When we had vBulletin, the karma that we are speaking of was points
that we gained, or lost, when people repped another. If you made
a

, contibuting post, people would (+)Rep you. If you made a
bad post, like spamming, or just making a downright awful, offensive
post, you got (-)Rep.
If you had enough negative points, you would be put under as Low Karma
and Very Low Karma (there was a certain number of points that lead to
this). After that, you would automatically get banned. I
used to love the day when we had Karma because the people that got
banned would almost 90% of the time would come back as an alternate
account and spam the forums.

Positive Karma meant that if you would have enough points, you would
gain a Medium Karma, and eventually a High Karma badge. The High
Karma members had their own little forum as well.
But, none of that stuff exists anymore. Post Count is pretty
worthless. But admins give out badges like Disciple, Modder,
Lurker,

Member, etc... these days. But that is only a pick
and choose sort of thing.
