There's a similar thread, but I don't think a generator is what I'm looking for. I've been using Finale Notepad, since it's free it has some limitations (i.e. only 8 staffs, no tempo change in the middle, no anacrusis). Before I go and Buy Finale '09 I thought I'd check here first. My requirements are pretty much:

Traditional Western Notation, not Piano Roll or graphic notation.
Comes with samples, or emulation at least. Various non-orchestral/wind instruments (i.e. Electric Guitar, Synthesizer, various atypical drums, etc) would be a plus (just in case).
Pick-ups/Grace notes.
Ability to mark up tempo in the middle, with accelerandos and ritardandos etc.
Articulation and dynamics that are also emulated when you have it play.
Turns and other ornaments.
Able to be condensed into a MIDI or MP3 of some sort.
Key and Time Signature changes.

Some things I'd like but are unnecessary in the long run:
Able to input via pitch reading, either from a cable from an electric keyboard or a microphone (i.e. play a flute into a microphone and have it scribe while you do that).

Checking for parallel fifths, octaves and such. I know it doesn't matter if it sounds , but if somethings off it would be a great tool to see if that's the issue.

Ability to generate an RNA (Roman Numeral Analysis) of your work, preferably also pick up on mode changes, but that's asking a bit much probably. It's not necessary, but it's kind of cool to know the chord progression if you weren't thinking about it at the time (I usually do but sometimes I just write).

There are obviously tons of programs that fit the main requirements, but if there are any composers here that can recommend any that are really /haven't failed you yet I'd appreciate it. I'm composing music for an idie game and Notepad worked as a lower-level theory student last year, but as a game designer/composer that's doing more elaborate stuff it just doesn't cut it anymore.

Does any one know were I can get any free ware music generators, I need them for my animations, What I want to do is create my own music scores, but I can't read or write music and I don't play any musical instruments, I have a guitar but I started guitar at age nine and gave up guitar at age nine so I'm no at it lol.

I just don't want to take the other option either, going out and finding some generic royalty free songs, nor do I want to hire or ask some one to do it for me as this animation isn't going to bring in any profit and it may never be made until I can sort out some major problems so I don't want some one else wasting his time in vain, plus I like doing these things on my own so if I don't like it I can simply change it without insulting any one.

Now I'm not 100% sure if its a music generator I'm after, it's a Ejay type program maybe its a sounds database I don't know but my question is could someone help me find a free program that can do what I need it to do, I've searched but I can't find anything.

when i ever travel somewhere or when im in an outpost from time to time an irish bandit will start taunting me just as you do before you fight a near enemy. He will make threats and when i try to find him he is nowhere(like a narrator from above) to be found he is everywhere at first i though it would go away but now its super annoying. Also another bug is when i stand still feet side by side my sword will wiggle as if it was follow the move of the heroes stretch. These two bugs are very annoying and they take away the expierence of the game.

it would be awesome if you could fix this in the next patch!!

Does anyone else have this?

For those of you with an Xbox 360 and a LIVE connection, please check out Retro One, which has been published to Xbox Live under the Community Games banner.

If you haven't guessed from the title, I was the sound designer for the project, and am currently beavering away at sounds for the studio's (Well.... bedroom really ) next title.

I didnt actually play it until it was released due to platform compatibility issues (*cough* IhasMac *cough*) but its actually a pretty decent side-scrolling shooter. For those of a wary, or non-xbox owning disposition, here is a short video made in the middle of development.

I just thought Id share this with you, LH community, although I suppose this is the end to my trilogy of 'Shameless Self Promoting' threads.

Just a small question for the development team, Im currently making a medivel based 3D animation, that I may (if I ever get it finished) be posting on youtube, I just want to know if I have permision to use the fable soundtrack in the animtation being that I will not be profiting from the animation.

OK, so I finally got over my fear of being critically panned and have decided to finally let my music roam free and be slagged off by random people rather than just my Mum. Its only a MySpace, but you can hear my brain excrement and that is the main thing. Song genres vary, from metal, to electronica, to pure but Weavers Tale is inspired by a certain game by a certain developer.... Here it is Opinions other than "It zucks" will be appreciated....

Notation and scoring.

In today's world of electronically synthesyzed orchestras, does a composer for the games industry still use notation often?
How often are real orchestras used instead of their midi counterparts and if a real orchestra is used, does the composer get to work with the orchestra himself?
Does Russell Shaw have training as a conductor?
Is using a real orchestra considered too costly in a lot of game productions or has it become standard?

A lot of questions for a single post.

OK, so one of my final uni projects was to create music and all the sound effects for two videos: a film clip and a short animation. The film clip I did was the famous Psycho 'shower scene', and the animation....... I'll leave that as a surprise

I had awesome fun with the sound effect creation, all the foley sounds were created using a dynamic microphone (NOT a idea!) and inventive use of household objects!

plug-ins? For Audacity, I need more imput please.

Plug-ins? Im running a dell 3000 witch I filled it full of steroids, I installed Audacity and it works fine,changing voices not to complicated,yet alot more for me to learn. I just want to be able to do female voices if this is possible, Would any of the plug-ins from Audacity help this issue? I see differnt plug-ins and wouldnt know witch is better or what they do,or which to choose, Or is the Audacity beta better?Or a different program, and by the way my wife isnt to interested in sitting in front of a mic for the vo,she laughs to much,And I refuse to stand behind a horse just to get a higher pitch. Thanks for any info, I did look plugins under search but didnt help.
