Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
I had KOTOR, I really loved it, that's why I'm interested in DAO.
I just didn't like the dragon fight video at all, but we won't only fight dragons, so it should be ok.
One more time, you seem to not understand really well what you read.
I didn't compare or say that DAO will be like Fable II, I said that a game could have some flaws and still be fun. Fable II is a perfect example of a flawed game, but it's still fun.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
There was absolutely no need for things in common besides having flaws.
I could've said, KOTOR, KOTOR II, GTA IV, GTA SA, Shenmue, Shenmue II, Oblivion, Morrowind, Spider Man III, NHL 2k9, Assassin's Creed...
Any fun game would do, because, I never ever played a perfect game.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
I was talking about the porn industry when I said teens can only watch and can't sustain it with profits. They certainly don't do anything there.
DarthTrethon:No the point was that sex and violence makes this a teenage game. As for porn I hate to break it to you but a lot of married couples watch it and that doesn't make them perverts nor does it mean that they aren't getting any. It's just another way to...keep it interesting....after many years of marriage. Though few will ever admit to it.
Some married couples do but not enought to profit the industry, the point was that teenagers read and buy more porn then adults.
DarthTrethon:Also where do you get this picture of a drunk 30 year old dude hanging around teens? I'm certain there are a few of those but that is definitely NOT the average gamer. More than 60% of the gamers are over 30 years and that's who has to want to buy in order to make a game truly successful. Multi-million sellers have to be successful among them.
??? wtf are you talking about??? I'm sorry I have to use that sentence but I'm truly not understanding you here, you just keep twisting words, I wasnt talking about gaming, I was taking about being over 18 doesnt make you automatically mature, I didnt pull this picture of a 30 year old dude hanging out with teens out of thin air, I acutally know this guy, he's a guy who lives two streets away from me, I was using him as an example of an immature adult.
DarthTrethon:Let's not go into the philosophy of being mature shall we. It's one of those things that has a different definition for every person on the planet. Culture and teachings and personal ideas and assumptions come into play and it's an argument without end. The standard system most widely accepted treats anyone over 18 as being mature.
No it isnt, the standard is to treat people who act mature as being mature, I'm over the age of 18 and I certainly dont act mature, neither does John Doe mentioned above.
DarthTrethon: FYI English is my 3rd language and I only got high grades on my college papers in the US. Believe it or not it's up to you. Just saying I don't particularly care what you think.
I you dont care what people think then why are you putting up such an arguement becuase certain people think that the trailer was imature.
DarthTrethon:People, especially those who call themselves "mature" are unable to face the truth of a great many things.
Okay lets just reqoute this becuase I dont think you saw the irony here,
"People, especially those who call themselves "mature" are unable to face the truth of a great many things."
You say this yet your unable to face the truth of the great many thinks people are telling you.
DarthTrethon: deliriousstudios:You obviously do or you would never have responded to me. The definition of mature is exactly what most of us here seem to be loosely agreeing on, except you. Over 18 is not widely considered 'mature'. It's considered adult, there is a difference.
You are aware you are trolling and off topic right?
I fail to see the trolling part, some one disagreeing with you doesnt mean he's trolling
DarthTrethon: Once again. The most widely accepted age for being considered mature is 18 because that is when the body is fully developed.
Not really, the body is usually usually full matures at age 21, though they are some exceptions, but 21 is generally the age you stop growing but it doesnt mean that your mature, Maturity is both a mental state as well as a physical state, just becuase you've matured physically doesnt mean you've matured mentally.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
I don't mind the "romance" either, but do they really need to put sex in the game? Will the sex bring something to the game, the story? I doubt it.
KOTOR had a great romance, but had no sex and it was fine that way, I don't think sex would have brought more to the story.

From the perspective of the characters I think you really bond with someone your life depends on and whose life depends on you in nearly impossible against the odds fights. Then when going into what looks like a suicide fight against a huge hoard of enemies led by an extremely powerful dragon that can almost be seen as an army by itself you'd want want to make the most of what may very well be the last hours of your life. So I say YES they do need to have sex in the game. EDIT: To Snowolf: what does it matter if you know the 30 year old whatever he still doesn't represent anything. Also it is not up to anyone to define what it is to act "mature" and considering that we all have different cultures and backgrounds and teachings I think it's best to leave the topic of how people "should" act alone. In the eyes of most legal systems you are mature at 18. Beyond that it's like arguing religion there is nothing that is set in stone. Also I am very able to see what THINGS(NOT "thinks") people are saying but that does not mean I should listen. If someone tells you 1 + 1 = 7 should you listen? If you don't does that mean you are unable to understand what they said? Now what I was explaining is very true. Mature people keep the porn industry going and if you don't like them being called mature take it up in a court of law against your particular government. Teens certainly do NOT and this applies to the M and 18+ rated games as well so at any rate saying this games is aimed at teens is 100% wrong. The game will be particularly forbiden to teens.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
I see your point, but do they need to show it? (even if it's tastefully done)
I don't think they have to show anything, I don't mind it, but I don't see any need for it.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
Pavman:Can someone please give me some information on this. I saw the trailer and it looks amazing. I have never played baldurs gate, but do like RPG games where I have control of the fighting. I mean by this is that I can hack and slash and kill stuff etc.. (a bit like in Fable). This game looks like you must set the task/attck, and then watch to see the outcomes played out in front of you. Is my understanding correct here on this?
The discussion on this game is pretty interesting. Would it be possible for someone to please answer my question, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks.

<Facepalm> thats it I'm done, I wash my hands of you, ive treid reasoning, ive arguing, ive tryed to comprehend what your saying but you just dont listen, you just twist and twist and twist, ignoring every think any one says, I'm done, talking to you is like talking to a brick wall or trying to argue with a child, also your maturity shows when you make fun of peoples spelling and names.
Christ I hope your not like this in real life or when talking to actual people, not over the internet, if not I can imagine you dont have many freinds if any at all, your comments on sex also show alot about your relationships, I have doubts that you have ever been in one, if what I'm saying is true then you have my pity.
not listening to what people tell you doesnt show a great deal of maturity, my advice grow up and learn from others.

Re: Dragon Age Originates October 20
Now I saw some light again at the end of the tunnel for making the game at least for the PC. According to my long trusted source on gaming, PC Games who played a preview of the game, the controls work like in Baldurs Gate. I am glad to hear that you can pause the game anytime and give commands for all characters. Then you can lean back and watch the outcome or pause again and change your tactic. ![Classic [:classic:]](/emoticons/classic.gif) Also nice to hear about spell combination in combat where you can inflame oil for example to increase the damage. After all the overall tone of the game was brutal and bloody again, but as long as the gameplay works out, I don't care about sex and violence. Gameplay is more important to me than story. ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif) I think we still have to wait until the end of 2009 to see what it really can offer though. The missing of cut scenes in the preview sounds strange, but one could think they left them out on purpose for the demonstration. ![Tongue Tied [:S]](/emoticons/emotion-7.gif)

I just hope the game is long, whichever Origin you select. After I downloaded the throne of Bhaal expansion For BG 2 shadows of amn, it really felt complete. I loved the watchers keep. I saved two game slots just so I could fight Demigorgon, that is my finest gaming moment defeating him. after that I loaded my other game and did as the Avatar requested. I was a Ranger and that was more in line with my alignment. but I had to defeat him. I just hope it is a very long game. The dialogue in that game was cool as well. heck half my party liked me the other half were always threatening to leave. lol I had a mixture of ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) aligned character and ![E v i l [Evil]](/emoticons/e_v_i_l.gif) as my npc people. made for an interesting edgy game. I hope you can do something similiar in DAO.

ShadowRage41: Fata1moose: a step back in RPG gameplay.
That's a bold statement. and one I personally disagree with bioware makes really ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) rpg's. but you are entitled to your opinion,
Bioware does a job yes I liked Mass Effect and KOTOR but this is quite a bit different from those games, I'm talking combat controls I watched the dragon fight and I just don't like how it is mapped and how you control it. ofcoarse that is just my opinion.

Oh, ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) God. They've hired King of High-Camp Panto Tim Curry to play one of the bad guys. Way to clarify the 'serious epic' message after the manson rumpy-pumpy violence trailer, guys
Yes, DarthTrethon, I am aware I am an unworthy wretch who should be hounded and driven out of decent society for not recognising the immediate greatness in this decision, what with Dragon Age already being the best game in all of time and space, past present and future.
No, I don't care very much.
EDIT - I am also aware that could be seen as a cheap shot and wouldn't normally make comments about members like that. But I figure he's inevitably going to go off on one and call me an idiot regardless, so it'll save time and forum space if I just get my reply in now rather than later.

The man has played some iconic villains in his time, Pennywise and the freakin' Lord of Darkness himself for instance. Name me one other guy who managed to get away with a genuinely believable performance playing as The D apart from Al Pacino?
My point is, Tim Curry is pure concentrated awesome.
For some reason Birdo clearly has the voice of a Japanese man in this trailer. It's like... eating a cake. You expect the cake to be delicious, but when you bite into it, it sounds like a Japanese man. See what I'm trying to say here?

I think that you really need to see this guy at work in the context of DAO to really understand what an amazing contribution he brings to this game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTAJn4H3FBAThere is no better actor to voice a villain than this guy.

Oh, I love Tim Curry. Really do - I think he's great. But ask people to name his iconic roll and they immediately go for Frank N Furter, and his last video game jaunt was as the screamingly camp General whatsitov in the last Red Alert game.
But 'Iconic Villain' is hardly what he's associated with by most - have a quick peruse of his IMDB entry and you'll notice hi's concentrated more on, well, the high-camp panto stuff this century. And most of the decade prior to that. The man capitalises on this and knows he's seen broadly under the same heading as the Shatners and Hasslehoffs of this world, and he does a great job of it ![Smily [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif) But after the backlash from the last round of PR, it's hardly a clear message to reassure everyone of the game's serious and mature themes, is it ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif) Read the thread back a few pages if you missed the discussion.
I have no problem with his ability to act - his performance as Long John Silver in The Muppets Treasure Island was a tour de force in my humble opinion - nor with any performance he may give. I just rather think the game's PR department might be on mescaline...
EDIT - oh , and the D ![E v i l [Evil]](/emoticons/e_v_i_l.gif) thing? Ray Wise.

Personally I hope he hams it up. You can't get much more serous and mature than games like Vampire Bloodlines which featured a hot Japanese teenage demon hunter in China town, or Fallout with it's references to Magic the Gathering. There's always room for humor even in the darkest of worlds.
As for the PR department, lord knows what they think they're doing. The trailer for example, almost feels like false advertising, because those hardcore kiddie Halo fanatics who play Dragon Age will be expecting an action packed orgy of violence and sex, and that'll actually be getting a slow paced story driven strategic experience - or at least, I hope so.
Regarding the sex - it'll probably be a 10-30 second clip similar to Mass Effect. And I'd like to remind everyone that relationships were arguably, the best part of Baldur's Gate 2. I'm a little shaky after they threw sex scenes into the trailer, but Bioware's résumé speaks for itself. My faith will protect me!
For some reason Birdo clearly has the voice of a Japanese man in this trailer. It's like... eating a cake. You expect the cake to be delicious, but when you bite into it, it sounds like a Japanese man. See what I'm trying to say here?
