    B&W needs some lovin' too!

Ive just recently joined the site here, but i've been a Lionhead fanatic ever since my hands grasped the case of B&W. This plea im about to put forth more than likely wont have any effect on what will happen to the B&W series, but I damn sure am not gonna let it die without putting forth my opinion. B&W, both the 1st and the 2nd, need some attention!

Speaking on B&W, why not give us multiplayer back? Why take it away in the first place? Was it really that much of a pain in the ass to keep it going? Now, what is a pain in the ass is trying to get the phoenix/hamachi to work right on a regular basis. Look, if the people who love to play this game can come up with programs that will allow themselves, along with other players, to play it online, then there has got to be some way for Lionhead to do the same.

As for B&W 2, what the hell happened? Personally, I love the game. Though I wish the creature had not been changed, in short, to a machine. Lionhead, you have fans on here working hard to create multiplayer mods and new campaigns just so they can have a taste of how much greater the game could be! Like B&W, the sequel needs Multiplayer! Im sure there are many people who love the game like it is, and dont think it needs any multiplayer/skirmish. But think, there are are also many people who love the game and do think it needs multiplayer/skirmish! So hook us up! Dont just let it die, it deserves better!

I know it must be hard to work on the Fable series, the B&W series, and the movies all at once, but that doesnt justify letting B&W rot! Atleast not from my eyes. Give us a little something! Give us B&W multiplayer back! I have bought B&W, B&W:CI, B&W2, B&W2:BOTG, Fable, and Fable 2, so im a damn G o o d [Good] fan!

Well theres my 2 cents. Lionhead take note! Anythings possible!

I'm all for a B&W sequal if it's like the first game, if it won't be, it might as well continue rotting, because B&W2 was a horrible game, whereas the first game is easily one of my top favourites. D:

Re: B&W needs some lovin' too!

Im a little confused with your post, but if you meant "I'm all for B&W 3 if it's like the first game....", I do somewhat agree! The first B&W creature AI was absolutely amazing! The creature battle's were damn fun. How you could control the punches/dodges/blocking etc. of your creature, added a uniqueness to the first game. It was like something I had never seen before in any other game. Besides the creature fights, simply teaching and hanging out with your creature was a blast.

    For example:

While you were on one side of the town gesturing a water miracle to grow your crops, you could look over and see your creature acting an ass and throwing rocks at your houses. You would give him a slap or two and move along. A few minutes later you would see him pick a rock up and throw it at some of your villagers, crushing them. Once again, you would give him a few slaps and move along. Gradually, the creature would stop the throwing of rocks at your town and maybe begin throwing rocks at the enemy gods town instead, with a little bit of your help to guide him! What im trying to state is progression. Progession with your creature in the first B&W was revolutionary. In B&W2 you can simply pull up a list of the things your creature can do, then smack or pet him according to what you want him to do, and what you dont want him to do. You do this once, and thats it. No slip ups, no mistakes, no uniqueness, and worst of all, no progression. This alone added the most dissapointment for me.

In the end, I do still think B&W2 is great. But simply put, it's too damn easy.

B&W 2 was a flawed, but G o o d [Good] game. In the end though, too much time was spent on minor details, while core gameplay and story was neglected. If they ever make another one, I will be happy to buy it yet again, provided that it will live up to the legacy the first one left behind... That is my 2 cen- err, my 1 cent...

Re: B&W needs some lovin' too!

Yes I agree. If a B&W 3 is made, they should really bring back what made B&W great..but how many times has this been said? Really, im sure they know this!

Now instead of looking ahead at "B&W3" and what not, how about we get things with B&W and B&W 2 rolling? Lionhead, if there is any possible way what so ever that B&W multiplayer support can be returned, please give it back! If there isnt any way for B&W multiplayer support to be returned, then how about some B&W 2 multiplayer or skirmish? Something to keep us in check, ya know? Something to keep us playing the damn thing! Look I love the game, but after going through the story mode with every creature, it gets old! And resorting to mods can be costly and complicated.

Sorry if im coming off as a broken record, but im just trying to help wipe the dust off the B&W series. If enough people showed they still play B&W (either one) and enjoy it, then anythings possibe.

Heh, I re-play Black & White and Dungeon Keeper every 1~2 years. They're just too damn fun.

Re: B&W needs some lovin' too!

I don't post on these forums very often, but this deserves something. Wink [;)]

I absolutely agree with the idea to bring back B&W.  I really loved the army idea from the second game, but that's all I liked about it.  B&W1 was such a great game!  The only thing that I found disappointing was the constant desync during multiplayer.  Both B&W and its sequel needed more attention on the multiplayer (especially the sequel).

As the creator of this topic, I bought all the B&W games/expansions as well as Fable and its sequel.  Fable is an awesome series but I believe B&W to have WAY more potential because it is a very unique game, whereas Fable is an RPG with spells and leveling and the such (don't get me wrong, it's still a much better RPG than most, but it's been done hundreds of times).  Anyways that's my 2 cents for B&W.

...another thing I have to add though is that I would have no doubt pre-ordered BC as soon as they were available. Stick out tongue [:P]  I don't know why it was cancelled, but I hope they start it up again for Xbox 360!

Re: B&W needs some lovin' too!

Why would Lionhead bother spending time and money to make someone so obviously a loyal fan more content? I'm not sure about the logistics, but making patches and multiplayer add-ons for a dead game doesn't seem like a very lucrative decision. Black & White 2 was neither particularly financially successful nor critically acclaimed. There's absolutely no incentive for them to do anything with Black & White 2.

Re: B&W needs some lovin' too!

I would personally prefer them to make B&W1 LAN play synchronize correctly over adding multiplayer to B&W2.

But Lionhead is a G o o d [Good] company, what incentive do they need to make their loyal fans happy?  Just the mere fact that people would be really thrilled about such a small improvement should be incentive enough.  Why does everything always have to be about money?  Seriously if they sent me the coding for B&W and directed me to their multiplayer portion, after I finished my programming course I would edit it myself to create a better synchronization between computers.

Even if they as a company decided not to modify the multiplayer or allow a loyal fan to make some changes, I think it's safe to assume that they enjoy doing what they do.  And for that simple fact, one of the lionhead programmers could make a few changes to their old games in his/her off time.  I mean, fans create third-party software and in some cases even modify the game itself, and that is all for free in their off time!  I see no reason why Lionhead couldn't do the same... you shouldn't assume they are only in it for the money.

Okay, when they do any of that for you, I will print out my words and eat them. I'll video tape it.

Re: B&W needs some lovin' too!

For all those who want effectively a remake of the original: the release of other installments for BW as a series cannot be reconciled if you simply rehash the first in the series... At best you can release it as an add-on pack with additional content and a graphics update (which is no bad thing). Myself I would be pretty disappointed if a BW3 was released that was simply the same as the first but with new graphics (although it'd probably please the crysis-tards and their ilk) ^^ [^^]

Re: B&W needs some lovin' too!

I think B&W will sit for awhile. As it should. Peter said he would do 5 B&W games, but Pete says alot of things. Cheeky [:cheeky:]

Everything you want should have been there back when the game had a healthy base, if not as large as hoped. The thing with B&W is its an attrociously great concept, but like so many great concepts they often trip on themselves.

I think lionhead is hoping to get out of the box and create new ip's and explore different ideas. They are a unique company with a lead who enjoys creativity.

Re: B&W needs some lovin' too!

I have came up with lots of ideas for Black and White series.
like when your in between G o o d [Good] and E v i l [Evil] you temple becomes a place of learning and when your G o o d [Good] it become a place of healing and E v i l [Evil] it becomes a nacromancers temple where you can hire nacromancers who can raise the dead during battles.

And when you take over other towns or villages you can make trading post and routes and share reasorces wood so on.
like one village has a mine and you can send a certin amount of ore to other villages towns and city.

i can keep going on so i'll give yous these examples.
    The Darkness is everywhere.
