burns"- no "Counterfeit Warrior".  I would bring the economy all the way down to 1-star, rest for 7dadys 3-4 times in a row, check "Fiction Burns"- no "Counterfeit Warrior".  Raise the economy incrementally to 2-stars, rest for a month, check, raise to 3stars, rest for a month, check, to 4-stars, rest for a month, check, back up to 5-stars, rest for a month, check.  I repeated this up&down process several times to no avail.  I should probably also mention that when I slept for 7days 3-4 times in a row, I did so outside of Bowerstone Market; Bowerlake gypsy camp, Brightwood Tower, a home in Bloodstone, a tavern in Westcliff, etc.

Lastly, while the Bowerstone Market furniture store-bug did occur during my 1st playthru and did not respond to manipulating the economy, I was able to get that store to re-stock when manipulating the economy during my 3rd Hero's playthru.  The book store, however, never had this problem/ Always had plenty of stock, just Not the "Counterfeit Warrior" book.

 

Again, I really appreciate your effort in starting this thread and offering help/ advice to other players.  I don't know that I'm really looking for/ expecting a resolution at this point; I'd be More tha happy to hear of one, but it doesn't seem likely.  If you'd like to respond w/ any more thoughts/ ideas then by all means and Thank You.  Otherwise, I'll just chalk this up to another as-yet unresolvable issue and look to LH for a solution.

So far, I have no other suggestion. The Economy bug is beyond anything I can solve. As for that Counterfeit Warrior expression book, I still unable to pinpoint the exact location of the book and can't say anything other than I bought it from Bowerstone Bookstore and Travelling Book Trader in Rookridge.

Nobody can help me? That's nice. I got an e-mail from Lionhead sending me to this forum to help fix my non working code problem. Am I not in the right place? This appears to be the place to go but I have yet to find a fix to my issue in all 3 pages of  replies. I have actually tried all those that pertain to the LCE content with no luck. Maybe someone might direct me to the spot where I might actually find a way to have my LCE copy accept the extra content I spent an extra $10 to get.

As for the Bonus Content that appeared to be not working, I also heard the same issue from many people, some from this forum and most from my own colleagues. It seems like there's something wrong with the downloaded Bonus Content. Not that I blamed people who downloaded it, only that it seems to be not compatible to be used. So far, I can't find any solution and/or suggestion to this, but I go check my colleagues who have this issue and see if there's anything we could do to get that Bonus Content working (obtainable).
