Re: fable 2 freezing issues
I haven't had a bug/glitch in this game till tonight. I was trying to open the demondoor in Wraithmarsh and had all my people and everything i run up to the demondoor and as his head comes out i walk back just a bit and my game just freezes. I can't move and the only thing i can do is change camera angles and bring up the menu and the dashboard. I tried to travel out but it says i cant because the scene hasn't finished. I fear i may have to restart the game all over. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
Can we expect patch for a freezing issue? Firstly, game freeze for me at the very beggining, then suddenly it started working again. Yesterday, it started to freeze again - I can't enter the city, I can pass the bridge and then game freeze!
Any official word from Lionhead in this matter? It looks that a lot of people facing this issue...

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
I created an account simply to voice my complaint. I am extremely disappointed in Lionhead. I impatiently waited for more than a year for this game to come out, and it randomly freezes between five minutes to an hour. I've gone through the intro of the game more than ten times (you can't save during it since it's considered a scene), and every time it freezes I must start over from the opening cinematic.
I've been expecting a patch for more than a month. I'm sorry, but I won't be bothered to buy any other Lionhead products. I'll be adding them to my list, right next to EA.

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
This is SHOCKING!
At best I can play my copy of Fable 2 for 30 mins, at worst 5 mins before the whole thing freezes, game and console. Did anyone actually TEST the game before it was released, because it certainly appears NOT!
I have never encountered problems like this with a game EVER, all I can do to play the game is to keep saving CONSTANTLY, after I do anything at all, because it is guarenteed to freeze, in fact the freezing issues seem to be the only part of the game that is stable!
How can it be that a game as eagerly anticipated and which obviously had a huge amount of time and effort put in to produce can be soooo full of bugs, I've experienced issues like this with PC games (which was nearly always a hardware issue and not the game itself) but never on a console!!!!!
What the hell is going on, I seriously doubt there'll ever be a 'fix-all' patch released and I'm fairly well convinced that Lionhead knew about the problems before release, they MUST have, these games get tested over and over again before they're released onto the market, you can't seriously expect us to believe that no one knew about this!?!?!?!?!
In future I'm afraid I'm going to keep WELL clear of Lionhead releases, at least until they've been out for a while without the wealth of problems Fable 2 has!
My copy is being returned to the store tomorrow and I'm going to get ANYTHING other than a Lionhead game!
Fable 2 looks amazing and should be so, I was SOOOO looking forward to this and it has been absolutely ruined by CONSTANT problems!
I have already emailed (cc'ed) a number of gaming websites with this post and links to the posts on here and NUMEROUS other forums!
Google 'Fable 2 Freezing' and you'll be astounded as to the number of complaints.
Again, never before have I encountered such problems with a console game. Sort it out Lionhead, for Christ sake and I may consider buying the game again (I'm serious, it's going back tomorrow!) and maybe in the future it'd be an idea to TEST a game properly before release!
Yours HUGELY dissapointedly!
An unhappy gamer.

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
Alright so I had this issue pretty bad after I installed the update. The entire system would lock up on me after only 2 or 3 minutes. I spent all sorts of time talking to Xbox Support. I even traded the disc in and got a new one. But I found a fix that worked on mine. Hopefully this can help some of you out too.
1.) Remove the update by clearing the cache. You do this by going to your hard drive settings by going to the hard drive and pressing Y. Then when you have the menu that allows you to format (Worry not, you don't have to format) press: X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X. Then select yes.
2.) Download the Fable 2 game to your hard drive. To do this highlight the Play Fable 2 from the dashboard and press Y. Then you will be able to download it to your hard drive (Sorry to the folks that don't have a hard drive). It'll take about 6.5 Gbs so you might need to make some room.
3.) Unplug that stupid Xbox Live connection when your playing (Yes I know you can't play Co-op online, but until Lionhead makes a functional patch we all have to make sacrifices). This is just a precautionary step but I'm sticking to it.
4.) Delete any corrupt save files from your hard drive and make sure your Xbox has room to breathe (My Xbox always sounds like a jet struggling to take off when I play Fable 2). If your Xbox overheats, it isn't going to end well. Personally, I bought the cooling fan at Walmart for on $20. Cheap and works well.
5.) Cross your fingers, toes, eyes, legs, and any other extremities you might have; pray to whatever God or teletubby figure you prefer and play away. Hopefully all goes well in wonderland and if not I'd recommend toying with your settings and see you can find that magical place. Best of luck men (and women) in getting everything to work.

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
Right i've been pulling my hair out over this for a while now but it's finally fixed. I completed the game and everything worked perfectly until I installed the update. Everything would then freeze randomly every few minutes. No red lights and i could even get back to the dashboard sometimes. Anyway, i then downloaded the game to my hard drive by selecting Fable 2 in the game library section on the dashboard. Having done that i tested the game and it still froze repeatedly. Then, in the main game I immediately paused, selected options and turned the orbs off. I continued playing and it hasn't frozen since. I carried on playing with my own profile for another hour and it didn't freeze once. My girlfriend who has recently got into the game on my xbox has been progressing through the game depite the intermittent freezes. In the options section the orbs on her profile are set to friends only, yet she hasn't experienced any freezes either. I wasn't sure whether to turn them off on hers too, but i wasn't prepared to risk changing any settings.
I hope that helps some people. Luck!

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
Since we can't expect a patch from lame Lionhead I tried to figure out best combination to play this cool game.
What I have done is:
I removed a Knothole Island (free) from a HD, I've downloaded it again, then (I didn't start a game) I installed game on a HardDrive and it fixed freezing issue for me.
It looks that there is no 100% working workaround so we have to all try...
I am just wandering we I paid full amount for a "alpha stage" product...
I hope that this will be fixed one day...
best,

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
Ill put my frustration in with the rest of you.
Though not as bad (yet) as some of you describe, the game (and controller) freezes every other hour or so and the only thing to do is get up and turn of the console on the power button.
It certainly doesnt speak well of Lionhead that they have released a game this flawed. I paid 60 euro for my copy, thats around $80US.

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
Just about to enter the Crucible... When the Loading screen takes a while, and the Hardrive begins to quiet down... The gears the the corner of the loading screen are turning and cranking and I've seen just about every excerpt/ message shown while in the waiting screen... it's been almost an hour and nothing has happened... CD is fine. Also when I try to move around or travel else where it seems to be okay, only when I enter the crucible. When I try to install it to my Hardrive, it stops at 32%, and read the error message for clean the disk. I have and still no go. If Lion Studio's made crappy copies of Fable which I gladly paid 50+$ for, I'll gladly trow it in the garbage.

Re: fable 2 freezing issues - lead to RROD!!!
I can't say for sure WTF has happened to my system, but I've had my Xbox 360 Elite since December 07, and it seemed great. However, I got Fable 2 for Christmas 2008, and on the 9th of January (When I finally got around to playing it) my system broke down with a massive error shortly afterwards.
So anyway, I sent it off for repair and I got it back around the 14th of January. I played a few games on it, had a laugh, and then thought to myself - "Hey, I didn't finish Fable 2!" - Well, I popped the disc in, played it for an hour or so, turned my Xbox off to get something to eat, and when I turned it back on -THE SAME ERROR CAME UP.
I had to send it off for repair AGAIN, it's now the 12th of February and I've only JUST got my system back this morning. I played some games again, and I had no issues, until you guessed it - I put Fable 2 in, and it freezes my whole console. I've tried it over, and over, and over again.......
It's pathetic. ![Down []](/emoticons/icon13.gif)
I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY NOBODY OFFICIAL IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS OBVIOUS ERROR! It's BS!
My system didn't get a proper RROD though, it got the one red light, E74 error. Twice, in the space of one month, always after testing Fable 2. I UTTERLY hold Lionhead responsible.

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
I had a totaly "unfrozen" session last night and if it indeed continues i will apologize to Lionhead for my earlier outburst in shame. I went through the steps of trouble shooting on xbox homepage and realized my positioning of the xbox may not have been as fault free as i had thought. I had my xbox lying (well ventilated) on top of my VCR which - although inactive - was plugged in and just a little bit warm. I have never had any problems with any other games but you never know.
So i put the console down flat on the floor away from any other electrical equipment and so far so . Ill keep you posted on the progress.

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
I came to tell you guys that I found a way to play Fable II without it freezing, but it seems I've been beaten to it. This is exactly what I did to begin my hours of freeze-free playing.
-Cleared Hardrive Cache: X, X, LB, RB, X, X
-Deleted Knothole Island download and all corrupt save files.
-I've been playing while connected to Xbox Live, but I have all orbs turned off.
By the way, I'm not apologizing to Lionhead for consuming 6.5 GBs of my HDD.

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
I had this issue and it got progressively worse, I think the only way to even begin to fix it is to install the game to HDD.

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
this is nuts, i wished i had found this info before buying the game or i would have never bought it. i loved the first game and figured this would be ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) also. but i bought the game 3 days ago and have been playing the last 2 days strait and i'm now at the point of where i have to head to wraithmarsh for the Hero of Skill quest and every time i try to go there i get the black screen "crash". i even tried going there via the Cellus Portal and i did get a very very long load screen, but then after about 4 minutes of loading it finally went to the black "crash" screen where my only option was to reset the Xbox 360 via the Power button. I have had a funny feeling it may have something to do with the fact there are at least 3 quests on my list that take place simultaneously in wraithmarsh, there maybe a 4th quest, but i know for sure there are at least 3 at once there. And i had a bad feeling about that when i seen them all in one spot. because none of my quests so far where multiple in one zone. i'm going to try and do a second game and maybe try and do it so i only have the main quest going to that zone. but i may just try and swap my game out for a different one and see before it's to late. all i know is i'm going to be very causious of anymore games from lionhead studios in the future. most likely i won't even bother because fable 2 has been a bitter sweet experience so far. oh and by the way, i have the game installed to my hard drive. and there are no scratches at all on my disc. just a few blemishes underneath the disc's protective coating, which i assume that the game is reproduced very cheaply.

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
I guess it is a combination of issues with the game and the xbox. However, I had freeze after freeze until I downloaded to the HD. Now, I can actually play the game without dealing with much hesitation at all. I haven't had a freeze yet, weeks so it is much better than what was happening before where I couldn't even reach the adult life it was freezing so badly.
I will post again once I get past two weeks and let you know how it does.

Thank you! I'd been going nuts yesterday & today. Unpatched game, since I'm on dialup and the 360 is elsewhere in the flat. Bought the game Thursday while home sick from work. Started playing Friday, noticed the odd graphics glitch so just boosted the air flow through the 360 (hot climate, so I make sure to add plenty of airflow and don't even bother trying to play on days over 40C) By Sunday night, I couldn't get to some map areas. Didn't matter what quest or how I tried to enter, the game just stuck "loading" and cycling help tips. I fell asleep & it was still going Monday (today) at 9am. Had to reboot manually - the 360 was so frozen that even trying to exit to dashboard or hold londer for shutdown options failed to show. In the end, I started a second game. Well, I got maybe 2 hours out of it - then first trip to Oakfields and now attempting to buy anything freezes, trying to interact with anyone the menus only half show - the text is there but no icons and no indication of what's highlighted. Which also shows when doing jobs - the display takes so long to show up you've dropped 2 mugs of ale, or chopped your toe off, etc. Gave the 360 a rest & aimed more fans through it & tried later. I got 5 minutes play & back to lockups. So I'll be turning it back on shortly to test your advice. Great game, just a pity sometimes it becomes unplayable

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
Awwww cr*p! I just realised my 360 is still using the old gui. No copy to harddrive option. Damnit! I guess I'll have to ask a friend with broadband or see if it can be downloaded external to the box and installed from CD

Re: fable 2 freezing issues
Varnell:"I created an account simply to voice my complaint." Yeah same here. I think Lionheart should be held responsible for reimbursing the cost of this game to the people that were fooled into thinking it would work. Imagine that... people assuming a game is going to work for the system it's made for.
Why hasn't this been made public knowledge. My XBOX 360 is two months old, and I have tried everything to get the game to function for more than 10 minutes. I don't have xbox live so I never installed the patch that supposedly caused the problem. I'm personally going to tell everyone I know not to buy this POS game. I really think lionheart studios needs to issue a public apology for this nonsense, or it's going to have to deal with a lot of lawsuits. I've read in several threads that people experiancing this issue eeventually have to deal with the Red Ring of Death. My quess is Lionheart is bankruipt by the end of the year. Just a thought.
