Like someone else said, free tourneys are a great way.
Other than that, I slowly built up my savings playing Fortune's Tower. My basic rule of thumb would be to keep hitting no matter what until either:
(a) gate card is used*
or (b) I have made a substantial profit.
*If the gate card is used but that row is VERY low in points, I will sometimes go one more row to hopefully get a higher value, but not often.
The keys for me were to not get greedy and realize that quitting early at a small loss is much better than stupidly risking one more row just to bust and lose my entire bet! When I was playing JUST to make a profit, I had to force myself to forget about even trying to get a jackpot or even thinking about it, just to focus on making 50 or 100 or 200 gold per game (depending on how high the stakes are) ... It takes a while, and it's hard forcing yourself to not try for a jackpot once in a while, but in the end it's worth it. After a (long) while you will have a

sum of money built up, then you can use that to play around, go for jackpots and such... Hope that helps.
