Beginners Hamachi Network

Hi
I'm fairly new to the game.
As you may or may not know most people on Hamachi are quite at this game. So its a bit hard for a newbie to start playing. So i created a server called:

Network: B&WBeginners

So if you are new and not very at this game you can play others who are new and not very too!
I hope to see you there.

By the way I'm online now so i will play anyone who challenges me

Well just wondering with talks and rumours that mp in BW2 may actually be an expansion, will we see the rise of the old skool clans. Will the flags of EoE rise again? The war drums of Radiant beat once more? The Screams of power hungry deamons reap from Deapths of Hell? Or the Titians of TsT be seen again? Will the clans once again struggle to make their mark on the world of BnW and how will you fair with the new clans that may come along aswell. This much is certain, if mp does come out. TsT will rise once again. So how about it? Any of the old clan leaders gonna reboot and kicksome ass??

How to use Hamachi *Windows XP

This tutorial is for you Windows XP users that can not see anyone in game using hamachi and is/are also having any type of hamachi problem!

If you are having any hamachi problems...

...Like you not seeing anyone at all or nearly at all in the LAN lobby.. This is how you solve that problem.

Do the following in order:

Click: Start

Click: Control Panel

Click: Network & Internet Connections. OR w/e... Its something like that.

Click: Network Connections

...Now a new window should have came up orrrr it should have just took you there.

...To Network connections

Near the Directory you should see an Advanced button...

Click it than click: Advanced Settings.

A new window should appear.

You should see two lists.

One will be at the top and other at the bottom of the window.

You should see "Hamachi" in the top list and an up and down arrow on the sides.

Click Hamachi that is in the list than click the up button till hamachi is at the top of the list and is your top priority network!

Once your done doing that click Apply & Ok.

It should ask you if you want to restart your computer.

Click YES

If it doesnt manually restart your computer, go into the LAN lobby to play a game with your buddies and woola!

Once you do all this you should be ready and be able to play.

I recently got BLack and white and, after figuring out how to play it, i decided to go on the internet to get an account.
However the B&W website has changed to here so i can't create something so I can get onto the internet
Did anyone else have that problem and if so, HOw do you get a password, is it your email?

Saving a Multiplayer game

Hi,

yesterday a friend and i played Black & White 1 Multiplayer via Hamachi.
everything worked well
but it seems that you can´t save a Multiplayer game.

so my questions are 1. are there any mods or patches which allow me to save a
mp game or does it work with Creatures Isle?

I made a couple new hamachi networks.

B&WActive2
(no pass)

And

B&W-Now-Playing
Pass: play

Active filled, so I made a second one More importantly I made B&W-Now-Playing

Basically this new network will be so that when you are available and ready to play a game you join the now playing network, then after your game (basically when you log off hamachi/your name goes grey) I will kick you from the network. This way all players from every network can group up when they want to play a game.

Remember, ONLY join B&W-Now-Playing when you are ready for a game!

ok people please help me out .. I and my friend want to play B&W via LAN via Hamachi ... we got both the same patch (1.2) he plays on XP and I on vista but we both cannot host any game ... I tried the thing about putting hamachi on the toplist of my networkcenter list (I hope youknow what I mean) but that doesnt work ... anny suggestions please help

Can/Can't Host, Time to solve.

I am trying to locate the elusive source of this Can Host Can't Host problem.
Any information people have can/will be helpful.

AKA, OS, Router(Y/N), Ports Forwarded, Firewall?, can you see people in the lobby, can people in the lobby see you, and anything else you think may be of any help at all.

I need information from both the people that can and the people that cant. If you can't you really should provide information should I be able to find a fix. If you can, well help those who can't out and provide the info anyways, besides-aren't you tired of always hosting?

If there is anyone from lionhead that may have a idea on this any information would be useful.

Ok, I was going to make a quick site to put this stuff on, but I really can't be bothered with any sort of site design, so I'll put it all here.

All ports mentioned in this article are TCP.

What is BW Phoenix?

BW Phoenix is a program that enables you to play people across the internet on Black and White by using the LAN interface built into the game

Why this? Can't I use a fake LAN?
Fake LANs aren't that for this sort of purpose really, some of them will work, but they will be slow as they all have to route every single bit of data. BW Phoenix only routes the data it needs to, and enables the game to make a direct connection with other clients. This means you get a lag free game experience, and are able to change certain Black and White specific parameters.

Having said that, if you haven't got an existing LAN connection, if you install hamachi, you can tell bw to use the network interface hamachi gives to you, then use my program to seek other game clients in LAN without connecting anywhere.

Who can run it?
Anyone who has a network adapter - black and white needs to see one in order to let you in to the internal lan interface. You can probably use a program to fake one.

Great, where do I get it?
You can download the client from here, and the lobby server from here. It is advised that you read below in order to find out how to use them. It may seem like a lot, but its a really simple process once you start using it.

Pre-Requisites:

Microsoft .NET Framework
You need to get this installed in order to run either the server or the client, so head over there and get it sorted!

Game version 1.2
You can get that from http://www.kayssplace.com

Hosting
To run the lobby server, you need the port 6012 forwarded To host a game after connecting to a lobby, you need the ports 6014 and 2612 forwarded. See http://www.portforward.com for more information on that. You do NOT need to forward any ports in order to JOIN an existing game.

Connection
You must have a connection using some sort of LAN interface, and your connection speed must be greater than 256k. I cannot code around this limitation, its just the way the game works. (Thankyou Daniel Deptford for getting that piece of information to me )

Ok then, so how do I use it?

First extract whichever it is you are using to a folder somewhere, so the dll is in the same folder as the exe. That is all the installation process requires.

The client

Ok, not going into great detail, but the main steps to getting a game started are:

Find someone running a lobby server, or run one yourself ( See below )
Type their IP into the box
If you have certain ports forwarded ( 6014 and 2612) you can check the box to 'enable hosting'
Click Connect

This starts off the program and it will hopefully have connected to the server. If not, then check the settings and try again.

The Next Step.
Load up Black and White and enter the 'Local Game' area once its loaded. This should bring you to a lobby screen.

Now, this is important. Someone needs to have checked that box to enable hosting. It basically makes you visible to the other people who have connected.

If you are hosting, you may not see anyone in the lobby, you just have to wait for someone else to come along and do the process below.

To start a game, you just click on that person, and select 'join game' down the bottom right.

This brings you to the chat area, where you can talk to the other players in the game, and set the winning conditions. When everything is to your satisfaction, click the 'ready' button if you're not hosting, and click 'start' if you are hosting. The game should then start.

If the game is to crash then, the person who's game you joined hasn't forwarded their ports correctly. Yell at them very loudly and tell them off for being idiots.

The Lobby Server

Ok, the lobby server. The lobby server is what all the clients connect to, and it routes all the messages around after modifying them. You need port 6012 forwarded to run the lobby server.

IMPORTANT: If you connect to your own lobby server, make sure to use your external IP address as the server IP - get that from here - , not your local network one. People will not be able to see you if you don't do this. This is also the IP you give other people.

The Server is simple to run once you have your ports forwarded. Just click 'Start Server' and people will be able to connect, assuming you have forwarded your ports correctly.

I'm sure in time other people will write a better guide, because I'm a coder, not an FAQ writer, and I'll replace this with the one they write.

Planned updates:

Use the lobby server as a forwarder, so you don't need to forward ports to host a game
Add the ability to change your name before you log in
Fix any stability problems people bring to light now I've released it
Enable the transfer of maps between connected clients
Anything else I can think of while I'm working on this.

Someone feel free to write a better version of this and I'll paste it over, I'm very tired.

Make sure to check frequently for new versions, as its a long way from being completely done as of yet.

Update!

BW Phoenix 1.1 is now released.

Find the updated client and lobby at the usual location.

I've added an option, so if you can't connect to your own server, you can connect to 127.0.0.1 and override the IP the server allocates to you - write in your external IP to the optional textbox.

Expect 1.2 to have full routing capabilities and the ability to set your name!

Ok, seeming as I'm back at uni, despite that I've got about 100 lines of code to write before 1.2 is done ( no kidding, it was really that close when I stopped working on it a month or two ago ), I don't have time to finish it.

However, I said I was going to set up a contact thread where people could exchange MSN/Email addresses and organise games via Phoenix.

So, post here if you want to be added. The format goes as follows, post your address(es) and state whether you are able to host or not.

I'll add you to the master list at the end of this post and hopefully you lot can get your game of BW

Phoenix development is suspended, not cancelled - I'll do it in december when I have a month off uni - I just don't have time right now

How is the online play in this?

I think the idea of live online play and working with other players or fighting other players and letting my creature play with or fight other players' creatures in real time sounds awesome.

Is it like that? Is it sandbox style? Is it and makes it even more worth getting Black and White instead of Black and White 2?

Ok me and a friend have been trying to host a lan game for Black&White, but we cant figure it out, i have checked the fourm and other fourms and done what they said and i still cant host, how do you host a game with Hamachi? this is frustraing, frist i had to patch the game spent a while doing that, now i cant get the Lan thing to work, plz plz help!

How to use hamachi On Vista

Some people seem to think that its impossible to find people in a game through hamachi on Vista.....

Well, It isn't!

Do the following and you'll have proof! :::

First, Click start and goto Control Panel.

Then, Click Network and Internet.

After that, click Network & Sharing Center.

Than right after you do that, on the left side click: Manage network connections!

After doing that press while your in the window that you just opened press ALT and click Advanced>Advanced Settings....

Right after that, You'll see two lists.

One at the top and one at the bottom!

Click on Hamachi at the top list and press the up button until its at the top!

Than simply restart your computer and play the game!

I always just assumed that it was just creature battles, though after reading comments here it seems that there may have been something more...

Currently I am on hamachi networks black&whiteworld 1 and 2, but its rare to actually get a game going here. Well, maybe if I stay all day preparing a game, but I dont have that much free time

So anyone knows how to increase my chances? The faster a game can be going the better, since im not even sure of the average lenght of a Black & White online match yet

By the way, can the host save multiplayer games so the involved players continue later?

first of all some credit of this post goes to gamejammer because he taught me how to do this but ima summarize it all up in one post but anyway here we go.

you are prolly wondering what hamachi is. Quick answer is a VPN (Virtual Private Network) well now you're wondering wtf is that. it basicly turns Internet into LAN (Local Area Network) or creates a small room that is linked by all computers through hamachi.

now to download it you can get from this following link : https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/list.asp

I strongly recomend you get the version for you OS (Operating System)

once you download it it will send you through a small Tutorial on how to create/join network groups. (for joining groups you're better off asking people for em because im not to sure how many are made for B&W)

but a simple one i made is network: Gamersvault Password: GV for most of my friends and to help people etc...

please if you have a B&W network with open spaces please show it in here.

now after you done all that you can go and edit the way you want hamachi to run through prefences and stuff.

now how to host and join games:

this part cant get tricky (not hard at all) but with time we can get it done

Go into Control Panel,

From there goto Network & Internet Connections

Then Network Connections...

("A new window should appear")

Then at the top of the new window, next to the blue bar click advanced, then advanced settings.

After that a new window will appear,

"There should be a list"

Click on hamachi in the network connection list.

Click the up arrow till hamachi is at the top.

And click apply it should ask you if you want to restart so the new settings start to work...

If it doesnt manually restart.

well thats the best way i see it.

it dosnt bother me if a mod wants to make it a sticky then do it.
