I finished the game, Married and Moved in to the Castle, had 3 kids, every time I went home, the wife is in the bedroom. I then later on obtained a quest called "The Rescue" completed the quest and now when I return home the Golden trail "leading to my wife" runs into a wall in a corner and I can not locate her now. She is no-where inside the castle nor the gardens area.

Same here!   I gave up looking in Fairfax, so I went to look elsewhere, but the glowing path always tells me to go back to Fairfax! It doesn't matter if you set your marker on the quest, or on the family member. Very frustrating! My dog is dead so all I can do now is rescue slaves, and do side jobs. Lame!

i have the glitch too
i had the kid in the bowerstone market and now that there is no mother i have this annoying kid following me around.
all that kid says is "wait for me dad!" every 10 seconds

I restarted the game and completed the quest but this time I lived in the cemetery mansion and no glitch occured yet. Now Im going to start again and do the quest while living in the castle again to see if it happens again or not.

My only problem is............My child is actually home and safe.  But the quest pops up and the glowing trail doesn't appear.  So befoe I knew this XD I went to every cave to try and find her.

 

But yeah.      

I have messed up my game save thanks to this buggy quest.

Upon saving my kid from the Hobbe Cave she would not follow up the ladder to Rookridge,
the quest still told me to escape the cave!
I have since killed the wife, the quest has vanished and I have saved the game.

Still though I am unable to fast travel at all, I get the "your child will be killed by the horrible hobbes" message, cancel or reload old save (old save now being more recent than wifes death)

Well, its pretty much unplayable unless I want to run everywhere now.
Such a shame as I had 5 Gargoyles to go and some other Achievements within my grasp.
I hope it can be fixed by a patch but not holding my breath.

Oh well, Gears of War 2 is very soon.

I finally got my child to safety. The trick is NOT to tell her to follow you. She will follow on her own. Once I got topside her mother was there to pick her up. Finally got threw it!!!

I have 2 wives with a kid each, 1 in Bowerstone and 1 on Oakvale. I took this quest from the wife in Oakvale and managed to rescue the kid from the cage and make it up the ladder and out but the kid then runs to a corner and waits there. Doesnt do anything.. just zombified.
The other wife (not the child's mother) has also turned up outside the ladder but has no quest info on her.

TBH i loaded a previous save and did not take the quest. The child died but at least I dont have the quest anymore

My wife is missing too. When I try to set The Rescue, it fast-travels me to the Bowerstone Market, where our marital home is, but there are no "breadcrumbs" and she is nowhere to be seen.

This glitch is driving me insane.  Yeah, I'm going to try to get the kid to follow one last time... then if it doesn't work, I'm off to kill the spouse (one of several, so, whatever.)

My only complaint is, I had a nice theme going w/ wives -- Gemma, Julia, Jodie, Jade, etc.

Kinda sucky you get _one_ save, so I'm possibly stuck in a can't-win situation.  I guess this is probably addressed in the glitch thread, but I didn't feel like wading through 37 pages.

 

Here's a one!  I said "Hang it all" with my kid who won't leave the shed after the Rescue.  So, I left the little crap and ran towards the boarder.  It said that I would loose my progress and have to reload. Yada yada, we've all heard that. Well, I killed a few bandits, then FOOOMP!  My character fell through the ground and is somehow stuck in the atmosphere... no dirt, buildings, no people.  I see moon, rain and atmospheric fog.  I thought "Am I dead?"  Nope.  I'm still collecting cash whilst in this perpetual vaulting position.

Yea i have the same problem i get my son to the ladder, i clime up but my dumb son wont. and i cant go back in the cave couse it restarts the quest on me, and i cant travel any were.... If you know wats wrong please email me at mcscalise@hotmail.com

I also encountered this error unfortunately. I could not find my spouse in order to start the rescue quest, when I would enter the town square where we lived, the glowing trail would simply disappear and if I left, it would guide me back again. I also encountered a previous glitch after the spire where my spouse was gone, and my child was unresponsive and after some searching online learned this sometimes happens and continued to play out the game. When I got to Bloodstone later in the game, I found him wandering in the tavern there! Without a ring over his head signifying we were together, and yet he acted completely normal, like we were still married. So I had him follow me back to our home in Bowerstone where something very odd happened. There were two of him! One with a ring and one without. So I dismissed them both and completely left. When I came back my husband was there, the one with the ring actually above him, and my kid was back to normal, the duplicate was gone and I was thankful that the glitch worked itself out somehow.

Later I started the rescue and both my spouse and the kid are gone. I did everything. I searched every town, and I went through the Hobbes cave nothing. So I persisted on with the game visiting my home every once in a while. I went back to Bloodstone recently and suddenly and for no apparent reason that creepy double without a ring was there. I tried the same thing again going back to my house to see if that would fix things but no such luck and still unable to complete the quest, and I'm stuck with that message at the top of my screen. I almost feel like killing the double just to get rid of it all.

I took the quest and fast traveled to the cave, then it said I lost my kid to the hobbs so I figure kill them all!!! well i get to the end of the cave and find my son in the cage, but no key. I look every where even used the fable 2 guide, killed every last hobb and still no key and now my son is stuck in a cage.

I found my daughter, got her out of the cave and up the ladder. Then she just stood there a wouldnt move and whenever i ran away i got a trail going back to her. then whenever i try to travel it says i cant leave her which is pissing me off so much. i even found my wife lol

So this has happened to me as well with spouses going missing. I have had 3 and at various stages of the game they have just dissapeared and I have been unable to find them even when I have set my quest to visit my family, their status has always been happy even though I cant find them and then eventually they decide to divorce me for no reason! The children are always there but I have had one kid go missing. My third spouse was living in Fairfax castle with me and one child, she dissapeared and then I get "The rescue quest" which I cant even start because I cannot find my wife anywhere and the kid is not in the hobbe cave. It is so frustrating! Does anyone know if they are releasing a patch to fix this glitch? Thanks

this happend to me as well, i could not for the life of me find my wife, so i slept for a week and then there she is, but she wont start the quest all she does is the stuff she always does. the golden trail keeps leading me to her but she keeps walking around making sexy comments to me

Many thanks for posting this workaround! I was about to give-up and wait (hope) for a patch until I followed your suggestion.

For some reason it doesn't work to simply tell her to stop following you once you have already issued the "follow me" command.  In this case it is necessary to reload the quest (I did this by trying to re-enter the hobbes cave through the exit door), then go through the quest again - without using the "follow me" command.  Then she follows and exits the cave without any problems.

Also, after completing the quest and being awarded the points, my wife turned into a zombie.  I then zoned to my wife, who was back at my house.  From then on it appears normal again, so far.

This has been the only major glitch I've encountered so far.  I'm glad it at least has a workaround.

I got the mission and went to my house in bowerstone market. No women with ring over her head. Looked in my menu part under family, shes there along with child, all happy. underneath is a letter from her saying come home quick!!! I heared we had to go to hobbe cave, went, child not there. still saying find wife. My wife is a ....whore!(yes i know-low standards, we had a threesome and proposed to wrong girl!)

 so when walking by my house, i see a women, wearing whore clothes...ITS HER, AND WE ARE MARRIED STILL(in the happiness bar)! still no ring over her head. so i guy and buy a ring for her, married again!!! same women, two families. No ring, so i kill her. still the mission there and my dead wife is still on family liset, (cos married twice!) so i cannot get rid of her, still happy. remarrieed in house next door. did not meet, now both wife.

oh yer, earlier ... exclamation mark on her head! i cracked it, Noo that was the blackmail note!

GLITCHED UP and dont get me started on brightwood demon door-silver cape WTF!

The Rescue quest I can't start till I find him and ous son is not in the Hobbe cave I looked.

I gave up on starting this quest, and went on to buy the castle.

was your kid just standing facing the corner all unresponsive and stuff? thats exactly what happened to me. stupid little *** daughter wouldnt follow when i told her to, and her mom was there to pick her up but it still says escape the cave and the quest doesnt end. the wife is just standing there with the zombie child with NO ring over her head, talking about why she MARRIED ME. so i try to just leave, but the golden trail friggin tells me to go back. please if you find out why our children are zombified, tell me.

alright now im really pissed. i decided, screw that stupid kid and wife. i killed the wife and it said the child protection agency took my kids, but the *** was still there!! so i tried leaving through fast travel, but nope. so then i just decided to run away. Big surprise, that didnt work, cuz i fell through the floor right before i was about to leave the region. as someone else said on this page, you just get stuck in a vaulting position. i then just gave up on the whole dam game, and held down the "X" on my controller to turn off the console. LIONHEAD, MICROSOFT, ANYBODY!!! PLEASE MAKE A PATCH TO FIX THIS DAM GLITCH!!! o yea i know i left out the n in damn but i thought it might do this thing ****. well, guess i just gotta wait.

On the kid rescue mission after finishing the game, unfortunetly not having the wife disapear on me but the kid would never leave the cave... I redid the mission three times and on my last try I did two things differently - went back and cleared the hobbes - even to where i first started in the cave, and went back to the exit and gave the kid crap to make sure he wouldn't do it again...  Frustrating but worked.

same thing the dumb kid wont leave the cave, nothing has worked yet but its very srustrating
