Music you dislike and why.
We all love some sort of music. But what about the music you hate?
I tend to dislike most, but not all, powerpop, poprock, and emo bands. I dislike paramore, jonas brother, metro station, fall out boy and green day(some songs can be respectively pulled out of the list though). I guess what killed Paramore for me was that they did a song or two for the Twilight Music Album, that killed a lot of respect for them and the genre itself.
What I dislike about these bands: I severly dislike their vocals, its too high pitched for me. Often, with unrecongizable lyrics. Their guitars? Whats the point in having an electric guitar if you're not planning to pull off some sick rifts or something of the sort? The drum kicks lack any real knowledgeable effects, it sounds like someone hit their hand against a wall lightly.
Overall, I guess why I loathe those genres of music, is because how childish it seems? I know I'm not driving a car to my workplace, I'm not a full adult. But childish things turn me away, Twilight for example.
I want to hear what you have to say.

Re: Music you dislike and why.
I don't think there's any genre of music that I can say has absolutely no redeeming qualities, but I'm going to say that I really can't stomach 99% of most contemporary "rock." The genre used to be, ya know, stuff your parents were afraid of. It was innovative, and aggressive, but it's been castrated.
For example: Nickelback. Their lyrics are insipid, their arrangement is the epitome of bland, and yet they are incredibly popular locally. I cannot comprehend it. They're such garbage. And that guy's voice makes me want to claw out my own eyes.
Maybe it's like the OP said-- maybe it's a turn off because it seems childish. Maybe I hate it beacuse I associate it with the d-bag-ery and imaturity of frat boys.
Paramore really isn't my bag, but as an aside, there were some songs on the Twilight album that were decent and not what you'd expect from such a teeny-bopping, mainstream movie. The Iron & Wine song was really , and I did like the Perry Farrell and Muse contributions. Robert Pattinson sounds like Tracy Chapman, though.
Yes, I thought so. Just watch your step or I'm totally telling.

Re: Music you dislike and why.
Any music that consists of unappealing use of timbre, tonality, pitch and rhythm.
To be a little more specific I dislike bands who use a strong North American/Canadian accents and vocal inflections. I'm thinking, Nickleback and Foo Fighters there - I also hate British and Australian singers who emulate this. I don't like most hip hop since I can't relate to anything they're talking about and the music pretty much ticks the box of every category I listed above.
There's nothing inherent about the electric guitar that requires you to do anything specific with it. All that matters is whether the end result sounds ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) . So disliking a musical style because they don't do what you think is a perquisite for that instrument is a bit odd to me.
There is an important difference to me, between music that I like and music that I don't want to listen to. When I'm around the house or in the car or on a plane, I don't want to listen to practically any classical music, yet I still like it and enjoy studying it. One other thing that colours my dislike for certain music is how some people listen to it - booming out of the car stereo - thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud.
I can listen, enjoy and appreciate most kinds of music, but it's very different from sitting down, relaxing and listening to some stuff that I'd go out and buy.
If I can't relate to the music or the lyrics, then I'll probably dislike it.
The only thing worse than beating a dead horse is betting on one.

Re: Music you dislike and why.
I can honestly say that in every genre of music I have ever listened to there is something that I like, and something that I dislike ... with perhaps the exception being the UK "Garage" scene, but then I tended to hate the people and not listen to the music (Craig David and So Solid Crew being the predominent ones I guess)

Re: Music you dislike and why.
I'm a little like Del on this subject, I dont like music that I carnt relate to, although I do make exceptions when It come to clubland, Although I carnt relate to anythink there saying I do like the sounds there making lol.
Emo: I hate emo music, along with alot of emo's. You see I carnt relate to any of it, its often some guy there talking about how bad life is to him and how he doesnt deserve to have any friends or to be alive, and to be honest when I watch to that *** on mtv I just want to stick my hand through the screen and give him a slap raand the head and tell him to shut up moaning. You see I also find it hard relating to alot of emo's I find it hard to see the problem, most of whom ive met tend to come from middle to upper class backgrounds with very understanding and rich parents who often give them what they want, they have plenty of friends just like them and most other people would accept them ive they'd stop groaning on and on. most of them seem to do it for the attention too, as every emo girl ive met has been raped and had a freind die (who conicidentally they carnt remeber the name of) and its all there fualt. And the fact that they dress the way they dress becuase they dont care what others think of them seems bullshit when you see how much the stuff costs, if you didnt care you'd shop at primark, or do what I do and wear the same clothes for days becuase you carnt be arsed finding new clothes out.
Wow that above was a large rant lol
Sreamo: I carnt do with screamo music full stop, I think theres been one screamo song Ive liked and that was Rock&roll queen by subways and that was only becuase it was on rock&rolla lol, must of it is just ARGH,WARGH and they do this voice which I dont know what its about, maybe there trying to sound like the d or some think, its just I dont know how you could listen to it, the lyrics dont make much sense its mostly angry music and ironically the people who sing these songs, are high grade students who talk right shy and arnt really angry people lol.
Modern music: need I say no more, most modern music is pure ***, I havent heard a song in a long time, it all seems the same these days. I mean Oasis even tried to make a come back and that did do brilliantly, I dont think one song made it to the top, I feel old when I have to say, tut kids these days.
"IrishMorn" If Adon and Sagat step in....ah, what the hell, I'll get drunk and join in on that one.

Re: Music you dislike and why.
High whining sounds. Makes my ears bleed and my teeth break.
Hiphop, Pop and Rap styles similar to Li'l Wayne and Soulja Boy. I want to pummel something. AND ALL THOSE STUPID F**KING REMAKES!!! Stop, you're killing it! Almost all the songs that are covered by artists in the hiphop, pop and rap styles just murder the originals or anything that sounds better.

Re: Music you dislike and why.
Screamo, emo, and most hip hop and rap.
A little random quote, makes you think...
"What came first, the music or the misery? People worry about kids playing with guns, or watching violent videos, that some sort of culture of violence will take them over. Nobody worries about kids listening to thousands, literally thousands of songs about heartbreak, rejection, pain, misery and loss. Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?"

Re: Music you dislike and why.
As a couch musicologist, using the term 'emo' to describe music is quite horrific sight.
Those of you who don't like 'emo music'. What bands are we talking about here? Nirvana? Green Day? Weezer? Dashboard Confessional? Joy Division? (I'm stealing from the wikipedia article here). If so, you do realise these are all completely different genres.
I mean, I've heard people call Panic at the Disco emo music. That totally boggles my mind. Fever was a bit like what Fallout Boy were doing sure, but most of it wasn't whiny emotional stuff (which is what emo is short for if you didn't know), if you listen to the lyrics, it's all actually very clever. But that music style didn't even last. Pretty Odd is more like the Beatles and if you think they were this 'emo' nonsense then gawsh...

Re: Music you dislike and why.
Well not really sure what to call it other than emo music but my chemical romance and fall out boy makes me rage.
But i dont really know if there is any genre i hate. Hell i even like some rap (beastie boys) but that is probably the genre i hate the most. Especially 50 cent comes to mind.
Also does anyone care to explain to me what you mean with screamo ? Just all bands with a singer that screams/growls ? Because that is how i usually see it being used even though the wiki says something completely diffrent. I'm not that ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) with genres anyway i just have 2 :
Music i like to listen to
Music i dont like

Pop Punk? I quite like some Fallout Boy songs, but I can't listen to their stuff for very long. My Chemical Romance I have absolutely nothing to do with.
I get the feeling it's those two bands, and the one or two who copy them that everybody hates. Right? And it's cool to hate the emo culture (which has nothing to do with it's grass roots), right?
And yes, 'screamo' is not a genre either to me. It's a deragotary description of certain bands.

Re: Music you dislike and why.
I tend to dislike anything that's too loud for me. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against rock bands. One of my favourite bands is Theory of a Deadman and they're no Hannah Montana. But I don't like music thanks consists of band guitar playing and a man screaming the same things over and over and over...
I also dislike anything too... preppy. If it sounds like it would fit perfectly into a kids' film I want nothing to do with it.
And as for emo music... well, I did go through a phase of absolutely loving Evanescence but that was mainly because I liked the sound of their music. One day I made the fatal mistake of actually paying attention to the lyrics and that sorta killed it dead for me.

I dont concider Green Day as emo music, I'm not sure if it falls into a catagory maybe its Indy, like I concider Offspring to be Indy, and Red Hot Chillie Peppers, mainly becuse I dont know were else to fit them, they dont sound to hard to be rock in most there songs. I concider muscians like Evanecence(or how the hell you spell it) to be Emo, although I did like one song (Wake me up) and thats it, mainly becuase it was all that screamy and the emotional part of it went we'll with a few parts in Dared , I concider Marylin Manson to be Emo, although that might be the casual music of which ever planet or demention he's from that he's singing, again theres only one song of his that I can listen to in a public place, in which I just pretend Softcell are singing it instead of him lol. I did hear somethink from a class mate who listens to Uprising, (any one here from yorkshire or living in yorkshire may know what dreaded tripe I'm talking about) and rap music told me Oasis was emo music... I backhanded him across the face for such remark.

How the hell did you ever manage to put Manson in the emo genre ? His last many albums have been horrible but emo he isnt (if you talk about his... "style") and neither is his music. usually it's just some glam rock/hard rock with him looking stupid/ugly in the videos for shock effect.

Re: Music you dislike and why.
But that's the thing Sovvolf. You can't just say 'I consider this emo music, this emo music, that emo music, but that isn't emo music'. Why? Because not everybody will agree with you. The very fact that you were slightly offended by someone calling Oasis emo music (when I'm sure it sometimes is) proves that. Calling music 'emo' is always intended on being derogatory for the music. It's not a particularly useful description.
Listen to 'Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green day and tell me that's not 'whiny' and 'emotional'.
And you also mentioned another supposed type of music I hate being used so liberally. Indie music. The term indie music originally described bands that were on independent labels, in the underground music scene. Offspring and Chilli Peppers are about as far from that as you can possibly get. I'd say Offspring are definitely Pop/Punk Rock. Chilli Peppers are Alt Rock, with a lot of funk and a bit of rap influences.
Indie rock has kind of evolved into something else nowadays though and it's really a genre in of itself. There are many kinds of indie rock though, like post punk revival (Think - Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs).
And like Emo, indie is closely related to a culture that surrounds it.
I suppose my point is that saying 'I hate indie music' or 'I hate emo music' is a bit silly, when they're not even proper genres
@Maggot. I don't listen to Manson, but I just took a look at some random lyrics of his:
it's not like i made my self a list
of new and different ways to murder your heart
I'm just painting that's still wet,
if you touch me I'll be smeared
you'll be stained
stained for the rest of your life
So turn around ,walk away
before you confuse the way we abuse each other
you're not afraid of getting hurt
and I'm not afraid of how much i hurt you
I'm well aware I'm a Danger to my self
are you aware I'm a danger to others ?
there's a crack in my soul
You thought it was a smile
whatever doesn't kill you...
it's gonna leave a scar
whatever doesn't kill you...
it's gonna leave a scar
leave a scar
leave a scar
whatever doesn't kill you ,it's gonna leave a scar
And you hate Fallout Boy for being emo? What they sing about is tame compared to the above depressive emo nonsense.
The only thing worse than beating a dead horse is betting on one.

Re: Music you dislike and why.
The term nig ger has been completed fecked up in my opinion. First it's bad to say nig ger, since it's derogatory slang for 'negroid', then it's alright for Black people to say nig ger, then it's alright for white people to say nig ger, but only if they're pretending to be black. Then it's bad for all, including black people to say nig ger, now apparently it's a huge free for all!

I don't listen to Manson, but I just took a look at some random lyrics of his: it's not like i made my self a list of new and different ways to murder your heart I'm just painting that's still wet, if you touch me I'll be smeared you'll be stained stained for the rest of your life So turn around ,walk away before you confuse the way we abuse each other you're not afraid of getting hurt and I'm not afraid of how much i hurt you I'm well aware I'm a Danger to my self are you aware I'm a danger to others ? there's a crack in my soul You thought it was a smile whatever doesn't kill you... it's gonna leave a scar whatever doesn't kill you... it's gonna leave a scar leave a scar leave a scar whatever doesn't kill you ,it's gonna leave a scar
And you hate Fallout Boy for being emo? What they sing about is tame compared to the above depressive emo nonsense. ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif)
Didnt get past the second paragraph before skipping the lot... which call a question does any one here concider Marlyn Manson human??
skormsweasel: maggot:Yeah i can agree with that, now i cant even say black people anymore without offending anyone but... Black people are black. ![Surprise [:O]](/emoticons/emotion-3.gif) But saying you dont like some genre of music because you dont like black people ? :/ (I like how when you hit reply to a post you can see all the censored words.)
You cant sing baa baa black sheep anymore, or say black board. People are too easily offended.
How did it go from music to PC compliants??
"IrishMorn" If Adon and Sagat step in....ah, what the hell, I'll get drunk and join in on that one.
