I would suggest that you try Blender 3d instead, the modeling techniques you will learn will be more relevant to a future in 3d.

SketchUp was used by the Fable II level designers to make rough designs of levels and dungeons.  I tried to use it to put buildings on Google Maps but wasn't allowed...

Really? That's interesting, I hear a lot of people also use NWN Aurora Toolset for level design, which is what I use myself. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Sketch Up is too great for creating things like character models. Well not in high res anyway.

It's mentioned in Episode 4 of the LH video diaries about World Design...

Just downloaded it, the perspective seems kinda wierd, When the horizon is horizontal the ground plain seems skrewed ... It's also annoying trying to find a camera angle to build vertically :\

I also don't know how to make walls' opacities lower, if that's possible, it's annoying not being able to see the other side of something, I might try building some landscapes or something first, before a castle Glasses [8)]

So it is... Pretty cool, though I haven't actually used it myself, seems like a pretty G o o d [Good] tool for level creation.

Haaa Google Sketchup, I used this program before discovering blender, I made a mock up version of my house and every item in my house lol, I found it very user freindly but also very limited, although in retrospect I was only new to model making at that point so I probably didnt notice the advantages, I know it was alot more user freindly then blender (it took me about 2 months to learn the basics of that program lol).
