What do you guys think about a site upgrade?

    http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/6.78281

I noticed that these fun people at Excapist have a fun little feature on there forum pages which is rather humourous.

    *Behold*

A few pages down it says this:

     Sweet GH:WT

Edit: Hilarious review and do the drums really not work all that well?

User was banned for: The Xbox Screwed Me Over!. (Permanent)

As you'll notice once someone is banned it tends to "whiten" out there text on every post he has ever made and tell us how long there banned and which thread they got banned for includding a link.

I came across it and I was like "Ah, what a neat idea!"
And it had me giggling like a school girl when I clicked on the link and saw the reason why they banned him... Stick out tongue [:P]

Admins, mods, everyone else... Whats your thoughts on a site upgrade for something similar to this?

Re: What do you guys think about a site upgrade?

The old forums had a way of actually stating that a person was banned (by saying it under their username).  I indeed wish we had something similar on these forums.  Many times I ban members but because it's not always obvious that a member has been banned I get reports for some of their older posts, even if they've already been banned.

Not sure if linking to the thread they got banned in is a G o o d [Good] idea.  Usually a G o o d [Good] idea to put such things behind us.  Also it presents the problem of what to do if the thread is deleted, etc.

What about the Karma system? I've helped out a few members on these forums and they have said something along the lines of, "now if they still had the karma system i would give you a G o o d [Good] rating" or something like that. What exactly was the karma system and why was it deleted when we transfered from the old forum to this one? Would it be hard to bring it back?

You earned reputation by other people giving you reputation. It wasnt transfered to the new forums as they are completely crap not to mention nobody cares about it anymore.

Bring back Vbulletin, hoooray, hooraaaaay and now the big one : Hooooooraaaaaaaaay.

Re: What do you guys think about a site upgrade?

Would it not be possible to simply edit a persons sig, custom title and/or avatar (or use the badge system) to indicate those who have been banned?

The only thing worse than beating a dead horse is betting on one.

I do not like that idea only because I was banned for three days about two months back because I posted something dumb and stupid and I regret it.

It wouldn't be permenant, just whilst you were banned. Several times I've expected a person to post, only to work out a few days later that they'd been banned for something else.

Re: What do you guys think about a site upgrade?

Well I came up with one G o o d [Good] reason why these forums could do with a "Ban System" like that one.

I mean take alook at the link below his posts what do you notice?

You notice that, that person got banned for a post he/she made in there... Wouldn't this be very helpful to rookies to recognize what not to do... And how embaressing a ban can be? Wink [;)]

Not only that it could help out people who got banned but didn't know why to find out why.

Ive seen more then one person get banned... Make a second account and start spamming up the forums asking why they where banned then just having a temper tantrum.

So maybe a system like this one can be in Lionhead Forums best interests? Hmm [^o)]

Re: What do you guys think about a site upgrade?

    That's a G o o d [Good] idea - I like that, although I'd be surprised if it happened. I was going to suggest:
    deliriousstudios:
    (or use the badge system)
...that - a banned badge, and yes, the with reason bit would be quite G o o d [Good] - would help slightly with any disputes about whether they should've been banned or not, wouldn't it? Wink [;)]

Like I said - I'd be really surprised if it happened, but it would be a great thing to see on these forums Smily [:)]

^That would be my main reason against it, the way it is now, if someone gets banned it's not public knowledge why and if it's only a temporary ban, I think the ban is punishment enough really. That said, I'm nosy and I know I'd enjoy reading them.

I like the idea of a badge for permanently banned accounts though. Just something saying "banned" maybe?

...Is it just me, or are they a bit ban-happy on that forum? WTF [:wtf:]
