Can anyone lend me a hand?

Hi guys basicly i'm inspired to be a game designer =) but there are tons of things which i need to learn and look for a G o o d [Good] chance to put them to G o o d [Good] use. I have mulled over creating my perfect game for like 5 years. Ideas and concept come and go as people have aready used them so i have to replaced them so they won't look like something i picked up from a used shop.

    So here it goes =)

This would be a fantasy based RPG game where players can create their characters from 5 main races which are unique in their own way nto to mention different attributes which can grant access to certain missions or quest.

The Ratholian - Race of Humans
The Omnians - Race of Elementist
The Dethanians - Race of Demons
The Aheathians - Race of Beast
The Cretosians - Race of Giants

Each of the race you pick will determine where you start your journey to discover your true self and also the workings of the world surrounding the character you created. Decisions and outcome of quest weather it is a success or a failure will result in a change of your surroundings. The game is what you make of it as all the characters you made will start from a humble begining but will eventualy choices would be opened to you for you to make. There are quest that would make you a General, a Scholar, an Assasin, a Sage and alot more to be listed if i were to go on. The choice is for the places to make and their decision would also decide on what they want their character to be. (Lol would like to see a Demon trying to play the role of a nice priest Confused [8-)] ) So to say there are basicly no restrictions on what race you pick cant be whatever you want. Its just abit harder to achieve.

    TOWN DEVELOPEMENT

Basic setups on towns and cities is that they all start small and slowly develope as you advance through the game =) In short the towns and cities grows as you accomplish missions you choose and it also leaves a unique marker on what your contribution you have in that city itself. For example there are 4 people fighting against each other for the right to be the mayor of the place, a sightful mage, a brave warrior, a witty merchant ,a cunning rogue or even yourself. Help anyone of them get the spot to become mayor or take the spot yourself will allow the city to simply grow towards the direction of the mayors proffession. If the warrior was successfully made mayor then the town will be bustling with alot of mercenaries gladiators and fighters. Not to mention the shops that are open caters to most of the warrior needs like potions sword and armors. As the town grows more with time options of alot of matters slowly opens up for the mayaor himself to choose according to what he could afford that is. It could be in commerce, magic, offence, defence and alot more things =). With the aditional research or money put into development of what the mayor wants. You can surely see the changes of of surrounding buildings and also abit of the landscape. Lots more to say about this concept but lets leave it at this =)

    CHARACTER AND SKILL DEVELOPEMENT

As for the character skill and stats =) i have come up with something which hopefully i can call my own skill tree which does not restrict a persons creativity to mix and match their own skill to further improve what they already know or create new skills or spells based on the knowledge they have gained. I have splited the skills into 6 categories 5 which are mainly for battle purposes and 1 for social/commerce. These basic skills are then put in circles to differenciate the difference in quality and power. Each of the core skills have at least 5 lvl of circles for a person to master.

    Circle of Fury-offensive skills

    Circe of Sanctuary-defensive skills

    Circle of Creation-production skills

    Circle of Elements-fire,water,air,earth skills

    Circle of Summoning-conjuring,summoning,involking skills

Circle of Sence-This is the only circle not ment for combat but more on the charaisma of your character effecting his diplomatic and also persuasion skills.

These are only the core skills to begin with but there is also another speciality to it. You can mix 2 core battle skills together to create another skill. I'll let you in on an example. If i mix a skill from Circle of  Fury with Circle of Elements =) i'll get a cool swords skill imbued with the power of both circles! A fiery flaming sword skill or a petrifiying sword wich causes paralisis with thei aid of the elements of earth. haha cool isn't it? Wait wait =) theire is more!! what if you combine 3 Circles to make a new skill? Circle of Fury+Circle of Elements+Circle of Summoning = You can summon a nasty monster with a high combat capability and also it has elemental properties. =) lots and lost more i can add in here but this is just a teaser....

    RANDOM EVENTS AND EPIC EVENTS

Alrite, games will be boring if there isn't any random factor in it. I imagine myself playing a game i though was fun over and over again but nothing ever changes made me think why am i not that all enjoying myself over it like the first time i played it? Things get old and doing the same things over and over stinks. Some events are held at a set date which does not even budge if the sun never rose up. So making some events unique and random in times would make players more attentive and also look foward to sparking of an event anywhere anytime. Imagine an event was suddenly sparked at the very begining of your adventure when you still don't have any skills you have mastered. But that event is what you can say compulsory role and it does not matter if your prepared for it or not. When the moon decides to go red and release a big baddie out into the world can you stop it? well it depends weather you wanna ignore the event monster rampaging from town to town till you get stronger or face it with your current weakling skills are both your choice. G o o d [Good] thing about geting him out of the way early is that you'll save people a whole lot of trouble and they'll give you lots of G o o d [Good]ies and candy, on the other hand if you let him be rampaging till the time you get to him all the people have nothing much to reward you for it but just their eternal gratitude *they'll put your name on a statue or a fountain after they rebuild i guess* Hmmmmmm that would seem abit too normal doesn't it? What if you also get an option to convert the baddie or elslave it to be one of your minions? it would be a twist too.....or maybe i'll just help it and devote myself as one of its henchmen...haha the possibilities that one event will lead to what becomes of your character is basicly up to your imagination (or mine hahaha).

Well this is only the basic ideas =) I'll provide more info on my game if you guys think i can continue posting about it. Or you can email me about what you think.

Okay i'm no game designer but i can help a bit. First off, this sounds like a G o o d [Good] idea, meaning it sounds like theres people who would play it. And second, i mayhave missed this, but do you plan this game to be an MMORPG? If so then environments cant really change, it just sort of sounds like an MMO. In order to start making the game youll obviously have to draw up everything, from basic weapons to how towns will look. Youll also need to think about controls, menus, basically how EVERYTHING is going to work. You should also maybe get some of your friends to help you, ive never heard of a game beng made by one person alone!

Do you have past experience in game design? If not, you may want to consider a class, it will make things much easier. That covers everything that should be done first. i hope i helped a little bit, G o o d [Good] luck!!! Stick out tongue [:P]Wink [;)]Stick out tongue [:P]

Re: Can anyone lend me a hand?

Well i have thought about it as a single player RPG game. MMORPG sounds abit hard to pull of with the constant changes which this game is all about. Basicly it involves pre-planed choices which are available for players to choose from which requires alot of creative writing not to mention tons of drawings to do with one singular object for example a building itself. We can have one basic design of a structure and then we also have to make like several covers or should i say different designs to fit on to the base structure to show change according to the players actions in the game itself. Would be great if it can be made into an multiplayer game but i don't think our current tech can handle it.....who knows give or take a couple more years they might be able to pull it off.

I'm about 75% finish with the basic plans (in writen text) for game play like weapons & armors, monster ability, surrounding atmosphere, music (genre), accesories, battle modes, interfaces, ingame economics and much more......i still lack of a G o o d [Good] story to go with it...

Here is a little bit more extra of what i have already planed for weapons and armors since dimitri brought it up is the classification and also the production of weapon itself in my game.

Normal Weaponary & Armory- the normal junk we can pick up in abundance and sell it off just to get a nickle or two.

Fine Weaponary & Armory- the finest in quality you can find for an equiptment for it gives lots of cash and it also 25% more effective than normal junk.

Enchanted/Magic Weaponary & Armory- imbued with magics and have its attributes buffed up with special effects

Sentient Weaponary & Armory- an equipment with a mind of its own and gains experients with its user. The equiptment chooses its master according to its own will unless you have a way of making it serve under you. The equipment also have its own set of skills and abilities which it uses on its own will. As it develops further it will gain more skills and become more inteligent to the point it might just talk

Weaponary & Armory Forging- well if your a person who knows your craft you would design it to suit your own ability. When you learn Creation Circle you are provided with skills which help you create 3 things which are weaponary, armory and constructs (golems or machines). If your a player i don't think you would only stick to one circle alone. by combining skills from other circle like circle of elements, one can imbue elemental properties. Or if i have summoning as my secondary skill circle i can create a dagger, wand or whatever to reduce the requirements to enable me to summon my minions. There is 5 Levels to each circles and mastering anyone of them would give you a better chance to make things turn out the way you want it to be but the higher the mastery of a circle the higher the expence will be if the item turns out to be a failure. No. you can't create sentient weapons cause it would defeat the meaning of it being special in the first place =p

That is some of the ideas i have for items, got more still under consideration and under progress.

very G o o d [Good] ideas, you have put the effort in, Just check it can run on whatever consoles or machines it is on, other wise you may have a problem and a bit of humiliation when you show it (My somehow relative did that)
