I found a way by accident, that I was able to recreate once, to get off map in Westcliff that I thought some would find interesting (and probably giving up the best hiding place ever from run-by giftings). I did do a search, here and google and I think this is new - Sorry if it is not. I also do not have the means to take a video, so I'll try to write it here with pictures for examples:
While exiting the Westcliff rivers/water through the cave exit, if you run up to the ladder it will automatically teleport you up to the exit, up a cliff near the Slaver camp; instead I edged to the right of the ladder and the "A" climb button appeared - and thus pressed it. and ended up somewhere in ladder limbo:

If you move too much you fall back into the cave, but if you press A again fairly quickly, you end up here:
I have not thoroughly explored the area, and your dog is left behind, but so far the most interesting thing is that this provides you a means to view Westcliff from the top of the Crucible if you run up the hill that is showing in the picture above. From the top:
You can fall off to the sucessive levels:
Finally drop down in from of Mad Dog and the other Guy:
I accepted the Crucible Challenge - finished the round and my dog was there waiting for me at the exit (not sure what happens at this point if you do not accept - you may need to find your dog back at the exit cave).
Sorry if this does not make sense - and really wish I had a means to video this - but hopefully others can follow this garbled explanation enough to fill in the gaps and post with better examples/video how to's. Sorry again of this is old news...
