After doing the first few easy quests I would take my time building up my character. I walked from the Guild to Oakvale right away so I could go there. Then I spent alot of time going into the Hobbe cave to build up experience, also fighting off the bandits in the woods on the way to the Hobbe cave. I would just keep going back and forth there for awhile, turn in the points, take a quest, then the same process. I just recently started playing TLC again, I love that game!

Re: Help a New Player Out?

Hm, it can be easier if you have the traders wait, except the guy that got bit, cause he changes halfway through. Do not rush to do the quests, take your time running a few of the areas to build up your experience points before you grab a quest. There are some quests that i took too early and it kind of threw off the rhythm i though i had. The trader escort quest was difficult and in order to complete it the first time cost me 4 res orbs, i reloaded a save at a point before i activated that quest and then spent some time grinding on the mobs in the various areas until i could build myself up enough where killing the troll was easy and cost me no orbs. Play how you want but sometimes its better to slow down, and as always in games of this type lack of skill can be over come by brute force of levels. What takes skill to accomplish at level 10 is easy at level 15. I am not sure if this matters but as for aging i have heard that everytime you use you experience to build up your toon it ages your character, but maybe some one will have an answer.

Aging is not dependent on *using* will powers, it is based on upgrading any skill. With the most categories and levels to choose from, heavy will users tend to age faster than pure strength or skill characters, who increase skill levels more slowly. That being said, there is a way to take up to 10 years off a character from the two temples, although it only works once (barring a Hero save glitch you can take advantage of) and it will only take you back until you hit 18.

Re: Help a New Player Out?

Well, maybe. Is there anything I should know before starting my game? Because I know that in other RPGs, there are sometimes some small (but important) things that new players might overlook as they begin their game. Whether it is in Character Creation (like a skill I should definitely take, or which skills to avoid), or some hidden item only located in the beginning of the game, I would like to know so I won't regret it later. I always hate the dilemma of deciding whether to keep playing my game, or start a new one when something like this happens, so I'm asking now before I start my game.

But specifically, I mainly want advice on how to develop my character in the beginning of the game. I want to specialize in magic, so if that's a idea, is there anything I should do in the very beginning of the game?

Thanks for your help and time.

LISTEN UP FOR THIS: Using will powers ages you faster. Unless you want to see your Hero age faster, I'd suggest you be very careful about how often you use spells, or don't use them at all.

Your character can feel stress. Being stressed ages you faster, so you will have to rest whenever you get stressed. There is a cutscene in the game that will cause you to age by at least one year(i think). I'm not gonna say where or when. Spoilers, you know.

There are no children in the first game. Your character needs at least a strength of 3-4 in order to wield heavy weapons with efficiency. Stealing is a learned skill. People tend to run away from you a lot if they know your deeds, or if you look scary.

To lose weight, you have to wait in-game. Running makes your legs look ripped. There are a lot of cool tattoos in the game. If you don't get much sunlight, you will look paler, and you will eventually be able to see your skeleton(faintly).

There's no anti-scarring method. Also, there are limited hair styles.

Your character CAN die.

oh i thought you were lying i laughed when you said you can feel stress i didnt know that
Re: Help a New Player Out?

Alright, thanks for all the help (again).

I've been playing for the past three days already, and it's pretty awesome. =]
Re: Help a New Player Out?

Wizboy777:

Thanks for all your help. =]

And by dying, do you mean like... You lose your save game and all your progress? Because I know, like any game, you can die and then respawn or start from your last save point or something, but since you mentioned it, it must be pretty important (or at least different from other games).

Let me explain. The save function is as follows: Hero save, and game save. If you are on a quest, the Hero save option becomes available. When you save using Hero save, everything your Hero has at the time of the save remains with him, but your save puts you in the area you were in BEFORE you entered the area that started your quest. So, for example, there is a quest that starts in an area containing a cottage. When you go in the area, the quest starts immediately. If you go in, grab whatever's there(HINT), and then Hero save and start over, you will be standing in front of the entrance to the area containing the cottage.

Game save is what it says it is. It doesn't work in quests, at least it's not the same as the Hero save. You save and keep everything permanently, even the exact location and direction your Hero is facing.

What I mean by dying is: when you die, you DIE. You get to restart from the last save, however. There are things in the world called Resurrection Phials. They do exactly what they imply- shatter and bring you back to life. You can hold more than one, and each one can be used only once. The problem with these things is... They're easily found. For ness sake, I can shop for one. That's what makes the game so easy. You have to TRY to die.

I'm just saying it's different from Fable 2, where you don't die. You get knocked down. Forget the details on that, it's pathetic.

Re: Help a New Player Out?

It has been awhile since I played, and I'm not sure of the difference between Xbox and PC. But if you die and do not have a resurection vile I believe you start back at the begining of either the quest you are on or last save. There are several tricks you can find in the game to either get money or quickly up your characters ablilites. Also there are several dig spots and a few items you can only get to during a certain time of the day on the game. I learned so much from these forms even after having played the game a dozen times. If you have time just search through some of the threads and maybe back a page or so. There is alot of info in here.

Re: Help a New Player Out?

Thanks for all your help. =]

And by dying, do you mean like...
