Re: The Ability to block members
Knowing these forums, even if it was possible it would end up being a security hole where you can block a moderator and avoid being banned or something daft like that.
It's one of the many things we had with Vb and don't have now.

Haha I could see something like that happening but if they go with a different forum down the road I'm sure they would make sure you could not block Moderators, Admins or Developers.

Re: The Ability to block members
Well if you blocked members, then perhaps they either answered a question, and if you don't see the message and you answer it, then you look kinda like your spamming with the same answer. Some other scenarios could wind up where issue lead to other arguments and forwarding to forums you can't view because the creator was blocked by you. Just has quite a bit of issues...now just imagine if you block all the Moderators...then you would probably get banned without even knowing, because you wouldn't be able to receive a warning, or even warnings from other members you may have blocked. Although I do understand in some cases, there are certain members who rightfully diserver the Naughty Badge, the best thing to do is to just foward the situation to a Moderator and hope the situation is resolved, they are afterall Moderators for a reason and they are here to ensure the protection of these forums and keep a lasting enjoyable atmosphere for all members. (*Hope Moose doesn't feel the Wolf is on that "Special" Block List.*)

Re: The Ability to block members
It works on all other forums so why not ?
They could just make the posts of blocked users look like this (so you can actually see they did a post) and you just shouldnt be able to block moderators even though you dont even get a reason for your ban anyway.
[THIS POST IS BY A USER ON YOUR IGNORE LIST]

Yeah Maggot has a ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) idea, the post is hidden but there could be a show button.

Re: The Ability to block members
How about you just don't read their posts? It's pretty avant-garde, I know. It's pretty radical. We're doing animal testing right now, to make sure it's safe for humans.

And how do you go about doing that? Do you mentally condition yourself not so see the words on your monitor? Do you repress memories of their user name? Do you psychologically force yourself to never click on any thread they make or have participated in?
What you are suggesting is both daft and impossible.

I guess you scroll down past their post?

Re: The Ability to block members
Then scroll up?
Not reading posts isn't particularly difficult and doesn't require some kind of advanced psychological rewiring of your brain. Still, a block feature couldn't do any harm I suppose.

Re: The Ability to block members
I don't really see why people's posts are so feared from reading. Try going by badges...usually people with the ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) Member badge have something that is reliable to offer...people with the Naughty Member Badge usually should be skipped on their opinions, most likely their posts might be spam or irrelevant, the Lurker should be semi-revered due to their lurking ![Paranoid [:aranoid:]](/emoticons/paranoid.gif) ...the 100% badges usually mean that person probably has a lot of experience in that game, Techies can help with computer and technological situations...ect...you get the point, just check badges to see how reliable that person is...their join date, kharma, badge, ect. However I'm not that judgemental on people, I usually read every post and try to help as much as possible. However if certain people are that way, just following above might be the best solution.

Re: The Ability to block members
Undead---God:Then scroll up
Extra posts are posted downwards, so I have to scroll down to see them. Not reading posts is impossible because whatever my eyes see, they read. For example, if I was wanting to read my post, I would not be able to avoid seeing mystic_wolf83's post.
Maybe your brain is different, maybe you can look at words and not process them. I can't unfortunately, so a block feature is useful. (I'm a very quick reader if that helps you understand my affliction).
Don't read this post.

Re: The Ability to block members
I suspect the point was more to just not bother looking at the words. All posts are very clearly marked with a user name, which is displayed sufficently far from the content of the post for your eyes to not focus on what they've written. And I don't know about other people but I automatically look at a username before I start reading the post. Otherwise I don't know who's written it.
So there's a fairly simple way of not even having to have your eyes cast over the words of any individual poster. Not that I've got anything in particular against a block feature.

Don't read this post.
You could sort posts be ascending instead of descending if it really bothers you. ![^^ [^^]](/emoticons/^^.gif) Click your name next to Sign Out. Then Click Site Options, and Sort Posts by Ascending. ![Dead [:notalive:]](/emoticons/dead.gif) It's just the Lionhead Forums don't have the block feature at this point it would seem. Nothing much that you can really do at not reading threads that peeve you to read because they appear on the screen.

I'm not sure how quick of a reader you'd need to be to read an entire post in the fraction of a second it takes to realise who posted it, but if you really can't scroll past then it sounds more like your computer has very bad lag instead of you having some kind of problem which causes your eyes to be dragged to the small section of the screen with text on and you instantly absorb what was written.

Re: The Ability to block members
How am I the one making an issue out of it ![Tongue Tied [:S]](/emoticons/emotion-7.gif) ? Orcid suggested simply ignoring the posts, you said that in order to do so you'd need complicated psychological conditioning. I just said that of course you don't (along with a few others), but a block feature wouldn't be a bad idea anyway.
Besides, you're the one trying to say that you can read an entire post in the blink of an eye without being able to ignore it when you see who posted it - the first feature most people notice (thanks to the conveniently placed avatar, username, etc I suppose).

Re: The Ability to block members
And you can't even manage to ignore posts!
You poor thing. You really should get that mental conditioning and whatnot.
Unless of course you don't have any of these problems you keep saying you do and this was all just so you could argue with Oricid. But that would be absurd.

Re: The Ability to block members
O_o
All I'm saying is a block function is superior to 'ignoring'. I'm terribly sorry that you cannot appreciate my reasons why, but like I said; You don't need to make an issue out of it.
(I don't agree with much of what Orcid says. It's nothing personal, I don't really know the guy. We just have vastly different world views. Don't read anything more sinister into that. If I see things I don't agree with, I post (same as what you're doing now). Is that what your problem really is? :/ )
