    Sovvolf:
    The Bag:

Mass Effect 2 on the other hand will be a day 1 purchase.

Unless of cource there next trailer includes Garret(or what ever you named him) Sheperd having hardcore uncencored sex with Ashley Williams while brutally murdering Keith David with a knife. Smily [:)] while saying in large bold white letters "expect dis ***"

    The Bag:

Bioware are known, by those that know them, for their stories, characters, depth, etc but the promo material for DA chooses to highlight none of that.  It's like they are trying to entice the audience that wouldn't normally go near a Bioware game.

Maybe there trying to bring in a wider audience, given the success of games like Gears of War and Saints Row 2 it wouldnt be a bad idea profit wise but it sorta gives a large butt *** to the fans. I dont see why though becuase they've received a high amount of success by doing what they've always done best, it doesnt seem a wise idea to suddenly want a change in direction, but what do I know.

This is as far from the mark as you can get. They are doing is specifically for the hardcore fans. The fans of Baldur's Gate to be specific. Bioware made Baldur's Gate with just as much violence if not more and the romance options were a bit more extreme descriptively although not visually. DAO adds the visual picture where there was only text before but they also toned it down a bit. A G o o d [Good] balance I'd say.

Just to be clear you are talking to me here, I'm not going to go through the trouble of replying just to have you say your not talking to me again am I??

Any ways, Baldurs Gate may have been on par with Violence and sex (I dont know I havent played Baldurs Gate in a long while) but that wasnt what they were using to promote the game, they werent highlighting that as the selling point, the story was.

Yes I was talking to you now and while they weren't using these things as a selling focus back then the focus of DAO is all about going back to their roots. The point of the trailers is to show that while it is a new game they aren't taming the details....not much at least. And yes Baldur's Gate I & II were games just as G o o d [Good] as KOTOR and Mass Effect with all the highly criticized details although the technology wasn't there to show them visually. Now there is.

The hard metal music and the sex and the violence only come off as a surprise to people who haven't played Baldur's Gate and didn't know what BioWare meant when they said DAO was a spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate. I was surprised as well but pleasantly surprised by the new turn and later learned more about Baldur's Gate.

If there going back to the roots then show off the story show off how interesting the world is, how filled it is with life and depth. I'm not saying the sex and gore are a bad think and no way am I saying take it out, I'm saying (and I think alot of us are saying) is dont make it the focus, dont pay it that much attention, put it as the secondary thing, a nice touch up so people can go and play the game and can go cool while there enjoying the main thing with bioware games, the thing thats been mentioned alot, Story, depth ect...

They only made those elements the focus just before E3 a couple of weeks back. Personally I view it as a mature game that isn't afraid of dealing with the more criticized aspects of being mature. Most fans of BioWare and especially the Baldur's Gate fans were asking whether the game would be tamed to please the highly critical media. After the Fox News attack of Mass Effect last year the hardcore fans of BioWare have been watching very intently to see how that would affect their future games. For me it was a relief to see they won't back down. This is specifically to please the hardore fans and the message of going over the top here is a reassurance that the game's experience wasn't cheapened by those things. With EA behind them they can do anything and that means better games that aren't so bound by the red tape that some would wrap around out necks.

I usually buy games based on what their content is about.  all the  hype aside my game interests lie in swords and sorcery.  lol. and I know from past experience Bioware makes killer rpg games.  I can see all of your points of view, and some G o o d [Good] points have been made. I learned a long time ago  you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Darth> if you believe the game is going to be as amazing as you stated it will be,  then buy it,  and after playing it write a review.  But be prepared for the people who will hate it, because there will always be those people. Try and relax man,  because right now all any of us are doing  is speculating. I personally was not as impressed with the trailer as I was with the game demonstration. not that the graphics were this or that blah blah, but I knew the content IE swords and sorcery rpg will be something I dig, everything else is just eye candy.

Can someone please give me some information on this.  I saw the trailer and it looks amazing.  I have never played baldurs  gate, but do like RPG games where I have control of the fighting.  I mean by this is that I can hack and slash and kill stuff etc.. (a bit like in Fable). This game looks like you must set the task/attck, and then watch to see the outcomes played out in front of you.  Is my understanding correct here on this?

The thing that ruined the trailer the most was the Heavy Metal music over the top of it, I mean you just dont, not if your wanting to make a serious rpg, if your doing serious rpg set in the middle ages of sword and soccery you have operatic music on the trailer, some think deep and understanding to go with the mood, but Heavy Metal, no that just takes all the seriousness out of it.

I completely agree with you concerning the DAO trailer, the heavy music did nothing to enhance the trailer. It made it seem like they were trying to appeal to people in their late teens.  I like some heavy music,   but it should be used in the proper context.  a fantasy world type game based on the middle ages, is not the proper place for it imho.Wink [;)]

I fail to see what any of the fuss is about ...

We happily played GTA IV with its violence and sex ... but then we expect that from GTA ...

Is the game mature for including these themes ... no, it's actually distinctly immature, what is worrying is that to appeal to the 12-16 year old gamers, games companies are making games rated 18 ... >.>Huh? [:^)]

I personally think there's nothing wrong with an 'immature' approach to games like this. It's the whole pretending it's mature thing that is slightly grating. There is a mature and clever way of doing sex in movies and novels, but I haven't come across a game that does it particularly well yet.

I agree with you D.S. Although, thinking about it we are just overdosed in this type of thing by the media of all types. sex sells.  just look at the commercials and the innuendos they send out.  the list goes on. music videos, shampoo, deodorant, soft soap. ect. but I agree sometimes movies pull this sort of thing off well" sometimes". but other times you are like oh well now we come to the T&A section of the movie. let's face it Baywatch was nothing but T&A. they talked a little bit and then ran around in skimpy bathing suits in slow motion. ha ha. no form of the media is above doing this sort of thing. and apparently it is aimed at all people of all ages. except for maybe those people in dead Pe**er valley. LMAO!

Sex sells but you are deluding yourselves on the matter of who buys. Why does the porn industry thrive if only kiddies and teens watch it and obviously can't buy it...for the most part. Because you are unwilling to face the truth. Teens can only watch and they may be eager to do that but they don't sustain the industry. It's the adults that buy porn and make it worth the time of the people who made it....and it brings enormous profits.

Same with this game. It has been rated 18+ in europe and it won't sell millions of copies(which I'm sure it will) to teens. Adults crave these things just as much if not a lot more than teens do and your mentality is driven by the same thought pattern of the people saying "games are for kids". Again EVERYONE said that until videogames started to be sold and everyone realized how wrong they were. Before that people used to believe the earth was flat.

People, especially those who call themselves "mature" are unable to face the truth of a great many things.

My point is  sex sells and the world is buying. (but for me personally that is not what makes me interested in DAO.) it's the other content of what it's based on  Swords and sorcery. ect.  man you just have to get where you don't care if people agree with you or not, being right is not important.  what is important is whether or not you enjoy the game.
I don't have any issues with you stating earlier it will be the greatest game ever, in your opinion it might very well  be, but I can't say because I haven't played it yet, I am very much looking forward to checking it out because bioware makes really G o o d [Good] rpg games, or at least in my opinion they do. and being that I am the only one buying games for me,  and being that I am only playing them for MY enjoyment, that is all that matters.   Darth> I don't see why you give less than a squat what anyone says. and I don't mean this disrespecfully.

I dont get what your point is here Trethon, What alot of us are saying is that Sex, Voilence and Heavy Metal rock doesnt make a game mature.

Yes Adults buy porn mags, most of them are people who dont get any or perverts, it doesnt mean there mature, theres a heavy difference from being an Adult and being Mature. Theres a guy who lives near my house who's in has early 30's yet he hangs around with 15 and 16 year olds getting drunk and smaching things up, I wouldnt call him mature, he's n Adult true enough but not mature.

Teens can only watch??, no teens dont just watch, they do,hence the under-age sex problem, and beleive it or not but teens buy more porn mags then adults, you go into a teens bedroom and look and 7/10 your going to find a porn mag some were, now in a mature adults house, theres probably 5/10 chance of finding one, about 3/10 if there a couple.

I was talking about the porn industry when I said teens can only watch and can't sustain it with profits. They certainly don't do anything there.

No the point was that sex and violence makes this a teenage game. As for porn I hate to break it to you but a lot of married couples watch it and that doesn't make them perverts nor does it mean that they aren't getting any. It's just another way to...keep it interesting....after many years of marriage. Though few will ever admit to it.

Also where do you get this picture of a drunk 30 year old dude hanging around teens? I'm certain there are a few of those but that is definitely NOT the average gamer. More than 60% of the gamers are over 30 years and that's who has to want to buy in order to make a game truly successful. Multi-million sellers have to be successful among them.

Let's not go into the philosophy of being mature shall we. It's one of those things that has a different definition for every person on the planet. Culture and teachings and personal ideas and assumptions come into play and it's an argument without end. The standard system most widely accepted treats anyone over 18 as being mature.

The definition of mature is exactly what most of us here seem to be loosely agreeing on, except you. Over 18 is not widely considered 'mature'. It's considered adult, there is a difference.

You are aware you are trolling and off topic right?

Do I really have to pull the dictionary? Seriously? This is the most accepted term(referring to the growth or the body):

fully developed in body or mind, as a person: a mature woman.

Once again. The most widely accepted age for being considered mature is 18 because that is when the body is fully developed.

About the game, it looks G o o d [Good], I'll probably get it, but I have to admit, the dragon fight, looks really boring and not particularly well done, but ever since I finished Oblivion I'm looking for a G o o d [Good] RPG and I think this will be a pretty descent one.

So you think the game is boring and not well done but you'll buy it because you're looking for a G o o d [Good] RPG?? You know that doesn't make ANY sense at all by any standrads. You also probably mean "reasoning" instead of "resonate".

BioWare has a great reputation for delivering great RPGs in terms of functionality. They are known for great content as well but that is largely based on opinion. Long and very developed stories with a lot of details, backstory and options. That is what Dragon Age will most likely deliver. If you think that is boring and not well done why are you looking at this game? Rent Mass Effect or KOTOR(original xbox)  if you want an idea of what to expect from BioWare in terms of how developed their stories and options are.

I didn't say the game looked boring and not well made, I was talking about a little part of the game, the dragon fight I saw in a video. A game can be fun even if it has some flaws, Fable II is a G o o d [Good] example of that.

I'm done, you won't get me to argue with you.

We'll if by boring you mean long then yes expect a lot more of that towards the end of the game. As for not being well done that's your opinion(I thought it was great) and the way you saw it it's just about finished work and that's how combat will function so if you aren't pleased with it you should probably rent first or stay away from the game. If you played KOTOR on the original xbox then you should have an idea of how the combat will be but expect DAO to be harder and the boss fights to take significantly longer. The conversation with the woman before the fight is much how all NPC interactions will be. Plenty of talking and plenty of options for you to respond with that you have to be willing to read. This is  not like Fable II in any way.
