It seems Eljawa that you've got more on the line with this issue than just your opinion. Keep in mind here that we're not saying "it's okay to hate Muslims" and neither is Rushdie. One of my favorite books of all time is called "The Anti-Christ", it's not fiction either, it's philosophy and manifesto. Yet some of the closest people to my heart are Christians and I would never advocate hatred against Christians (though, like Rushdie, I may advocate deconstruction of the institution).
We're not trying to offend you Eljawa, but Rushdie is brilliant. These people who want his head gotta calm the hell down.
I'm not a muslim if that's what you're implying. Rushdie being "brilliant" has - and this one of the few Brit slang phrases that doesn't sound mildly retarded - Fvck all to do with anything. Celine Dion has a "brilliant" voice. If she came out with a song called "N!ggers are too black" would black people say "Well, it is a catchy tune!"?
People keep harping on how Muslims aren't as tolerant of criticism of their religion as others. No sh!t. This has been established... And all the talk about terrorism and innocent bystanders is irrelevant. That's just how they do things. They believe the defense of their way of life is worth their lves and any life that happens to get in the way. Considering the civilian casualties the West and West-backed Israel have inflicted on Arabs, it's not hard to see why they place little value on human life in times of conflict. Oh, but those are just "accidents". The Western public can't handle the thought of willfully attacking civilians. It has nothing to do with disrespecting their most sacred beliefs for shock value and cheap laughs.
