    Story,story,story!

Hello everyone, I've been here a fair while but I don't really post that much, more of a lurker. Stick out tongue [:P] Anyway...

When I first heard that Fable 3 was going to be released and to top it off, so soon, many things ran through my mind, joy, trepidation, curiosity etc. I've been a massive fan of the Fable franchise since it's inception, the original being my favourite game and while I thought the second one could of been better I still enjoyed the game a huge amount, but, one thing I think really needs to be addressed is the story.

The whole idea of Fable is to transmit emotion to the player through tough choices tied to strong stories and characters, to make you care for the world. Which is why the stories so far in the series (Fable 2 specifically) puzzle me as they are both weak in narrative and character development.

To use another game as an example, Mass Effect. You get to know characters through numerous coversations and bonding through tackling various missions together while you find out even more about the said character. A connection is created and you begin to care about the said character. So when it came to making decisions involving these characters it was tough. You just didn't get this from Fable because the majority of the characters you just didn't care about.

If you actually think about Fable 2, how many choices actually affect characters you care about ?

Most of the main cast doesn't have enough backstory, personality or even screentime to make you care about them. Decisions usually involve random NPC's that you know will never appear again and demand no real attention. I mean if your being brutally honest, the final decision in Fable 2 has no real affect on anything. You can earn a million pounds in a few hours, you can bring back your dog and saving the people albion does nothing really. Why should I care ?

I think if Fable 3 could produce a fantastic narrative with genuinly involving characters and tie decisions into those characters then us as gamers would feel much more involvement and emotion when making the said decisions.

I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks, including the dev team ?

Post with respect to Lionhead of course, keep up the G o o d [Good] work fella's. Up []
