Ive been trying to make Animations recently and the modeling is going fine and so is the texuring but whats really dragging me down at the moment is getting life like models (human, animals) to move properly ive been using armatures in Blender (the program I use becuase its free) to pose them and get them to move but I carnt get it to work very well, For instance If I move the leg his abdomen sort of inplodes and moving the arm will make it go really big and parts of it disapear. Ive notced alot of others dont have this problem Fable 2 didnt seem to any way and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how to get them to work properly becuase this is the stepping stone for my animations at the moment and its starting to fustrate.

I know getting a real reply from the devs is very hard as there very busy most of the time but I really do need help with this as its really dragging my animations behind.

Environment Creation

Hi all, here is the low down, I'm going through my last year of college and I'm off to uni next year, so this year I want to build up a portfolio for 3d games design, so I need to know what programs I should be using. Anu

Fel64

Solar

These are the guys who made the sigs. The artists of ESA.
Not all of them are active, and many of them might not be as enthusiastic about making sigs anymore, so sig requests may be processed very slowly - please be patient with us. Those who are active and willing have their names in green (hopefully all will be in green eventually), and those who might help are in orange; the rest are inactive for now.

The format for a Signature Request is simple: Just make a post asking for a sig, giving us as much information as possible so that we can make your sig.

Size:
Always mention what size you want. If you do not mention what size you want your signature to be, we will make it 468 x 60 pixels (the old LH standard).

As we don't want a whole bunch of massive sigs on LH, we will be reluctant to make anything much larger than the standard. 500 x 65 pixels is probably the largest we will go (which was the standard for ESA). Any sig you would like made for LH will either be standard size (468 x 60), large (500 x 65), or smaller than the standard size.

Avatars for LH will be anything smaller than 100 x 100 (obviously) as that is the maximum size Avatar.

Anything you would like made for another forum/site can be any size you want, but it must be specified in your Request Post.

Animation:
A few of the guys would argue that animation instantly decreases the quality of a sig, and that all sigs should be still; which gives a better effect. And a few of the Team Members will not make animated sigs - for various reasons.

If you do want an animated sig you must mention it in your post. You might have to wait quite a while for one of the members who are willing to do animated sigs to read your post - and to actually make the sig. Just know that when we eventually do make animated sigs, they are done very well.

Content:
Obviously, you need to mention what you want your sig to look like. This includes a name that you would like on your sig, any phrases, the background, the effects, pictures, etc..

Very often people are unsure of what they want (or they just don't care about the details), in this case, you can leave it up to the artist. Just specify the basics of what you want and we'll come up with something based on what you asked for. Some times the artists will even change what you asked for by his own discretion. Usually when he thinks that the sig is lacking something, and his change will better the image.

An example of what you can ask for is the following:
"I want a sig with a Mafia baby on it. He must be drinking or smoking, or something. And I want my username on it (Monde)."
Note that no background image was specified, and the description is very vague. This is fine. We will make a sig and ask your opinion, show you more, and eventually we will come up with an end result:

Member:
You may also ask specific members to make you a sig if you like their work.
I will try find a way to create a portfolio for each of the members in
the future.

Just include - in your post - that you would like that person to make your sig, or perhaps PM them the request instead. Please don't just PM members from the list randomly. Only if you can see that they are active in this thread (the members who's names are green, or possibly orange as well) may you ask or PM that member.

Right, so that's how to make a request.

Please don't come to us and ask for a new movie poster every week. Some of the members probably won't even make you a single movie poster even if you ask nicely, but none will make you one if you're just going to use it for a week and never again afterwards - that's just a waste of artwork, and our time.

Finally, please give credit to the ESA for making your sig in some way. Linking your sig to this thread, or simply saying "Sig by ESA" at the top or bottom of your sig will suffice. And maybe even give credit to the Artist who made your sig, so anyone who likes that sig can come ask the same person to make them one.

Alright then. Let's begin the requests! I've been itching to make a sig for a while now.

Disclaimer: Everything in this post can be changed whenever and however I like, and I am not responsible for anything even if it is directly linked to this thread.

The photography thread

I hunted through here for a photography thread but couldn't find one, so I decided to start my own.

An understanding of photography can be a real bonus for people working in all other art and creative fields, particularly 3D design. The underlying principle of photography is light and understanding how light works is also one of the keys to creating realistic 3D objects and environments. So the first two photos I've posted here rely on light in a very obvious way, while the third one is more related to depth of field. If you've created a scene in 3D, but find it seems flat and "not quite right", then think about your use of lighting and depth of field.

Although I've kind of focussed on the relation between photography and 3D design, feel free to post any photos here - artistic, photojournalistic, whatever - 'cause I'm sure we can get something out of it.

I know he used Corel Painter, and uses the digital watercolor brushes. And it looks to me that he starts out with a greyscale painting then adds color. (Seen in this concept art http://www.lionhead.com/Fable2/artwork/femchar02_800.jpg) I've tried working this process into my painting, and here is the result of my attempt: http://jenlmae.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/dogdraw_jenl-50.jpg. Note, this was a drawing I got here in the F2 concept art.
I've been in love with the art of the Fable franchise since Fable 1, and would love to learn about some of the work that goes into making it. A video of Mike McCarthy painting would be as as gold to me! Anyone have any suggestions or resources? Or a way to contact the man himself?
I'm an art student looking into getting into the gaming industry, mostly as an environment artist and doing 3D modeling. I'm always looking for ways to improve and watching other artists work is a great way to learn and put into practice some new techniques.
Thank you!

Some weapons that should have been legendary in Fable 2

Names of the hammers are links to videos.
Here are some weapon Ideas I would have loved in Fable 2. First is the hammers.

Hammer Of Nord:
The Hammer Of Nord has many legends surrounding its history but really Its just the hammer of a legendary Viking warrior. It is said that The Hammer Of Nord has been embued with the power of being really badass looking.

Omega Hammer:
The Omega Hammer was forged with no other intention than to be a lightweight effective weapon for combat. Fortunately the hammer smith crafted the Omega hammer so well it resonates like a tuning fork and is said to hypnotize enemies and slow them down dropping their defenses.

Hammer Of Twisted Lightning:
As are many legends they are sung with embelishment. This hammer is no acception. Many have said the HOTL has been augmented with the force of lightning. However the hammer smith sings a different tale. It like the omega was crafted purely for aesthetic purposes, although, while the red hot hammer fresh from the forge was cooling outside, a storm blew over and the hammer was struck by lightning, due to the state of the hammer when struck it retained a great amount of electric charge.

What about the Hobbes? Recently she was offered to have her work displayed in a small gallery near my town.

The thing is, she would love to earn a living with her work, but she feels she isnt enough, as well as being put on a contract would "force" her to create artwork she might not be inspired to draw. A couple of her friends as well as myself are trying to convince her to start doing artwork for computergames. Blizzard, Lionhead studios, any developer that uses rather "dark" designs. She turned down an offer from a developer years back, and she has some regrets about that now (long story short she has a few problems in her personal life and could use the income and such).

In anycase, I have her permission to show some of her work, but I would rather not do this on a "public" site. Call me paranoid, I am . But I would like to know if there is an email adress I could submit those works to, OR if there is someone from the character design team on these forums who would be willing to check out a few of her sketches.
blender 3d and python

hey guys... i recently have been trying my hand at 3d design, and decided to use blender 3d, now i have been told that you need to use a program called python, i have downloaded it 3 times now and i keep getting error messages saying python not detected, am i missing sumthing ?
Fable2Square

Hey guys! Im new here,

Allow me to introduce myself while Im at it.

My name is Nnjaa, my xbox live gamertag is also Nnjaa. My real name is Glenn, and I live in The Netherlands, thusly my primary language is Dutch, and secondary English. I am 19 years old. I work at an IT company, being a system manager, full-time.

However, Im always busy with sites and stuff, and I decided to make a Fable 2 fan site, named: Fable2Square.com .. I program in these languages: HTML, XHTML, DHTML, CSS, PHP, and last but not least, MysQL. I have 8 years of experience within Photoshop.

And I don't know if this is the right forum to post this. Please move this topic if I did post it wrong. And if it isn't allowed. Please tell me..

I made a begin for Fable2Square.com.

The complete layout has been made with php, with includings, and css of course. As you can see the site is still underconstruction! But that's the reason why Im here in the first place.

I need aid upon my quest to the best fable 2 site. Yes, BEST! Haha.. Ha-a?
