Its human nature to create cliches. Why do you think there is a common word for it, in fact the word Cliche is a cliche, because once it started being used heaps in books and movies everyone started overusing it (and often as it goes... badly), just like always using the term 'irony'... badly, ala that crappy Morresette song.
In the case of any successful thing, people will try to profit from it.
Here is a weird thing for ya... Without cliche there would be no evolution (of philosphy or nature). Things are built on the

Technically the Human appendix is a cliche. Once used with purpose, then over-copied redundantly to the point it has lost its relevance and we have no idea what it does.
