    I' confussed about the combat?

A while ago, i forgotten when, but PM did a presentation on combat, and it looked absoutly amazing. The slow mo bits, the use of the enviroment and like using his sword and his body. Yet, in the pressentation that were shown at e3 and GDC the combat looked nothing like the combat i saw. There were no slow mo's, no use of enviroments and it was all just about the sword and no body. was it just a coinsidence that there were none of these features or have lionhead removed this incredibal combat?????? a dev to speak up about this would be greatUp []

I noticed the same thing too, the first combat was in Bowerstone and looked incredible but the new combat looks drab... the combate where they first showed multiplayer (fighting against the hobbes) looked G o o d [Good] too but the wraith marshe (or whatever its called) looked a it lame

Re: I' confussed about the combat?

It's still in, somewhere amongst the 12 hours of E3 podcasts on my ipod from this year is a 1up conversation that goes like this:

"We got a private demo from Iain, I can't remember his last name but he's a lead level designer for the game.  He was showing us combat and it looked spectacular, you can kind of play out the battle with the spectacle in mind.  So it's kind of like 'well I'm not going to fight in the courtyard, instead I'm going to go over here and jump off the roof and knock over the fruit cart'.  If you know the key to making combat look amazing it works really well."

That isn't an exact quote but pretty close, I can link you the three podcasts if you want to listen for yourself.  They are about 10 hours long put together so I'm not going to listen through them again for it. Stick out tongue [:P]

Re: I' confussed about the combat?

This is something I'm wondering aswell.

I remember watching the videos with the really cool moves, like stabbing someone through the heart or pushing them up a wall and stab them. Now in the most recent videos I havn't seen any of that, so im a bit worried. I think the slow mo's are still in but they only occur when you kill a harder enemy, but im not sure. I would be glad if someone could clear this up  Up []

Re: I' confussed about the combat?

I believe it has something to do with the flourish, like if your weapons starts to shine you press a button to finish off the opponent, thus triggering the slow mo. Thats what i think anyway.

    Correct Smily [:)]

    Gamespot:
How hard you push buttons and how long you hold them for will have an effect on the attacks that you perform, as will your weapon choice, and your proximity to other enemies or environmental objects.

Those factors also play a part in determining whether or not cinematic "battle flourishes" are triggered during combat. Flourishes take the form of quick camera close-ups, slow-motion sequences, and the like, which look G o o d [Good] enough to make you feel even cooler than usual as you do battle with multiple enemies, but aren't so indulgent that they interfere with the battle or its pacing. Another noteworthy feature of the flourishes is that they're not limited to special moves, so while slow-motion roundhouse attacks are cool and all, you'll also have plenty of opportunities to bask in the glory of a headbutt, an elbow to the face, or an attack from behind that you block without even turning around.

Re: I' confussed about the combat?

i thought flourishes were different now, in that you purchased the upgrade for them and then held x to charge. during the charging, if an enemy attacks you, you parry it but the charge is lost. if you charge all the way without being attacked then you pull off a flourish which deals extra damage and knocks the enemy over if it doesn't kill them outright.

Re: I' confussed about the combat?

I'm wondering about this too, the combat in the E3 videos was just flat, and it didn't have the whole music unlocking element, slo mo and environmental kills that made it look awesome in that demo vid from 2007 I really hope they haven't watered down the whole system...that would ruin it for me...

this is the vid i'm talking about .... HERE

Re: I' confussed about the combat?

i think the only reason the combat didn't look G o o d [Good] at e3 and other places because it was actual off the street people playing the game with a non-upgraded person. from what PM has said, you have to purchase many of your moves, like the flourish. Obviously, when a dev or Peter plays, their going to want to show off everything their guy can do

I'm thinking that, maybe the build he was using for the demo in that vid his character was upgraded for the purpose of showing off combat and how deep it can be. I just hope it really is that epic and I love the whole music thing, it's so ingenious!

All of the neat environmental, musical and cinematic bits you saw in Peter's demo are still in the game.  Don't want to accidentally give too much away so suffice to say there are valid reasons you didn't see much of them in the E3 demo.

(Yes I'm in the office at 5am.  No, you can't infer how close we are to a gold build based on that fact.)

This is GREAT news. I'd assumed the worst from the E3 / GDC demos but this has renewed my faith in the game.

So, thanks for that. Up []

I know that one of the vid's that I remember watching, PM playing was giving a demo and actually changed the level of his Hero from I believe what was a lvl 1 and moved up to a lvl 7 and some of the abilities that the new attributes allowed.

I think it does rely upon what level your Hero is at, what kind of weapon you are wielding, and any extra attributes have active.

I'm just frustrated because with every video that I try and hear any kind of music or the drum beats with which to time the combat with, I only hear a tiny smidge...mixed in with all of the background noise, commentary, and gameplay.

So needless to say, it's going to be a long (just over a) month until it comes out. Sad [:(]
