Hi, trying to play Black and White 2 on an HP G60.  Installation went fine but the game wont go past the splash screen, just freezes there.  Drivers are all up to date and DX is the newest, patches for the game both installed.  I've searched the forums but cant seem to find anything relevant. Any help?

Edit: Forgot to mention, its on Vista 32bit (surprise surprise) and it's a laptop.

Edit2: Also forgot to say, have tried compatibility on XP Sp2, 2000 and 98, with admin and disabling visual themes.  Still no luck.

I believe vista's cause people quite a bit of trouble with B&W2...

Iv seen a lot of reports here of it working perfectly fine with Vista once compatibility mode was enabled, and it works on Windows 7 RC with compatibility on.  Just seems so strange for it to freeze on the splash screen, its not like its rendering anything special that might cause problems.

Freezes on the Splash Screen are most often caused by the games copy protection. Use a working crack is the least hassle.

On the other hand side, make sure you don't have anything running in the background that could cause problems. Windows skin software such as WindowsBlinds or Video codec packs such as K-Lite are common trouble makers for example.

Again and again and again, I can only say that this does have nothing to do with Vista. The game works stable and fluent on Vista! Maybe one needs to run it in administrator mode to give the game some extended file access that it probably needs. The user rights restriction on Vista (or Windows7) is much stricter than it was on WindowsXP and this is why many applications have problems accessing vital parts of the system. Although it is very easy to solve.

Last but not least, make sure you fit the minimum system requirements, especially concerning a graphic card that supports Shader Model 1.1 or better. Especially notebook graphic chipsets often cause problems to support this features.

Did try using a no-cd crack, now however its been uninstalled and reinstalled and the patch installer is saying the installation is corrupted and to reinstall.  Considering where it was crashing before I'm thinking its entirely possible the same thing had happenned but to a lesser extent before, trying a few options with another reinstall.

The game now seems to be not installing completely correctly.. I think it was probably like this the first time round so its something to do with the DRM?

The game does not have Digital Rights Management or online authenticity check. The copy protection "only" checks if you have a legal copy of the game in your drive.

Installation problems? Could be anything ... care to post some more information ... error messages for example.

I would suggest a new installation.

1. Remove the game from the System by uninstalling it from the Windows Software Center.
2. Use a registry cleaner like CCleaner if you are unsure that the game was totally removed from the system registry.
3. Reboot the computer.
4. Install B&W2 with administator rights.
5. Install both Patches.
6. Replace the original game.exe with the cracked one. Remember to save a copy of the orignial game.exe before you overwrite it.
