    Saveing Game in Vista

I just got a new computer with Vista (even thought I have hear the bad stories).  I have moved all my saves from Fable to the the new comp.  I have set up Fable so that It would run as though on XP.  Now it will not save me game or recognize my charactures brought from my old comp.Angry [:@]

    What should I do?

The reason I run it as XP is because I could not move the mouse if I just run it normal Vista.

    Re: Saveing Game in Vista

    HHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess this is one way to get people to throw out their old programs and buy new ones.  I am still having the same problems when I run Fable in Vista (now called the Visa Virusafraid [:afraid:].  Reminds me of reboot daily) or try to have Vista run it as XP.

I have never had to come to ask for help on line like this before.Angry []

Any one with ideas or smart comments?

    Re: Saveing Game in Vista

Guess you need to give the game admin rights. I have Vista too, but such things as admin rights I never notice because I always give them to myself. Despite that many people say: "Don't run your computer directly from the admin-account!", I usually give a flying *** on this and never ever had problems doing it so. Why the hell should I restrict myself on my own computer not to have full access? It is just stupid ... nonetheless if you're still reading here after lines and lines of senseless rambling. Vista can run every programm directly with admin-rights without actually being on the admin-account. Simply right click on the .exe or menu link and chose "Run as Admin".

If this didn't work though, another problem maybe the way Vista manages your personal folders which changed a bit from the old WinXP. Dunno exactly where Fable saves its profile and game saves, but I know I had some problems lately getting C&C3 to find my old savegames.

    Re: Saveing Game in Vista

I think I have head this before and think you might be right.  I have heard that Vista is a very sensitive program and if you don't have everything in the right folder then it can not find anything.

I guess the next question to ask is were should my saved files go, and how do I get Fable to change were it keeps it's saved files.

It was a fun fun game.  I hope that I can fix this so that I can play it more than just once.

    Re: Saveing Game in Vista

I actually found a folder under:

    C:\Users\ProfileName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Fable

Dunno what it does and if it is really the Fable savegame folder, but the C&C3 savegame folder was under:

    C:\Users\ProfileName\AppData\Roaming\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars

You also got those special save games folders here and there in the Vista profiles and documents folder or whatever. I have not fully understood yet what purpose what folder is for or maybe it is completely random what program uses what folder. Tired [:tired:]

    Re: Saveing Game in Vista

I donot have a AppDatt (or exactly how it is) file.

I did find that folder but it does not have saved files in it.

The files there say comback.dat and comfront.dat

    What does that mean?

    Re: Saveing Game in Vista

Fable:TLC works on my Vista 64 bit without problems.

The problem within in this thread was that he wanted to import old savegames which makes it necesary to know where the game places those files under Vista. I can not answer this question, but I can confirm that the game works with a new profile and also makes new saves.

Maybe one should look where it saves a new profile data with new savegames to and than copy over/import the old profile and savegames to this location. I don't have the game installed curently so I can't look and tell where it is, so it is your turn to find out. Wink [;)]

    Re: Saveing Game in Vista

I tried to start a new profile and still have problems.  With the new profile it will not let me save any farther than the opening of the game.  It always starts from the seen of the kid throwing up.Ick! [+o(]  That is what I am starting to feel about the game.  All of this is when I run as in XP.

If I just run the game I can not get past the begining of the game were it says "click here" because I can not move the mouse.  I have updated all of my drives.

                                                            Crazy []

I played as the G o o d [Good] guy.  I wanted to try the E v i l [Evil] guy.  I do not think it will happen.

Did you ever try solving this problem by running the game with administrator rights, as I suggested in my first post? I did not see a confirmation nor a negation that it did or did not work. Tongue Tied [:S]

That's actually the most common people run into when playing games on vista. I know I've had to run it as admin for several games I play on my laptop.  It doesn't run right because they don't right click the exe and run it as admin. G o o d [Good] suggestion! It might actually help him out. Up []

    Re: Saveing Game in Vista

Do you think that the problem is that I have a Vista 32 and not Vista 64?  I was told that Vista Ultimat has more for progaming and stuff.
