however with all those pets the player would lose that bond they have with the dog and see him more as a tool than your best friends

Too late, the dog's already just a tool.
    A poor tool at that.
    BARK BARK DIG DIG
    Beyond that, it's an annoyance.

Aww but I enjoy playing fetch and doing expressions that make him do flips and other stuff. sides any way mine never finds the treasure before I do, he only finds dig spots and looks cute in his tie.

After beating the game 19 times I've had about enough of the dog.
After the last time I beat it I just enjoyed the peace and quiet for a while before
    going to Knothole island.

    Re: alternet pets

How about a shop then sells pets (with a funny ironic name) and these pets hav  a certain life or hp and get hit by npcs also u cant heal them either...when u kill enemies they lv up so u can add ur points to fighting and tresure finding saves wasteing books on pets that wil die anyway....and they wont be cheap either ohh no they can be sold for like afew mils or more unless lionhead sort the money thing out....aand how about pets dogs/cats wonder the streets? and u see bears and wolves(foxes) roam wooded areas?

    Dude being E v i l [Evil] rocks.

    Re: alternet pets

I think E v i l [Evil] people should beable to have a wolf, maybe G o o d [Good] people have a smaller white tiger. The dragon thing wouldn't work out because the "last" one was dead  before you were born in the first Fable so that'd contradict a little, no a lot. If anyone besides me has heard of or played the game Xiah, you'd know what I'm talking about when i say that a Horn Dog would be a great pet actually. It'd go along with the E v i l [Evil] corrupt morph since it has horns too.

    Re: alternet pets

I think the dog wasn't very well done it was pretty repetitive in it's reactions to the environment. I never did feel the connection you were supposed to do. In combat it would occasionally rip out a throat. A pet shop where they have a parrot, cat, dog, monkey, chicken, pig. That would add some customization to your character. As said before each one could be capable of doing a "trick" or skill i.e. theft, comic routine, whatever.

At the very least should lionhead decide to bring pets into their next project if they are going to be in combat they should actually engage in combat not hang back or get in the way. Also giving the same control over your pet as you have in (Overlord) over your minions sort of pikmin style.

Also with all the dragon comments, why not a Wyvern, drake, imp I know theres a huge difference between them but it is a fantasy game after all. As to having wolves and other animals, why not? It's either quality or quantity though that's the thing. There is no way that we'll get more then three pets and be able to expect anything decent take a look at what we got with just one dog, he turned into a tool to find treassure beyond that I more or less ignored him.

    Re: alternet pets

I have a general Idea of how this could work.

All pets have different abilities such as

Dog: general, all around package. comes with all abilities but low combat performance (as is seen already)

Cat: Also well rounded, but has a longer "sensor range" and better combat abilities (i.e. it jumps up to slash the face of enemies, and can take 2 hits before limping around) cant sniff out dig spots

Pig: Rather slow, but long "sensor range" does poorly in combat, but can take 3 hits. cant sniff out chests.

Badger: Weapon pet. Carries a small blunderbuss and can support you in combat. (frankly, this would be adorable. a little badger kicking ass with a lil shotgun and running with it holstered to his back.) can sniff out dig spots.

Monkey: Weapon pet. Carries a small mace to bash the knees of enemies. no teasure detecting abilities, but can climb trees and find stuff there. (only if you let it alone enough will it climb a nearby tree)

Parrot: Bonus pet. Makes people hate you less, so you get better prices at shops. can claw people's eyes out.

all pets would be effected by your alignment. an E v i l [Evil] cat wil turn black and hiss and growl at people, and a G o o d [Good] cat will be white and fluffy and purr alot.

An E v i l [Evil] pig will turn black and grow tusks and try to run people over squealing alot, and a G o o d [Good] pig will turn pink and pudgy and oink happily

A bad badger will be all black (they have stripes down their backs right?) and have a little cigar. and a G o o d [Good] badger will be white with grey stripes, and try to eat the butterflies fluttering around it's head.

A bad monkey will look like Mojo Jojo, with an exposed brain and turn kinda green and howl at people alot. a G o o d [Good] monkey will be nice and play with children and be a shiny brown.

a bad parrot will look scaly and Pteradactyl esque and say mean things to villagers (BRAAAWWK! you suck *whistle*) and a G o o d [Good] parrot will be a nice blue and yellow, and say nice things (*whistle* nice hat BRWAAAK!)

I over analyzed again didnt I?

different breeds would be a G o o d [Good] idea. I would want pit bull just like my dog Big Smile [:D]
but if you want different animals how about a turtle........ Turtle power!!
