You may find that everyone having this problem in this thread might all have something in common... And heres a hint... Its not the the locking up problem itself.

Something I've discovered might also be a issue for your consoles... Some of these problems may occur because your Xbox 360 might not have a "Built-in Hard Drive."

Elites have been reported to be scratching disc's

And older model "Hard Drives" are also reported to act up on newer Xbox 360's that play the game. (Taking your old Hard Drive out of a 05-06 model Xbox 360 and putting it on a 07-08 )

For the time being, the closest thing to ficing the situation is burning the disk to your harddrive... it sucks and I hated every second it took me to do it and STILL am disgusted that it is taking up 6.8GB of my 20G HDD .

Mine locked up whenever it felt like it.. beginning, couple minutes into it, 20 minutes in... just whenever it pleased.

I can honestly say that, if they don't patch it soon (at least at the same time they release the DLC for it) then I am done with Lionhead games. It USED to run great.. then the update came that ruined everything.

*shakes head* Just burn it to HDD for now man... if they don't resolve the issue, just join me in not buying another Lionhead game.

With that said, I feel a need to say that every single game that comes out has issues of one form or another... I understand that 100% and don't look down on a company for having a glitch in their product. What I DO look down on is press release after press release and site update after site update talking all about their new DLC coming for the game when they should be keeping us informed as to whether they even know if the issue has been resolved on their side and they are just waiting for a release date... or if they have no idea what is causing it. Hell, tell us SOMETHING.

You go to the forums, they say visit the blog, you read the blog, it mentions the forums.. alot of DISinformation going around and I just cannot recall a company I have dealt with playing those kind of games.

How about Fable2.com posting a giant intro graphic saying "BROKEN: CLICK HERE FOR INFO" lol

We treated ourselves to an XBOX this xmas and purchased Fable2 for my wife as she finished the pc version and wanted to play the next part on the xbox. We have been trying since boxing day to get past the first part in the game but cannot as it always locks up.
If thete is not a fix from lionhead soon we will be returning it to game and getting a full refund and quoting the sales of s act 1983 that has now been updated and I suggest that everyone else does the same.

Lets see what happens

I read the official Xbox site and it says :

"If you do not have a memory unit, deleting the game cache removes your progress in the game, high scores, and other information."

This sucks.. I rented F2 for a couple weeks after it came out and it ran fine and I fell in love... then I didn't rent it for a long time since I figured I would get it for Xmas and they update it to a non-working version... and then Xmas comes and I get it but cannot play it. WTF ???

I want a refund from Lionhead... THEY made it unplayable, THEY should be accountable

Its the update process that is to blame (as well as money men!). Never used to get games released that have as many bugs, but its now the easy option to get it out and then fix it later attitude. I feel sorry for those who have bought this and not get internet, how do they get it fixed?

Its interesting out of the 30 people online on my friends list not one is playing this game now. That tells its own story for me.

I've got those same issues here too. Scratching disc, like it's always reading. In a fight if i shoot with my crossbow, all i can do after is look around with the camera. This really suck and lionhead should adress this issue ASAP

damn this game shouldn't have been released this early it has way to many bugs that still need to be worked out the problem in my game is my guy won't even move i can only push start warp places even die and i still am stuck like glue on the damn floor if anyone knows how to undo this awful glitch please help!!!

Put the game in and tried to start a New Game. Locked. Disk maintanance didn't work either. I'm trying to figure out why I can't play a brand new game I just purchased. This sucks.

Me too, not a happy bunny. I got all the way to bloodstone and about to enter the cave to see the pirate.

Game has not crashed, it still loads, but graphics don't load correctly and if I enter the menu it takes forever and does not load all of it. Cleared cache and made no difference. If anything the loading screen seems to crash now!!!

Not sure what to do now, send it back or wait for a patch? Anyone? Took tomorrow off work too to play it!

Update, removed hard drive, put in memory card and another profile. Locked up on market cut scene after bird. So looks like its the disc. This may be as when I got it first thing I noticed was disc noise was far too loud, sounded like drive was taking off!!

I'm having a (worse?) variation of this same problem. After finishing the first adult mission (island tomb) I saved and quit the game. The next day when I loaded the game, after the LionHead logo comes up, the screen goes white and it just locked up there on the white screen. I deleted my save games and tried again, but same thing.

I tried the Y,X,X,LB,RB,X,X option, but it did not solve the problem. Now, it gets past the LionHead logo and I get the Fable II title screen. After I press A, the music dies, but I get the startup screen. When I select "New Game" it just locks up for . Any option I pick from this menu locks up. Suffice it to say I'm quite angry and frustrated. I tried applying the patch again and it does the same thing still. Sadly I didn't keep my receipt either so I'm not sure what to do at this point because I'm stuck with a $60 coaster.

An update to my original problem. I was able to get the game to start up again after taking the disk out, and putting it back in a few times. Since then I encountered the problem again after a later point in the game saving by the demon door in Rookridge. After doing some trial and error, I've found that the lock up occurs if I choose the "Save and Quit" option, but not if I choose "Save and Continue" and then just shut off my X-Box. I am obviously only doing the latter now. I've been checking out a lot of other postings both here and on other forums about problems with the game. Sounds like this one got pushed out the door a little too early. It's too bad because otherwise it's a fantastic game.

I gave this a try with no luck. I did the maintenance and did not download the update. When I try to enter bloodstone my game still freezes during the load screen.

Gamestop said they will give me a new disk but I can't find my receipt.

Thank you so much! I found your post when I googled the problem I was having with Fable 2. Completely fixed my problem! I thought something was wrong with my xbox.

Keep in mind this will delete all updates for all games, which is no big deal you just pop in the game you want to play and redownload the update. Also YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY CO-OP ON LIVE WITHOUT THE UPDATE OR EVEN BE ONLINE WHILE PLAYING FABLE2. But that is a small price to pay for not losing all your progress. Dont worry, all your content downloads will be intact. Hope this helps.
