What was the best game franchise that totally blew it?
Well it is pretty much what the title says, what do you think is the game franchise that started off completely amazing and then blew it? I'll start it off with Halo: Halo 1 was one of the best games of all time, I still play it, but Halo 2 started the downward slide into Halo 3 and Halo Wars (both of which I regret to say I play, but have crappy stories and only decent multiplayer)

Re: What was the best game franchise that totally blew it?
lol at the Halo remark. The only franchise that really comes to mind is FEAR. The first game was fantastic, then the expansions came in ... then the console ports ... and then FEAR 2. Eeek. RIP Fear.

Resident ![E v i l [Evil]](/emoticons/e_v_i_l.gif) 1-3 ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) survival horror.
Resident ![E v i l [Evil]](/emoticons/e_v_i_l.gif) 4 ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) survival horror but more action. Not really a bad thing because it works.
Resident ![E v i l [Evil]](/emoticons/e_v_i_l.gif) 5. Horrible annoying controls. Not scary anymore and at best average with the action part.

Re: What was the best game franchise that totally blew it?
In my opinion: Command and Conquer Red Alert. Somewhere between commanding squads of attack dolphins and bears, and watching the numerous cutscenes where provocatively dressed women bend over, the series lost the magic it once had. Sonic the Hedgehog. I don't think I need to explain this one, the games speak for themselves. Need for Speed. I'm not sure if it has totally blown it yet, it's sort of been blowing it in smaller segments for its entire existence. Maybe if you add all of them up it has. I'm not sure which was originally "the best", I enjoyed all 3 in the past.
Windows 7 was my idea!

Red Alert is by far the best tongue in cheek RTS out there, I like it because Supreme Commander, Command & Conquer etc are so serious, but Red Alert comes in and has that pick up and playability that I love in games. I 100% agree with you on Need For Speed, I think they came out and got progressively better as far as the franchise is concerned until you got NFSU2 which was one of the best racing experiences I've ever played, loved it and still play it on my lappy (oh back in the day when it would only run on my beast gaming computer! lol) and since then it really did loose its way, Pro Street was ***, utterly utterly *** and I don't even recall the last NFS game, but I know they must have released it like they do every year ... >.> Probably the biggest *** up of a series of games has to be Leisure Suit Larry though, the 2d text based adventures started out so soooo well and were f****ng hilarious then you got Magna *** Laude and it all went wrong

Re: What was the best game franchise that totally blew it?
Games that need to die: Sonic: first 2 were awesome i loved those games, after that all downhill, now they have sonic unleashed... no. Mario: this series has been sucked so dry the bones are ashes. Resident ![E v i l [Evil]](/emoticons/e_v_i_l.gif) : went from a scary game with some hard key-finding gameplay to advance the plot. To extremely limited linear gameplay. Call of Duty: not so much but mix it up more then just changing the way the game it looks, it just seems the same exact game over and over again (thats for about all game were you defeat the Nazis in every game) and many more cant pull any more of em outa my head

Re: What was the best game franchise that totally blew it?
I think Final Fantasy has lost it ever since 9, although none where as as 7. Going massively multiplayer was a sad, sad mistake.
I agree that Red Alert has lost it. Part 1 was one of my favourite rts games of all time, part 2 and 3 couldn't hold my attention for more than an hour.
I also agree on Need for Speed having lost it. I loved part 3, High Stakes and Underground 2, but the rest just didn't hold my interest.
Unreal lost it's way too. Part 1 was a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. Then the Tournament versions came which where nice but completely different games, and part 2, when it finally came, had none of the atmosphere it's original had.

Re: What was the best game franchise that totally blew it?
I'm gonna throw a spanner in the works and suggest a game that not many people like at all, new or old but anywho... Dynasty Warriors. Number one didn't exsist (as a Dynasty Warriors, it was Dynasty Tactics) so the beginning came in the form of Dynasty Warriors 2. As far as I am concerned it was revolutionary in terms of a button basher (in that it was the first one). Now cut me some slack here if you can think of a better pre-dating one but I was relatively young at the time of release. Then came the cleverly titled Dynasty Warriors 3. Now, to be honest I didn't play this one fully but I did play Dynasty warriors 3 :Xtreme Legends which was a game in it's self rather than an expansion. Now this game was epic, and I mean epic. More epic than a three way chainsaw only fight between Jesus, Muhammed and Buddha (no comment on who would win *cough* Buddha *cough*). It had all the awesomeness of 2 with multiplayer. Multiplayer! Then from there it all went wrong. I don't exactly know why but it just got crap. Maybe the novelty wore off (which is alot of what the game relys on) but whatever, it just got bad. Then around 5 & 6 W-Omega started making Samurai Warriors, Wariors Orochi (which I played and can report it is Man-in-the-Sky aweful) and Warriors Gundam. Now we know they are milking it for all it's worth, more so than Bungie with Halo Wars and Halo: ODST. But please, before you dis the innevitable Dynasty Warriors 7, 8, 9 and 10, just remember the old days. I still play and have played all the Dynasty Warriors titles in the hope that one will emerge as a diamond of super-mega-fantasticness.

satansmunchkin:Magna *** Laude
epic censor fail Anyway, I am going to throw Guitar Hero out there. I mean, 1-3 were fine, but having half of the songs in WT require phonemes foreign to English to sing sucked. It also feels like it is now just ripping off rockband (which makes no sense given that rockband started as a GH clone+1). And when you throw in all of the poorly done band-specific games...

Re: What was the best game franchise that totally blew it?
Final fantasy is the worst. I use to love it, then they kept sacrificing game play for the sake of reallisim. Now you either have to let the game fight the battles without your help or lose time flipping through the characters trying to find which on is ready to fight because they don't automaticly go to the next character like they did on all of the other ones. It is cleat that final fantasy is an rpg that is now made by people who hate rpgs.

I facepalm you. Halo 3 = One of the best FPE's this decade, Halo CE = Awesome, Fun, NEEDS ONLINE.
Halo 2 = Argh! Fun but a shame to the grand series.
Halo 3 ODST = One of the best FPS's I have ever played.
So you fail. Many many agree with me.
Well I'm gonna go out and say it....
*sigh*
The Sims, Not because its bad but....
If I counted its expansions there would be enough to recreate WoW, Thats 20gigabytes folk! Theres one HELL of a lot of expansions, They milked it dry and are now using its actual body, The orginals.
(seriously EA, Put out less expansions for the third)

It's all opinions. Lots of people agreed that nazism was a great thing too. See we usually have a bit more discussion that "omg you fail - - - - - is great".
"both of which have crappy stories"
Thats not an opinion. Thats a statement. If you had said: "In my view it has a crappy storyline" I would of said "Many other's views are different and disagree but thats your opinion."

Of course it's a opinion that the stories sucks, you dont have to write in my opnion in front of things like that because there is no way it can be anything but a opinion. He even in his very first line wrote "what do you think ...". You want to see fail ? This is it

It's an opinion by absolutely any definition of the word. You are unequivocally wrong. Back to school with you.
Careful Del, this one is extremely mature and doesn't like to argue with idiots.
This as to go to Final Fantasy series as far as games that just blew it... they went from well told stories and well thought out characters with interesting back stories to well she-males in gimp suits that never learned the meaning of happiness.

You are just to immature to fully enjoy shemales as lead characters.

Re: What was the best game franchise that totally blew it?
The Call of Duty series is missing features that every military based game should have now-a-days. The biggest feature missing is SQUADS! How can FPS game developers developing a game with military based gameplay not add squad support. This is especially sinful since the Battlefield series has been doing it so well for so long.
Imagine perks for supporting your squad. It can only make team gameplay better. And add a commander role too.
There is nothing wrong with taking the ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) features that are developed in other games and adding them to your own games.
THERE I SAID IT!

Grand Theft Auto. The series peaked with San Andreas, and has been on a downward, boring spiral ever since.
