Black & White 2 on Vista

Just bought the game, I have Vista. My system has ATI, so I should run. Have Directx 10, so I don't understand what's going on. The game will begin to install, but then will automatically crash saying a cycle error occured or something. I can't install the patches because I can't even install the game, anything I can do please?

Re: Black & White 2 on Vista

I play B&W2 on Vista 64 and ATI  with DX10.
With the latest drivers  BOTG works as well.
I think you are getting  a cyclic redundancy error. This means a dead , scratched or dirty DVD/CD.
    .
CRC ( Cyclic redundancy check) is  the way used to  confirm that data read from a disk  is  correct. If the data read  dose not match the checksum at the end of the packet  then you get this error.

Re: Black & White 2 on Vista

Yeah, that's it lol, cyclic redundancy! So.. I just try and clean the disk and it should work? Or if worse, the disc is "dead" then I'd have to get a new, but it's for sure not the PC?

Re: Black & White 2 on Vista

CRC is a disk read error.
The chances are that if the B&W disk is the only one you have problems with  then it is the disk not the drive.

Re: Black & White 2 on Vista

Hm.. It's just that disc I'm pretty sure, the first of four disks is pretty scratched. Cleaning it's almost impossible, I guess either try and find another or do you know any sites where I can download the full game?

Re: Black & White 2 on Vista

The disk  polisher I got  for a puond  has repaired  several   dead CD's  and  game  disks.
The data is still intact if the marks are only on the "silver" side of the disk. If you can see light  through the data area on the printed side  the disk is definatly dead.

For me it works on Vista Ultimate 64-bit with an Athlon64 X2/Radeon HD3870. So don't talk ***! Tired [:tired:]

ORLY [orly] Was it like that when you bought it? If so, take it back to the shop and ask for a replacement. If not however, then likely no warrantee will cover it in which case you may like to try polishing the scratch with some toothpaste to try and smooth it out. I had best results with the sort of jelly-blue toothpaste. See here under 'polish the disc' - I've never tried brasso. Smily [:)]

Re: Black & White 2 on Vista

Well for this problem it's the disc not Vista, i got B&W 2 the first time a critical file was missing, unless you have had problems installing other games on Vista i would buy a new copy of the game.  Once you get the game running, run it in conpatibility mode that's the only way to play it.
    Failure is an Option.

Re: Black & White 2 on Vista

    I click install.

I accept the Terms of Use.

    I enter my CD Key.

    Installation begins.

A few minutes of installation pass.

Message appears, installation needs disc 2 to continue.

I put in disc 2 and click continue.

    PROBLEM! Sad [:(]

After I click continue... the disc message that appears changes from working to (Not Responding)

I have to force quit the installer because my Vista has frozen.

Please update or suggest workarounds for B+W2 to use on Vista 64 bit!

Re: Black & White 2 on Vista

Copy the 4 CDs to a folder on your harddisk and run setup.exe from there. This way there will be no need to change disks.

If the copy process to the folder of one of the 4 CDs fails already before installing, you can be sure the CD is broken and can not be restored. You will need a replacement CD. I doubt it is a problem in your case though.

Only for your information: The point of sale and the physical condition of the surface are not always an indicator if a CD is broken or not. I doubt that there where new pressed CD of B&W2 since about 4 years at least which means that any "new" bought B&W2 copy today is already at least 4 years old. CDs (as all data storages) lose their data over the time. Sometimes faster sometimes slower. The typical lifetime of a CD is between 10-50 years under optimal conditions.

Re: Black & White 2 on Vista

Well I have windows vista home premium. I love paying Black & White 2, but there is a problem, which I can not work out. The installation seems to go perfectly fine, but then going through the tutorial (when the G o o d [Good] and E v i l [Evil] guy's are talking) it freezes and I can not shut the game down, so I have to take the battery out of my Laptop and put it back in to restart, another thing is that my Laptop also plays The Sims 3 well. So I don't understand why the game doesn't work on my laptop.
