Ok, you want to get into the industry?
My first bit of advice, start learning and get on a project ASAP!
To start off with decide wether you want to be an artist or programmer if you want to be a designer 1) uve got a load of competition 2) you need to know about both art ad programming (at bit about them anyways).
For art I suggest you just gogle "3ds max tutorials" for modelling, or if you want to be a concept artist just practice your drawing and look up some digital painting tutorials. Also if you want to be a concept artist a graphics tablet of some sort (idealy a wacom) should be on your bday list.
If you want to be a programmer then i'd take physics and mechanical maths at A-Level if you get the choice as they will be important for things like 3d programming etc where vectors etc are key.
Once your "trained up" a bit go to www.gamedev.net and look under help wanted. Signup to join a project that has some nice artwork and ideally screenshots. By joining one of these you will not only have something to shove on a CV but you should learn from the team (who will ideally have more experience than you). Throught working on a project Im leading (www.assyria-game.com) in total so far 3 people have got jobs after having been in the team and those of us at uni are now planning to dual startup a studio here in the uk, and one in sweden to work on the game.
Finally you need to start making friends. The games industry is quite small, everyone knows everyone and friends are a
means to getting jobs and advice.Im not going to tell you where to go to find people in the game industry but if you search the web you will be able to find out about trade events and stuff where a large amount of game industry guys will be (And theres normaly a free bar which is always a plus
).
But in such a small industry networking/ making friends is vital. Just from going to the pub and having a few drinks with guys I've managed to get my game pitched to eidos, vivendi, entechnix, introversion and Ive aso found a publisher who's interested in taking a look at a casual game me and some friends at uni are making over summer.
It's also allowed me to build up a large amount of connections whome I can contact when I am in need of placement or advice.
Anyways just a bit of advice...
