Just like to see if any one else has had the problem I have had. My xbox 360 started to reject my Far Cry 2 disc yesterday saying it was unreadable when there was nothing wrong with the disc.
Today I bought the new Batman game, brand new and coming up with disc unreadable. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if it's the laser that's gone?

Xbox 360 = Fail

Might be that your disc drive is failing or need's a clean or just need's a new laser. My advice: use it as much as possible, and then when the problem becomes prominent, contact MS about. There warranty cover's the disc drive so it's worth a try. Hope it ain't anything bad.

They do = fail but i just love the games so much. Going to get the PS3 slim anyway. And it's just really acting out this console. I spent 4 hours trying to get farcry 2 to work on saturday as it kept coming up disc unreadable, and yesterday it works absolutely fine, yet a brand new game comes up disc unreadable. My game extended warranty is still valid so if they're anything like the last 3 times they'll just swap the console over for a new one.

Chin up dude. You've just decided to buy the Cheapest Blu-ray drive for £250/$299. And guess what you get PS3 with the Blu-ray drive free. (In term's of getting a blu-ray drive, it'd cost us in the Uk exactly £250 for a moderate version, so add the PS3 too, and you've got yourself a true blue bargain) :-) It's not all bad. Maybe your xbox 360 breaking again, was a blessing in disguise.

Yer even at 17 my mom still controls any large expenditures I make, and I've been trying to convince her to let me get a PS3 for ages. Finally convincing her with the I want a blu-ray player so I might as well get a PS3 argument.

Most likely I'll still get a majority of my games for the 360 once I get a new one today (fingers crossed) I'll let you know how I get on at Game.

hey man! Awesome! One more birthday to go and you'll have free reign over what you want to buy. Be smart though, I almost bought games over food once... Naa not really, but you get the point. lol. Btw, a heads up, the new Prince of persia is an excellent game and it's priced at £10 or below in Game. Definitely worth your money. The price is where it is because barely anyone bought it on release. But trust me, go to a games review site and you'll see the review is paticularly . ;-p

Sounds awesome. Well finally got back from town, no problems at the game store. Guess the guys know me quite a bit now and got a new console and replaced my controller as the right bumper was a bit dodgy.

EDIT: It appears that even though my xbox disc drive was probably failing it is actually my copy of batman that is screwed. Wont even play on my new console.

dont be so quick to judge the console being messed up, maybe you weren't taking care of it properly but anyway, the ps3 is nice, I just got the slim a few days ago, got both consoles now. It's nice but if your a big online guy, and like chattin with people in game stick to the 360 for that. The online on ps3 is pretty underdeveloped.

once I get the ps3 I'll only use it for exclusives and single player games with better graphics.

At least the new console has meant my other games are working fine. I think I was just very unlucky to get a busted game at the same time my console was dying. And I look after my games and consoles thank you

Yes it is disc reading problems from everything i found on google. Guess you have to call MS.

Meh there is. You just picked a horrible one there, resistance is average at best.

Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles are some exclusives you should really look into. Especially uncharted is one of the most underrated games.

Couple of people I have spoke to have said Uncharted is very . My mate has lent me Killzone 2 and I've just ordered the PS3 slim.

As for the console seems to be working now. Disc was definitely a problem as I tested on another console and so got a nice working copy now (hopefully).

How old is your X-box? just curious. I have a friend that buys messed up 360's on ebay like 10 of them at a time for 100 bucks, and fixes them and re-sells them. he said normally the problem stems from the unit heating up and components unsolder from the heat, the board they sit on becomes somewhat warped. the reason I asked the year model is because according to him. most of the newer models have the newer chord and have been re-enginered,  so with the newer model that issue should be alleviated. I had the problem you are talking about with my ps 2, they were known for this very issue. cannot read disk the eye would screw up and booyah ruined system. I would contact ms..  If it is a newer system,  that is bad news.

Oh yeah, im not saying there aren't any nice games, just not a whole lot compared to the amount of exclusives on the xbox. Uncharted didnt really look all that great, I think its mainly the setting and style that throws me off.
