Re: Please Sign the Petition: To fix the Death System in Fable 2

@toddquest: The fault bit was a joke. You see it as needlessly wasting your time. That's fine. I see it as an incenctive not to die in the first place. I suppose we have different views on what a game over is though. I'm not entirely sure how you see it, but for me, it's like an ending in a choose your own adventure book. The hero does indeed die. That doesn't stop me from going back and seeing what happens if I make a different choice though. Anyway, the point is, the fact that you don't gain as much doesn't matter, since as far as combat is concerned, you don't need anything you gain.

A petition is just asking. Petition: a formal, written request made to an official person or organized body, often containing many signatures.

I liked that part of D&D. Made me really feel as if I was the character. The possibility of true death made you play more cautiously, right? Now, I don't think full death is a G o o d [Good] idea in a video game, but in D&D it made me think things through and also made close calls all the more exciting. To a lesser degree, that's what game overs do.

For how far back, opinions will differ. Personally, the entrance to the area is what I'd like, or if during a quest, right outside the area where it officially begins. Anywhere up thirty-minutes back is fine with me though. Up to an hour or two is still better than the current death system, though not preferred. These are my personal preferences anyway.

I've said many times why reloading isn't a very G o o d [Good] option for me. Manually choosing to die everytime I fall ruins the immersion almost as much as the current death system.

(I'll point out why I don't want permanent death in videogames. The main storyline in a tabletop game, provided you've got a G o o d [Good] game master, is never the same for a new character, or if you're playing with a group, you don't have to redo everything. That's not true with videogames)

You can have a hook for a hand though. It might be a bit painful, and you may end up in a mental hospital once you get it, but you could do it. If you mean be born with a hook for a hand though, it's a bit late for that. Really, I don't see how the analogy works though. If you could explain it, that'd be wonderful.

That depends on how far back you're sent. Assuming the worst, that's still preferable for me. It all comes down to the individual anyway. Even if most gamers do that, do you think most will turn on the game over option. If the majority don't want the option, then what most would do isn't a concern. It's what those who want the option would do. If we have the majority, then implementing the option, regardless of what most would do, is a G o o d [Good] idea.

@cobaltblu: Challenge isn't my issue. Immersion is.... Well, that's not entirely true. I care about challenge, I just care a lot more about Immersion.

I think we're viewing the death system differently though. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you see it as getting up so you can run somewhere safe. You can keep fighting though. You can go ahead and fight until you fall, get up, and keep fighting until' the enemy dies. It's not the burst of energy that's the issue. It's the fact that you can keep damaging your enemies, whittling away their health, as they continue to knock you down for you to get right back up again to attack them.

@Warrick983: We're asking for a patch to be released after the game comes out. I don't want them to delay the game anymore then you do.

*edit* Fixed a grammar thing and added to explanation of not wanting perma death
