Learning from the Past - A Better Future.

To whom it may concern, I loved the game Fable, I even got The Lost Chapters, and I felt it was a good game. It was no where near what it was advertised to be, but if you take it for what it is, and not for what Lionhead said it would be, it's a good game. Though I loved the game it did have a few glaringly obvious flaws, so Lionhead please get a pen and a notepad. 1: The inability to choose gender or voice seriously hindered it's appeal, particularly for female gamers which have become a significant part of the gaming community at least here in the United States. 2: The restrictive paths and limited PC to NPC interaction (no interactive dialogue) and the serious lack of moral decisions during quests seriously hindered the feel of the game. 3: Being called a hero even if you were a wicked villain seriously ruined the feel of being evil, as did the constantly respawning guards and the lack of any real long term consequences for being either good or evil. 4: Scarring became problematic, many people dislike being covered with scars, and there was no way to ever get rid of them. 5: Too much content was cut. These five points aside I still really like Fable the Lost Chapters, and I hope Lionhead will learn from past mistakes and make a better game. Please, try to emulate Gothic 2 to some degree, make the paths of good or evil more significant and divergent, and keep the open ended gameplay but make good and evil quest chains and give us more choices in quests allowing us to be utterly vicious or insanely altruistic. Alignment Specific Gear, Spells, NPC friends, Guild Membership, NPC reactions, and NPC companions could all go along way too. Like I said I love Fable: The Lost Chapters, so I really hope this reaches someone with some input on Fable 2 and that the Lionhead Curse is lifted with the next game.

i dont understand peoples objection to not being able to choose gender. Who complains about the terminator being male, or Ripley from alien being female? I didnt moan when I first played tomb raider, or about sonic being a blue hedgehog (obviously sexist!) Yes, it would be a cool option, but people are getting soooo angry about it! why?

I don't know anyone angry about it, but I can explain why so many people wish they could have made a Female character in Fable. A very large and growing number of video game players in the United States are female, and Fable was marketed as a game that lets you create and customize your character as your in game avatar. All the games you mention center around premade characters who are not meant to reflect the persona of the gamer, the antagonist in Fable however is meant to do so, which is part of the motivation for including so many different types of hairstyles, tattoos, and clothing (along with alignment changes). It would be a lot easier for the millions of female gamers to identify with a female character than a male one. Also working in gender selection would be relatively simple and require minimal effort. Oh Lionhead, if you do make female characters with female armors, please keep in mind that most female gamers dislike overly revealing armor that wouldn't protect against blade nor cold in real life. Maybe throw some revealing stuff in for the boys but also have some real armor for the girls Wink [;)]

i see your point, and all i can say is my girlfriend loved fable, and didnt complain about being a dude Wink [;)] It would be cool to have the choice and im 95% certain it will be in the sequel. But some people seem to get VERY worked up about it. next guys will want a male charcter in metroid prime Big Smile [:D]

well if you watch the trailer it does have two characters, a guy and a girl, who both look like heroes. Which does lead you to assume there is a choice. It also, somewhat more importantly, would point to Co-op play of some sort... Yum. Lots. If only it was on PC....

Re: Learning from the Past - A Better Future.

Although I agree that the addition of a female playable character would add a new dimension to the game, I do not think that it would make the game more player appealable to the female gamer market. The ability to play female will draw the male players in, just has females like to be able to play with a male character, so does the opposite apply. As for your opinion on decent female armour, it should be the same as a male hero, just maybe more shaped to the female body. Say what you want there is nothing more neat looking than a scanty dressed female warrior wielding a powerful weapon. Personally I play as a male character in most games when the option of both is available.

Re: Learning from the Past - A Better Future.

All I can say is I spend a good bit of time at the girls dorm on Game Night, my girlfriend likes fable but sometimes mentions that she wants to be a dark sorcoress. Most of her friends have at least brought up that there's no playable female character, and a few won't really play it (they never bother to get into it) because they can't identify with the character. It's a pretty typical American dorm, I'm assuming this trend holds true in other places as well. I may be wrong, it's not a scientific survey or anything, but I think it indicates a likely trend worth looking in to (and for Lionhead a potentially expanded market.)

I disliked the scars as well. While I think it might be a good look for some characters, I don't think it's a good look for all. I say make the scars appear over time but offer some kind of optional method for healing. Happy [:)]

Maybe some of the tattoo artists could also double as "ye olde plastic surgeons"? (To remove the scars... not change the gender of the character in mid play.) That would leave mental scars which no plastic rhinoplasty specialist could ever hope to repair ;-)

I remember I (and probably others) posted the idea for a healing sorceress/sorceres once. A person with high knowledge of healing magic that will make scars dissappear. For a hefty price of course.

WHO THE HELL WANTS TO SEE A MUSCLEY CHICK?! Woo! I'm so aroused by this flaming red beserk female warrior! The way I see it, chicks like to see muscley guys more than they do muscley women. Guys would rather see a muscley guy than a muscley woman.. lest they turn homosexual over the matter. Edit After watching trailer another 900 thousand times: I guess females would be a pretty nifty inclusion, FOR FABLE 2. I guess if you were going to choose a female character, you would either be a female player, or a guy trying to perve - in either case, you probably wouldn't upgrade their physique to anything unattractive. Unless you're into that sort'a thing... I guess I was being sexist before, so I apologise. The only problem with a female character would be that you couldn't strut around without a shirt on, which was just plain COOL in the original. Well, you probably could, but it would boost the rating up to MA Restricted (The original was M15+, here in Australia... dunno about you other wacky countries) I LOVE LIONHEAD!

If you want to prevent scars learn the 'physical shield' spell asap. It takes alot of mana at start of game but it worth it to prevent scaring. You can do the whole game without scarring, as long as you do not mind a blue glowing hero!
