I liked the expansion on the story of being inside the spire, i always felt that was too short. Also never occured to me exactly how the collars were attached. I know this isnt an exact copy of fable 2 and you have to take some dramatic license, but i donno, just bugs me a little, like it wasn;t the spire that made will unusable, it was the collars and some other stuff, but thats just me. All in alli give it like an 9/10, mainly cause its not finished! The people want more! And i donno about others, but i didn;t particulary like Jeremey, seemed too ordinary, plus what kind of an idiot would go to the most dangerous place in the world when he didnt have heroic powers? But you gave the commandant a soul, and i think he was in love with Sparrow, but like the spire had stolen most of his humanity and he used what little he had left to help Sparrow. But man, she seems to get well, not get raped, but guys seem to attempt to rape her a lot. Like Kama, or Kana, or whatever, seemed to be Cornelius Grimm turned, into the Shadow god or whatever he was when he was at the Wellspring, i don't remember really because he only survived for about 5 seconds after he transformed. (Master Axe with 4 augment slots ftw!).
But all i really want to say is keep writing, maybe you could turn it all into an actual book, well probably not, considering its Lionhead's thing, but its really , and keep it up. Can't wait until Sparrow meats Reaver, knowing him he'd probably proposition her .
Re: Chapter 35-Terrible Lie

haven't been on the boards for a couple weeks, was really hoping for an update on the story

Re: Chapter 35-Terrible Lie

JRES:

New Chapter Plox?

I know, I want to know what happens. The changes you make are just enough to keep the story the same and yet interesting in there diference. I loved the whole shards in the arm thing turning sparrow into a minnie commandant and her terminator style attack on jeeves:L

I have two new chapters up in two days!

This chapter is quite a DOOZY, so get ready! Sparrow does a bad thing....

Chapter 35
-Terrible Lie-

I froze, the shock running through me. My mind raced with why she would say such a thing, unless...

 “Your...R-Rose?” I stuttered.

“Yes, my little Rose. She was so young when the frost came. I lost her when she was only 3 months old...” The woman began to cry.

My throat was dry and the shock of it all hadn’t quite set in. HER Rose was here? If this was HER Rose’s grave, then where was MY Rose?

“I...I’m sorry for your loss.” Was all I could say and I grabbed my pack, tears filling my eyes. I ran from that place, ran from the cemetery and into Bowerstone Old Town. I stopped a moment, only to catch my breath and try to stop the angry tears. I looked around and decided to head back to Bowerstone Market. Hopefully the barman would have the answers to all of my questions...

I stormed into the place, fire was forming at my heels. Courage whined and stayed back. The people in the bar looked at me with fear as I walked over to the bar. I left little embers with each step and placed burning hands on the counter top. The barman I saw was a new one, not one that I recognized.

“Where is the barman from before?” I seethed. This man could barely stutter. He cowered near the kegs. I glared at the feeble man.

“The one who worked here ten years ago. I must speak with him.” My voice resonated through the tavern. The drunks and locals all ran from the bar with fright as little fires began appearing all over the place.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about!” The new barman finally squeaked out, hiding his face from me. My anger flared along with the fires and the little man ran from his spot behind the bar. I bared my teeth and walked up the stairs to where I had my last encounter with Lucien’s butler, Jeeves.
I knew it would be no . I checked all the rooms and none of them held any clues. My anger fired up more and I left the tavern as smoke began billowing out of it. As I exited the Cow and Corset I found guards running towards me and villagers running away.

“Oi! What are you doin there?! Arson is illegal here! We’re going to have to take you in, missy!” One of the guards yelled.

“Tell me where I can find Jeeves!” I yelled back.

The guards looked confused and just pulled out their guns, aiming for me. I glared and the windows blew out of the tavern. People screamed and the guards shielded their eyes from the shards of glass. I just turned and walked away as the bar went up in flames. The guards yelled and some of them shot at me, but I didn’t look back. They became preoccupied with the burning building and making sure it didn’t spread.
I wandered down a street, people closing their doors at the sight of me. I have no idea what had come over me, but all I could think of was finding Jeeves. He told me that Rose was in that cemetery. He LIED to me. He must know where her real grave is. Or perhaps he never knew? Whatever the case, I didn’t care. He lied and I was going to pay him back for my pain.

I looked all through Bowerstone market, but didn’t see Jeeves anywhere. Perhaps he had moved far away? Not wanting to be reminded of the things Lucien did or wanting to be found by me again? I headed back for the town square to get some questions answered. The guards found me and surrounded me on all sides. I didn’t care. I knew I could take them all out with a few fires...

“Tell me where the man named Jeeves resides! He used to work for Lucien Fairfax as a butler! Tell me where he is and I will leave this place, but it had better not be a LIE!” I bellowed.

The guards looked around, scratching their heads and talking with one another. Others still fought the blaze behind me.

“Jeeves the butler? He lives just down the way, closest house to Fairfax Gardens! I dunno what he’s done to you, but I pray for his immortal soul!” Came the shouts of someone I couldn’t quite see. It must have been a civilian. No matter. I walked towards Fairfax Gardens. I should have looked over there first. He must have thought himself privileged to live in such a high class place! I should have expected no better from the man who basically helped Lucien kill my sister. I approached the house. All was silent here and I opened the gate. I walked up the stone steps and put my fist through the wooden door. Fire spread from the hole I had made and I made it burn hotter and faster, reducing the door to cinders as I stepped through. When I walked into the house I saw that the whole place was furnished exceedingly well. He had to be here.
Not finding anyone on the first floor, I walked up the stairs to the second floor and BANG. There came a pain in my shoulder.

“NO! Get BACK, demon! Stay the hell away from me!” Jeeves shouted. I looked down to my shoulder and saw blood dribbling down my arm. I bared my teeth and stepped towards him.

“What ARE you?!” He backed into a corner. The fire he had going rose higher and caught onto the mantle. Little embers shot out of the fireplace and landed in various spots around the room, catching fire.

“My name is Sparrow!” I yelled at the whimpering coward in front of me. I saw him flinch at the mention of my name.

“I t-t-told you where her grave is right? That girl...your sister! And I sold you the diary! What more do you want from me?!” He bawled as he clutched his rifle for dear life.

“YOU LIED TO ME!” I screamed. The fires flared hotter and burned faster. The heat was intense and black smoke filled the room. Jeeves coughed as I advanced. He knew what was coming now.

“I’M SORRY! I NEVER SAW WHAT HE DID WITH YOUR SISTER! PLEASE! DON’T HURT ME!” Jeeves wailed to the wind because I wasn’t listening.

I reached out and tore the gun from his shaking hands. I saw that my own hands were clawed and blue, not unlike the Commandant’s. Jeeves closed his eyes and I grabbed his collar, hoisting him high into the air. Black smoke swirled around us both and I growled almost in triumph. This would give me at least some vengeance to satisfy my appetite until I rip Lucien to shreds...

“Now you shall feel my pain....” I jammed my claws deep into his flesh and found his beating heart. His screams seemed muffled and I felt the ooze of blood gushing down my arm. I pulled his heart from his chest and let him fall to the floor. I knew he was dead and I threw his heart into the fire that swarmed all around us. I saw a large window in front of me, the only way out and I shattered the glass with a powerful force push. As soon as I was clear of the house all the fire died down and I grinned. I grinned. My inside felt warm and happy. I breathed in the scent of blood and smoke. The destruction I had left in my anger was intoxicating...

“Sparrow? What the bloody hell happened here?!” Hammer yelled and I turned to face her. Apparently I must have been frightening to see because she gasped and backed away. “Sparrow...what has happened to you....?”

I glared and looked down at myself. My hands were clawed and covered in blood now. The blue ran up my arms and into my neck. I saw glowing blue lines on me as well, the same as Garth. I looked back up at Hammer, but barely glimpsed her before I felt an intense pain and blacked out.

“What have you done, little Sparrow? I am very disappointed.” Theresa scolded. I opened my eyes to see her standing next to me. I lay on the floor of the Guild, my head pounding and everything still spinning.

“It seems you finally finished the job you started all those years ago. You’ve killed Lucien’s old butler, Jeeves, in your anger. That was a very irresponsible thing to do. Word will spread just as quickly as the fires you started. All for nothing more than being lied to. Now get up.” Theresa’s words were cold and harsh.

I stood lowly, anger still felt like it was festering inside of me and I kept my distance from the old Seer.

“What you are feeling is no doubt a product of Lucien’s anger and his hate. Look at those shards of the Spire that have become lodged in your arms. Those are the culprits for your anger. I am certain that you have noticed a change in your behavior? Something along the lines of the Commandant perhaps? He had Lucien’s anger as well.” Theresa just stood there looking at me and explaining. I heard her voice but I also heard pulsing in my ears and felt it in my heart.

“Sparrow. Are you listening to me? Hammer, would you please take her to find Garth? I suspect he might be back at his old tower. He is the only one with enough knowledge of the Spire to safely remove the shards from her.” Theresa ordered. Hammer picked me up gently, receiving a scratching from me, which prompted another whack on the head from her.

The entire way, Hammer didn’t say one word to me. This troubled me deeply, but all I was trying to do right now was sit still so I wouldn’t get another whack. We stopped at a few places where Hammer had to steak me to the ground using chains in place of rope. She must have been told by Theresa to do so.

“You seem to have a problem with fire lately.” Was all Hammer said to me during the whole trip.

We arrived before dawn at Garth’s tower and Hammer was sure to scout ahead for any lurking Spire guards that may have been skulking around. She hauled me up to the tower, wrapped in chains with a shackle around my neck. I felt suddenly ashamed. My best friend in the world was forced to do this to me. What had I done?

“Knock, knock! I’ve got a parcel for you spell flinger!” Hammer bellowed to the tower above. There was no answer.
“He’s probably asleep. Well, I suppose I can just leave you here and he’ll find you soon enough?” Hammer set me down and I cried out.

“No, Hammer! Please don’t leave me here! I can’t get out of this! What if he’s not here? What if Lucien’s men come and they kill me?! What’ll I do? I’m so afraid!” I sobbed to her and Hammer turned back to me with huge tears in her eyes as well.

“You killed him, Sparrow! You murdered that man and he was completely defenseless! I don’t care if he lied to you, that was uncalled for!” Hammer roared at me.

I sobbed harder, “He had it coming! He fed us to Lucien! He’s an accomplice!”

“Shut up! He was a little old man and you ripped his little heart out of him! That’s MURDER, Sparrow! You murdered him!” Hammer screamed back.

“He deserved what he got!” I yelled and Hammer smacked me so hard I flew into the side of the tower.

“What in the HELL is going on down there?!” Garth shouted looking down from his room.

Hammer ran off, leaving me there bleeding from the impact with the tower. I sobbed angry tears and cried to the morning sun as it’s bright red face shone upon me. The neon color flooded Brightwood with a tinge of madness. Garth had reached the foot of his tower and saw me seething and bleeding and screaming. The trees around me began to catch on fire and I growled deeply at seeing Garth.

“My god....I forgot. I’m sorry, Sparrow.” Garth said with a hint of fright in his voice. “I should have foreseen this outcome. You’ve become an animal. Rabid and wild, just like the Commandant. The shards are driving you insane.” Garth explained, but all I could hear was the beating of my heart in my ears and the crackle of fire around me. I saw red everywhere and I gnashed my teeth at him. He held out his hands and sent charges of lightning into me. My thrashing ceased and I felt myself go numb. I couldn’t scream or fight anymore. Only angrily stare up at the man I had worked so hard to save. Now he had to return the favor.

Garth lifted my battered body and carried it up the first flight of stairs to where we had our first real conversation, before he was kidnapped by Lucien.

“Let me out of here!” I growled at Garth once I had regained the feeling in my mouth.

“I have to fix you first. It’ll be a complicated operation and I need to put you under so that you can’t feel the pain or fight me either.” Garth frowned as he fumbled through his many potions on the shelf. At last he had located a small vial of a clear blue liquid. He approached me with it and grabbed my face forcefully. I twitched and tried to fight him, but Garth merely sent another small wave of paralyzing lightning through me and I was calmed again. He poured the liquid down my throat and I could barely swallow it.

“ night, Sparrow. When next you wake I will have returned you to whom you once were.” Garth spoke quietly as my body became heavy and my eyelids closed.

I heard a low, soft humming and my eyes fluttered open. I took a deep breath and stretched. Whatever had been before this, I do not remember. But now I felt refreshed and peaceful, ready for what the day held. I sat up and looked at my surroundings. I saw a golden butterfly fluttering so slowly through the air. Sunlight bathed the forest in a warm glow and all the leaves were a beautiful goldenrod, matching the grass. I heard water nearby and looked back to see a large lake, glittering in the white light.
I looked around for the humming, but saw no one near. The voice was deep and warm, the same as the place which I now walked. I followed the butterflies and heard birds chirping sweetly. I was at peace here.

“You can wake up now, Sparrow. I’ve finished.” I heard Garth speak and I looked all around to see where he was. Wait, Garth...I remembered now. The shards were in my arms. My arms got hot and I looked down to see flames uncontrollably billowing from my hands. I shook them, as if trying to put out the fire, but the embers fell to the earth and caught the grass on fire. I began to panic and then I felt pain and blood poured from my forearms. I began to cry and then Garth appeared and took me by the shoulders.

“Wake up, Sparrow! Wake up!” He shook me and the forest swirled away to a dark, cold place with very low light. I assumed the light was made from a mix of candles and moonlight. I shuddered and looked up at Garth who still gripped my shoulders. My vision blurred and I bit my lower lip.
“. You’re awake I-“ But Garth couldn’t finish because I began to cry again. Everything I had done finally caught up with me and I couldn’t bare to be me anymore.

“Why couldn’t you just let me die...?” I whispered through tears. Garth picked me up off of the table and set me on the old cot that Danny had slept on all those years ago.

“You shouldn’t think such things. None of it was your fault. Now, just settle down. I’ll get you a wool blanket.” Garth’s voice sounded so soothing and when he returned with the blanket, I reached up and wrapped my arms around his neck.

“CARE...ful now....” Garth was worried about my arms and didn’t pull back, so I pulled him closer and finally he gave up and lay next to me, making sure the blanket covered my feet.

“The morning will be better, I promise. For now, we must sleep and you must recover.” He lay there monitoring my breathing and occasionally checking my heartbeat. Once Garth was satisfied with my improvement, his eyelids became heavy and his head hit the pillow. I curled up next to him and became quite warm and woozy. Comfort was achieved and so I fell back into my wonderful golden dreamland.

Chapter 34-Bittersweet Homecoming

Here is a new chapter! Not quite as exciting as the last one but fun nonetheless

Chapter 34
-Bittersweet Homecoming-

Garth cradled my severely weakened body. I just lay my head on his warm chest and listened to the calm beating of his heart. My arms pulsed with pain and burned from the fragments of the Spire stuck in my skin. I was no longer bleeding, but I had begun to notice that dark blue forming around the wound.

“The shards are reacting to the Will in your blood.” Garth spoke softly and lifted my left arm carefully to inspect it. His hands were rough, but his touch was gentle and I felt like a child in his arms.
“Those are going to be tough to remove, Sparrow.” Garth let my arm down gently and continued to hold me. I let out a few of my tears and they fell silently down his torso. He didn’t say much of anything else as the ship rocked back and forth, lulling me to sleep. I whimpered slightly and curled up to slumber in warm arms.

The sea took us swiftly towards the shores of Oakfield. The men on board assisted Garth and I in steering us safely home. It took a full month, but finally I saw those wonderful docks and that powdery white sand. I gasped at the sight and tears met my eyes. Never had I seen anything more wonderful in my existence! I was coming home! I held onto a rope and let the wind whip through my hair as I sniffed the salty air. Garth approached and smiled up at me.

“I never thought I’d look upon land again. It’s all thanks to you Sparrow. I owe you my life.” Garth told me and I just looked down at him with a large grin.

Our ship approached the docks and I saw a most familiar fuzzy face waiting for me. My heart leapt from my chest and as soon as the plank was lowered I jumped down.

“Courage!” I choked out as I wrapped my arms around the shaggy dog. He licked my hands and my face and whined to show his happiness. I held him tightly and cried joyfully into his fur.

“Oh I missed you too, boy!” I laughed and kissed his wet nose.

“That is quite some companion you have there, Sparrow. He came to the docks everyday for a week awaiting your arrival. He knew you would return, victorious, even before I did.” I heard Theresa speak and I stood up to meet her.

She smiled and then I did the only thing I could think of. I threw my arms around her as well and just sobbed tears of joy at seeing her wizened face again.

“S-Sparrow...” She stuttered and then chuckled lightly, hugging me back. “It is to see you again, back safe and sound.”

I let Theresa go and returned to Courage and Garth.

“Well, quite the reunion here, but I must be on my way.” Garth began to walk away and Theresa stepped in front of him.

“I’m sorry Garth, but there is a reason we saved you from the Spire.” She stated blankly.

Garth frowned, “Of course.”

I sensed the tension in both of their voices and my lip quivered.

“You know full well what the Spire is capable of and what Lucien could do with it, Garth. We need your help in bringing him down.” Theresa explained.

“True, I know what he could do, but I have no time to meddle with such things. I am old and tired of these games. There are better things I could be doing with my time than wasting my energy on these trivial matters.” Garth told Theresa, clearly annoyed at having to deal with other peoples’ problems.

“I know it is difficult, but if Lucien is not stopped, he could destroy Albion in his quest for the Spire’s power.” Theresa tried to persuade Garth, but he was not hearing it.

I knew nothing would convince him other wise and Theresa looked to me. I could see something in her eyes that meant she was thinking over something in her mind. She stepped aside and let Garth pass. My mouth dropped open and I looked at her with disbelief. How could she just let him go so easily? Was she hoping I would say something that would change his mind? I had nothing! Garth didn’t even look back at me to say bye. He just kept walking away and all I could do was hold on to Courage.

“It is alright little Sparrow. We shall have yet another chance to gain his trust. For now, how about you return to your life as you left it? Hammer is waiting at the Rookridge Inn. She has just finished taking care of a bandit problem there and I know she will be elated to know you’ve returned.” Theresa told me.

I felt that her words were very insensitive for the present time. Had she not known what happened to Jeremy in the Spire? Did she even care? I stood up and glared at her before walking past towards town with Courage at my heels. I wouldn’t let her words stain my arrival. I was going to the Rookridge Inn to meet my best friend in the whole world and tell her of my tale.

Rookridge looks just as I had left it. Still dank and dark with plenty of rain and mud. As it so happened, it was pouring down now, leaving Courage and I soaked to the bone as we arrived at the Inn. My matted brown hair covered my eyes and I had to wring out the month old dress I still wore from the Spire. I was certainly a sight to behold as I entered and saw that braided red hair with a bottle of booze. I noticed that Hammer had indeed changed since I last saw her. She looked a bit slimmer and also wore light armor. Hammer now carried a large axe as well.

“What in the hell happened to you?” She laughed and took a swig.

“Well that is no way to greet your best friend who just got out of the worst place in the world!” I yelled and Hammer choked on her whiskey.

“Holy hell! SPARROW?!” Her eyes bugged and she coughed hard.

“Yes! It’s me!” I choked back my tears, wringing out the remainder of the extra water in my dress.

Hammer set down her bottle and looked down at me and moved the hair from my face.

“Well...I’ll be. It IS you! You ol’ girl! Aww what happened to your hair? And WHAT are you wearing?” She laughed and hugged me to her. I just let her while she squeezed the tears out of me.
“Aww, don’t cry Sparrow. You’re alright. I don’t mean anything, I’m just teasin’.”

My lip quivered and I grabbed her bottle of whiskey and took a big gulp. It burned going down and I coughed a bit, but it would help.

“Blimey. How long has it been since you’ve had a drink? I want you to tell me everything.” Hammer sat down and I sat down with her. Courage lay at my feet, not wanting to leave me again. And so I started from when I left the docks of Westcliff. I told her every horrid detail of what had happened to me. Her face fell when I mentioned Jeremy.

“Oh Sparrow...I knew I hadn’t seen him around and his brother well...He packed up and left town. Haven’t seen him in years.” Hammer informed me. I looked away with more tears falling. It was my fault, all of it and my heart felt caught in a vice.
I finished my story and Hammer just sat back and shook her head.

“Lucien...he’s gone completely bonkers hasn’t he? And you did it. You rescued Garth! You’re a lot stronger than I would have imagined and...ooohh...you’ve still got those things in your arms.” Hammer recoiled at the sight of the bruised, oozing purple wounds with the spikes jutting out.

“Yeah. Garth said he could remove them...but..but he took off!” I felt suddenly angry that he would do such a thing.

“Settle down Sparrow, you’re setting the table on fire!” Hammer laughed and I saw small embers forming. We put them out and I felt embarrassed.

“I can’t believe you’re here. You’re really back after ten years. I never gave up hope. Kind of hard when everyday, someone’s whispering about “their vision of the hero’s safe return”. Honestly there were a few times there I wanted to smack Theresa!” Hammer held up a thick fist and I just laughed. I couldn’t help visualizing that scenario.

“Anyway, I’m glad you’re back. We’re a team again, you and I! I’ve just finished clearing this dump of a bad bandit problem. They’re like roaches! But, with a little help from Courage here, I was able to root out the nest. Oh! I’ve just remembered, I have to meet an informant who might have some information on our...err..number three. But you should go find Garth and get him to take those things out. They look terrible. If I’ve found anything out, Theresa will call you to the Guild. Bet you’ll be happy to see that place again, eh?” Hammer stood up, as did I and she gripped me in another bear hug.

“I’ll see you, Hammer. Please be careful.” I told her.

“Oh! Another thing. I’ve left all your things locked up in your old caravan back at the gypsy camp. Bet you’d fancy a trip back there for old times sake?” Hammer gave me a key and with that she was off. I scratched Courage behind his shaggy ears and together we left the Inn.

This time I was headed straight for Bower Lake. I wasted no time in stopping by the guild or putting my feet in the wonderful waters of the lake, but instead went right for my camp to collect my things. When I stepped into the camp, whispers followed me. I looked at no one, but kept my hair in my face as best I could and continued towards my old caravan. As I looked up I saw that it looked very much the same as I had left it.

“Someone must have kept up with the weeds I s’pose.” I whispered more to myself than anyone else. I took my key and felt an oddly familiar tingling. I gripped the key in my surprise and looked down to find that I was holding a sparkling silver key! Courage barked at it and I suddenly remembered the silver key from Murgo’s traveling caravan.

“Strange how things happen sometimes, huh boy?” I smirked and looked back at my caravan. There was a decent sized chest lined in silver sitting at the top of the stairs. I approached it and used my key to unlock it. The chest opened easily and I found my old things exactly as I remember. Nothing was rusted or worn out. Even the old dog biscuits weren’t the least bit moldy!

“Leave it to Theresa...”I shook my head and grinned. Courage barked and I tossed him a treat which he gulped down happily.

I looked at my old weapons with a sigh.

“Jeremy’s brother gave me these.” I frowned.

Surely there would be something new after ten years and I didn’t want anything to remind me of Jeremy. I got everything situated and ready to head wherever I was needed, but when I began walking I was approached by the gypsies.

“Sparrow? Is that you?” An old woman stepped forward and looked up at me. I looked down at her, now more wrinkled than ever. I nodded silently and she smiled toothlessly. The gypsies all gave out a cheer and Dinah shook her hands at me in her excitement. This made me smile from ear to ear. I heard tambourines and drums being played and saw dancers.

“Tonight, we will celebrate your safe return!” Dinah spoke. “Whatever happened to those earrings I gave you, child? And what is this thing you’re wearing? The city going to your head?” Dinah joked and chuckled.

“We’ve got some nice hot stew and freshly cooked chickens here. Plenty of drink for ya of course, Sparrow.” A mother gypsy told me as her children ran around a large cauldron. I smiled and nodded.

I was brought new clothes in a traditional gypsy style as well as wraps for my injured arms, with matching wraps for my legs. I changed clothes in my caravan and had some children wrap my arms and feet. I found Dinah’s old earrings in my satchel of things and put them on as well.

I saw a large bonfire and dancers with tambourines. I was handed my own tambourine and I joined in the fun. I danced alongside the people I’d known growing up here and saw their smiling faces. New children laughed and ate and played together. I looked at ones who had grown since I’d left and watched new couples. This place was home, now more than ever, and I was blissful. I drank and feasted to my heart’s content and as the morning sun peaked over the hills of Albion, I fell soundly asleep in my old caravan, curled up with Courage.

“Wake up there, Sparrow!” Came the shrill voice of a young girl. I snorted and shifted, curling up tighter until I was drenched in ice cold water.

“AAAH!” I shouted and jumped up. “Hey!” I shouted and dropped my bottle of wine on my bare foot. “AGH!” I screamed and held my foot as the children ran from my caravan laughing and shrieking in joy.

After making sure my foot was fine, I dashed after them. The children saw me sprinting and they split up, still giggling. I let them all run around thinking I was still coming for them. After a while they caught on and they all found where I was sitting and tackled me to the ground.

“Hey! You crazy kids!” I laughed as they swarmed me. Courage finally jogged up, barking at the rabble. Again the giggles came and the kids scattered, leaving me and Courage there alone. I sighed and clung to the old dog.

“Well, Courage. I think we should go visit Rosie and Danny today. What do you think?” I looked at him and he licked my face. “I’ll take that as a yes?” I laughed and stood up. After gathering my weapons and some left overs, the gypsies waved bye and I was off to Bowerstone and headed straight for the cemetery.

It took a day to reach Bowerstone Market and then another hour to reach the cemetery, but as soon as I arrived, I couldn’t wait to see Rose. I would stop by to see mum and dad of course, but Rose was my top priority. I ran down the old path and up the hill to where I knew her grave was. Courage ran ahead of me and I just ran faster. We both reached the old gravestone out of breath and I smiled at seeing her grave again. Just knowing she was resting peacefully here made me happy.

“Did you miss me, Rose? I was gone for a long time, but I’m back now! Just like I promised! I brought you a flower bracelet the gypsy kids made.” I fumbled through the rucksack and pulled out a dandelion bracelet, setting it on the grave. I smiled and felt the warm earth and then I heard footsteps behind me. Courage turned around first, but didn’t bark. I looked up next and saw an older woman dressed in ragged clothing. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and I looked back with confusion.

“Are you alright, ma’am? I asked.

Her lip quivered and then she spoke, “Are you the one who leaves flowers for my little Rose?”

Re: Chapter 31-Only a Man

WOW.
