yea i did reinstall it with the new disk. i am trying to get the drivers updated but i cant get my computer let the active x work.

Once installed the CD is just used as proof of ownership.

OK i tried to clean it and it didnt work so i went and bought a new disk to see if it would work and fix the problem and it doesnt.

it gets to the same spot. the temple finishing and thats where it messes up.
i dont know why there is no color inside the temple when i go in and after that it messes up. if there is a help or support number i can call to get help with this game please let me know

The main thing is that you don't want to be creating marks which run in the same direction as the tracks.

A point of interest. The data on a CD/DVD is stored just under the label. Which is why one should not use something like a ball point pen to label recordable discs. One scratch there and the disc is unreadable.

yea i knew that with the pen. any cd that you see the "shiny part" you just don't touch it unless you are cleaning it

Because the sequence of data on a CD runs in that direction. The data is laid out on such a way that it contains built-in error checking and correction. On a red-book audio CD, for example, you can lose up to successive 4000 data points in a row, and it can still reconstruct that lost data perfectly from the neighbouring points. In, fact on an audio CD, you can lose up to 12,000 successive data values and it will still be able to interpolate a value cleverly enough that you won't hear the difference. But if you lose more than the critical number of successive values, the missing data can't be reconstructed. If you clean the disc by gently wiping from the centre to the edge then any small scratches you introduce by doing this will tend to be at right angles to the sequence of data - so you will knock out data in lots and lots of different places, but hopefully the scratch will be narrow enough that every one of those actual data points can be perfectly reconstructed from its neighbours. If you wipe around in circles then any scratches will likely knock out not only the main data points but its neighbours as well, to the point that it becomes impossible to reconstruct what is damaged.

ok i believe you, but i haven't ever had a problem with my cds and scratches because i take care of them. but then i guess you're right

kays is completely right actually, when cleaning a disk you should never go in circles, always outwards. By inside out she means from the inside of the disk outwards. Well Pheonix, if cleaning doesn't work there are plenty of scratch removal kits out there. I'm not sure how well they work, but even if it doesn't work for you you've still got your kit for another time, and they're not too expensive either. But worst comes to worst you'll just have to buy a new disk - since I got mine for less than £5 (at the time, about $2.50, just in case you're American) a few years ago, that shouldn't be a problem for you.

If you are in the UK Poundland or the 99p stores both sell CD/DVD cleaning /polishing kits. These will remove minor damage and dirt and will often revive a damaged game disc and stop adio CD's skipping.
These kit work with a radial action and like Kays said they polish from the middle of the disc toward the edge. You can try it manually with a soft cloth and a little home made cleaning solution* but the kits are so cheap and do a quicker and better job.

* Half a cup of ...
cold boiled water
Melted fridge /freezer frost/ clean snow
or
Distilled water.
add a small pinch of Bicarbonate of Soda ( baking powder) stir until disolved.
Just incase the quantity is unclear
Thats about 1 teaspoon per gallon or 1gram per litre.

I have black and white installed on my computer and for some reason in the first land right after the temple is built the screen freezes up and then it turns black. i have to exit because i cant get it to come back. Also there is no detail in the temple everything is black except for the map and the lights. i have windows xp and i have tried to play it both with the patches and without. My cd is scratched in a few spots and i wasnt sure if that was it or not. If anyone knows what might be wrong please let me know. Thank You

burn you cd and get black and white 2 lol

no but seriously, depends where your scratches are and how visible they are (because the more visible the worse the scratch). like if you have a crack on the little ring around the whole you are fucked. if you have very visible scratces you are fucked.

lastly, if you don't have either check for smudges. take (i like to use cotton shirts) and rub in circles in one direction, and do it gently. oh and don't be an idiot and try to wash the smudge out.
