    New Idea...

So, I watched the movie 'Gamer' a couple weeks ago, and it got me thinking... This stuff is crazy but at the same time I can see the Gaming Industry getting to a point where that is possible (If you don't know what I'm talking about, I don't want to ruin the movie for you; I liked it a lot). I then got to wondering, what if Natal and Milo are precursers to technology similar to this... Now, I DO understand that the Natal/Milo technology is nowhere near what was presented in Gamer, but I still feel it's a close connection given today's technology...

Look at the massive following games like Halo have. Now, imagine what Natal represents for Gamers; no controllers, no wires, just you and the game... Now, imagine if this technology actually takes hold and advances!

Also, understand that I'm not saying, at the moment, we're in danger of someone trying to control our minds. I'd like to think that we're smart enough to know something like that is a complete violation of human rights. But, I do think it is possible... eventually... one day...

I really don't think a virtual kid signals the start of world war three. Let's not romanticize this thing, its just some stupid gimmick from Lionhead. I've been wondering though...Will they make allowances for my tourettes syndrome? And will they also pay for my TV when I punch Milo in the face for asking too many questions?

    Re: New Idea...

I didn't meen the kid would bring WWIII. and the movie wasn't about WWIII either... I meant, with the advances in technology, especially due to the revenue the gaming industry is creating, it's not crazy to think that something along those lines is at least possible...

just think of the kind of game this would allow. Like peter said this is going to create a new genre of games. Imagine being able to really make choices in rpgs. No word choices to choose from but your actually dialouge. Spelling errors, i know.

and now imagine standing up waving your arms around for a 6 hour session in a cramped flat Crazy [] sorry it does look cool for a few small things but does not seem practical for serious gaming imo just look at the wii yeah its popular but all the games are gimmicky party type games

Waving your arms around? It seems you have no idea how games would work on Natal and the Wii, especially with that bizarre party games comment.

    Motion sensing =/= dancing around.

Hmmm...and yet Wii Sports is the best selling video game of all time.  At 41 million units sold it beat out Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt,  and even Tetris.

They must be doing something right. *shrug*

    Re: New Idea...

People like gimmicky party type games. Fact.

Most of my gamer friends regret buying their Wii's and quickly moved on to other consoles with greener pastures. My brother just gets his wii out at parties.

    Quite a spectacle.

I dont deny its popularity I even said its popular in my post nor do I deny its power to sell games I was stating that most of the "advanced input" Wii type games have so far been party games.

when I say "does not seem practical for serious gaming" I was refering to the authors comments about the movie gamer where a motion capture system is used with a 3rd person shooter i just think it would be awkward

    all G o o d [Good] Wink [;)]

Edit: Did not mean to insult anyone or imply that party games are not serious gaming to everyone they are just not serious games to me since I played a Wii about 2 or 3 times it was fun but I do not plan on getting one any time soon..

    Re: New Idea...

Oh, there's undeniably a massive amount of party game potential for the Natal, just as there's a massive amount of potential for just about every genre. The Wii's got quite a large amount of party games (but there's more serious ones as well, obviously) because of Nintendo's focus on attracting non-gamers, so I expect that Microsoft would try to find other uses for motion sensors.

You still don't seem to understand that motion sensors don't mean you have to leap about though. It's nothing to do with wording, there's just no reason to move much at all. You don't have to stand like a statue with straight arms because there's no reason to stand at all. There'll be some games which require you to stand and move about, but they're nothing new. Gaming mats are almost as old as gaming itself. If you don't like them, buy one of the other Natal games which use the motion control in a different way. There'll be games which require you to move about and there'll be games which don't feature much more movement than pressing a button. Just buy whichever games you like, but you can't judge Natal because it will have some games you don't like.
