If it would have been the Games Convention in Leipzig, I could have spend an afternoon there, but Cologne is too far away to just go there for a few hours. Too much to do at work to get a full day off. I should not have gone on vacation in the first place the last weeks.

I'm confused. Are Gamescom and GDC Europe separate events? They have two different websites and GDC takes place Aug 17-19 while Gamescom is 19-23. They're both in Cologne, but Sam's using Gamescom and GDC Europe interchangably in this topic. As far as I can tell they're two parts of the same show, with GDC being for developers and Gamescom a trade show open to the public.

Always wanted to go to an event like this, Maybe next year
