Hey guys. Dont mind the name, I made this way back before Fable 2 came out. Anyways, I was just thinking about Fable 3 this morning, and something came to my mind. I've always wondered, when is there going to be a bit more diversity in the town?
First of all, every villager has the same general physique. I would love to see strong people, weak people, short people, tall people, etc. Whenever I go to plunder a village, the same thing happens every time. I want there to be brave people, that want to fight you back. Everyone is a coward. They all just run! No one tries to join you; no one tries to bribe you not to kill them. You never see bandit raids on cities. When I'm randomly in a town, I want to see action! I want there to be corrupt guards, theives, and raids. To sum it up, villagers and village AI needs to be improved.
It seems lionhead is doing a great job on that so far. Woman stealing from the Royal kitchens.. that's what I'm talking about!
There needs to be more faces. 15 million flowers, yet every 3 faces are the same.. Again, needs to be more diversity.
We should be able to kill everyone. EVERYONE in a city. Who cares about the little kids? If we're , killing kids should be no problem. We need to see people of all ages. Everyone is either 40, or 5. Villagers should have skill in fighting as well. Some smart ones may even know basic magic. But the main thing is, in all the Fable games, why are the villagers always so obvously lower than you? That's not realistic at all. There should be tough villagers that should be able to kill you. I guess the number one mistake in the Fable games is making the hero feel all powerful, like they already got it all. Even when you start out as a kid.. you know you're gonna be the best, theres no point in working for it. I think we should EARN this priviledge. Just think about it, I bet there are people out there that could easily be a better preident than Obama (I do like Obama, this is just an example). And, I bet there are loads of people that can fight better than Jackie Chan. My point is, villagers should have some sort of enigma, everyone one of them is the same peice of crap we can knock out in one slap. Let's change that.
I'd like to see more Bandit Factions, with more AI. Every type of Bandit is on the same side. They are gangs, why are they all together? They should fight eachother for power. (I mean.. it's only natural..) Sure all bandits hate guards, but lets be realistic. Bandit gangs don't like other bandit gangs. ![E v i l [Evil]](/emoticons/e_v_i_l.gif)
I think I already mentioned corrupt guards and officials. This is another common reality that the fable games fail to show. (I guess if they are in Fable 1 if you look at Jack Of Blades' guards.) But really, not every guard is a saint. ![E v i l [Evil]](/emoticons/e_v_i_l.gif)
We need a living world. Sometimes I'm wandering Brightwood, and I feel there's something missing. Where are the wolves? The deer? The bears?
These additions woould help amplify the quality of Fable 3. Sure adding deer wouldnt make much of a difference, but without little things like these, it feels empty - like something's missing.
What do you think?
PS. Who wants to bring back bows? Kinda late, but Bows > Crossbows right ![Up []](/emoticons/icon14.gif) ![Nervous [:nervous:]](/emoticons/nervous.gif)

Re: Artificial Intelligence
Nicely wrote, the problem with the villagers is because they have set heads, torsos and legs but it would be awesome to see loads more diversity in NPCs maybe being radomly generated, and I really like the idea of random events such as people stealing and fighting back when you go on a massacre rather than waiting for death.
Bandits have always been a problem too, it'd be nice to see random raids occurring on small towns which as king you could help out by sending more guards too protect or leave them to their fate, or even bribe the bandits in to not attacking again.
There's definitely some great opportunity available for Lionhead to expand upon.

I can't say anything else than:
I love your ideas!
But the kid part:
I dunno if it's true, but if I understands the "law",
it's illegal to kill children in games, for some weird reason...

Re: Artificial Intelligence
I agree on the villager thing. Theres needs to be more diversity on the villagers and more AI. That and, make ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) looking villagers and bad looking ones, ![E v i l [Evil]](/emoticons/e_v_i_l.gif) ones, neutral ones, smart ones, retarded ones and so on. There was some diversity in fable 2 where you could see some peasants on the bridge at bowerstone market.... However, everyone just looks the same... I wanna see some dumbnut teenager trying to set a new fashion trend or a hairstyler with a great hairstyle to show for it (Shop owners should have their own individual look which makes me wonder why the blacksmith was the ONLY shop owner that looked different from all the other characters) And yes, something that fable 1 had that fable 2 didn't, was the bribing of guards. "Pay 1,000 gold for their break" I would like to see guile come back aswell since it seemed like a fun thing to do. (I spent quite a bit of my first few hours in the game, just stealing armor and other stuff, aswell as breaking in houses by picking the locks xD) Personally, i felt more in touch with the society in Fable 1 because people hyped events, there was a bit more involvement with the town and such thanks to guile and the sponsoring of guards "break" was kinda nice. I think the heroes guild quests from fable 1 showed us a bit of the world aswell. How you could team up with the guards to take that 1 bandit to execution or team up with bandits and free the bandit and kill the guards... it really brought you into some of the towns affairs and it was quite interesting... made you feel like a real hero. (why is it that theres a bandit raid in the beggining of fable 1, story wise and then they never raided the town after that? XD)

Re: Artificial Intelligence
Well I'm not sure on how true this is but apparently in fallout 2 in some US versions you could kill children but it drastically lowered your reputation. It's all down to the developer I think, if you show children in a game but don't allow us to kill them then people complain, if you put children the game then allow people to kill them I doubt people would intentionally go around killing them, it's when you can't do something, you want to do it.
All about publicity for the developers aswell, just think of the media outrage.

I've Fallout 1 and 2 here somewhere, so I'll might give it a try
Did some quick research:
I don't think ESRB will ever allow the "killing of children".
But if they do, I guess the game will be rated Adult Only (AO).
And I might be wrong, but this is probably why we can't kill children.
(Fallout is a bit old, that might be a reason why you can kill children)

Dunno, but in the beginning, it sure looks like he's killing children.
Wild guess:
AO = less sold games
Can't say that this is true though.
Some AO games:

yes i agree with everything there, i remember trying to add a little more realism so i thoughti would take a wander through brightwood to just find im walking and looking at trees for most of the walk, to see more birds, add some creatures (Some people complained they didnt want real life animals in the game yet what about the dog so you might as well add some others) Like Deer and Wolves, (maybe you see some hobbes feasting on Deer Carcass, or maybe 3 Bandits trying to fend off a pack of circling Wolves) i do remember seeing rabbits which was a nice touch so add a little more and immersion is almost perfect,

Re: Artificial Intelligence
I don't know if it was mentioned but why not crimes...? Every NPC has a name and can be 'interacted' with. Why not allow civilians to commit crimes and you can talk to the head guard in any town and he'll give you a list of every crime. You can put guards on crimes which costs money and increases happiness or you can do it yourself. Maybe even an option for "example: the culprit had a bushy mustache and a funny accent" ...an option to round up every man in the city with a bushy mustache and funny accent and you can kill allllllllllllllllll of them brutal dictatorship or you can talk to each one individually.

Re: Artificial Intelligence
I think that improving the AI would be great. However I am not sure if the 360 could handle that. I heard the AI of the dog pushed the 360 almost to its limits. Of course I am not a dev so could be completely wrong. I hope I am wrong because this is exactly what, a game like fable needs.
I think we will see a huge jump in AI by the next gen of gaming consoles. Not much farther most games can really push the graphics. Not saying graphics are perfect but they are still pretty great, and I would rather see game play improved over graphics at this point. So it seems likely that things like AI and load times will be what game developers try working on.
I know people have mixed feeling about Milo, but I think that being able to just talk to an npc is amazing. I don't know how well Milo works right now, but I am guessing that it is the biggest attempt to develop the ability for better AI in gaming history. It is likely that as soon as consoles can handle it, they will use the programming methods from Milo for standard npc's in a lot of different games. What do you think? Will we have to wait until the new consoles come out for better npc's?

When I nuked Megaton in Fallout 3 I killed kids, but the game was only rated M. ![Dead [:notalive:]](/emoticons/dead.gif) EDIT: More like vaporized them, but same difference.

Re: Artificial Intelligence
alexisrose:There are alot of ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) ideas in this thread on getting more of a variety in villagers, not only in looks but in the way they act. I also like the idea of bandit attacks on places, I could see smaller villages but not cities. And I can understand that they do not want to have to increase the rating for the game, they want to make it be available to a larger group.
The difference between M and AO is 17 to 18. Not really that much bigger of a group. But yes I can't ever see them going for an AO rating, and it will never happen anyway. People like to cry and complain over anything they can, including the age difference of 1 year. ![Dead [:notalive:]](/emoticons/dead.gif) I heard the rumor that Fable 3 is going to be rated T for teen this time around. Instead of sex they have hug and feels.

It is a bigger group, for precisely the reason Glen said; many stores won't carry AO games, but will carry M games. So the age group might not be much bigger, but the group of people exposed to the game will be.
(That said, you can kill kids in Deus Ex: IW, and that's only rated M. Just sayin'.)

Couldn't you make a mature rated game and then make free dlc that would make the game an AO rating? That way the stores would still carry it while it is a mature rated game and the rest would be given to us online. I don't really care about killing kids. I have just been wandering if you could get away with it.

Brilliant. Thats exactly what I was picturing. It's hard to think of brightwood as a "real" area.. I mean, the bandits spawn in the same places, just standing in the middle of no-where. I'd like to see bandits act as humans too. No doubt, they are animals, but what happened to bandit personality other than "I KILL YOU"?
Glad to see people are agreeing with the random event idea Would add alot more excitment/suspense to the game. ![Up []](/emoticons/icon14.gif)
I can just imagine some currupt guards sorting their profits in a hidden area in Bowerstone. (you know that place you can only get to by diving into the river? - some secret spot like that.) I can just imagine them offering to give you some gold if you shut up about it, or you could kill them and reveal their plans to the village. Some of the village may not beleive you. Thats exactly what I'm talking about. Everytime I commit a crime, EVERYONE hates me. There isn't a soul that enjoys my deeds. Where's the diversity in personality!? And I kill villagers in front of bandits, they don't even ask me to join them ![Tired [:tired:]](/emoticons/tired.gif)
