There are multitudes of movie competitions that have or will be going on within this community. My question is this: Has anyone ever thought of having a script writing contest? Wouldn't it be cool if the winner got to choose to have their movie made by any willing member of the TM community that they wish? Imagine having your award winning movie directed and produced by StevenKreg or DD Studios or....(insert any other award winning studio here)! There's a potential blockbuster TMO movie!

I think that this sounds great! But, I'd defiently lose. Just think, there's tigereyes, capemedia, Stevenkreg, Double D and many more who are all awesome and much better than me.

Script Writing Contest are ever where in the real world for up and coming films writers. I think is a great idea. but like all contest will there be rules on stuff all , what is about, how long it is or just free form type. just so I can have a head start JK.

This is a very interesting idea. But my questions are: (1) Would there be anyone interested in making a TMO movie out of other people's script?; (2) Would people be comfortable having their script directed by other people?

Well I would participate in this (depending on how busy I am at that very moment) lol But yes I think it is a wonderful idea, but what happens if Stevenkreg wants to join? Wouldn't he make it himself then? OR are you going to not allow "well-known" studios join? The rules and regulations need to be looked over but the idea is a great one!

Maybe we should do it something like a little world cup. 5 groups (1 per genre). You submit it to whichever genre you're in. The idea being we pick out the best Horror, Scifi, Action, Romance, and Comedy scripts. Then we have a pool of directors to choose from. Something like that anyway.

These are very true for real movies. But I am not sure of TMO movies. I feel that writing scripts and making movies are inseparable process for TM. (You have to constantly think about what is available in the TM in order to write, and the script keeps changing as you realize you cannot materialize particular parts of the scrip with TM.) I think I would be pleasantly surprized if a really good director volunteers to direct other people's script. I know I wouldn't.

I'd have to disagree, to a certain extent. I'm sure if we were to do something where we offered others the chance to make the movie that was scripted, it could be another test of the director, to see how they made the original vision come alive. It's not always easy, but it's rarely impossible -- and I'm sure it'll be even easier now with S&E.

To a certain degree, I guess. But I know I have to sacrifice the script a lot in order to make it doable with TM. And it is really difficult to write a TMO script without constantly thinking about how to execute it using TM. And directing involves so much chore and skills that are not useful outside of TMO, whereas scriptwriting is much more straightforward and is an exercise of a transferable skill. That's why I would be surprized if someone is willing to direct other people's script. Arguably, with free camera, directing a TMO movie will become a higher craft, for want of better expression...

I got a 340 page screenplay right here, set to be made into a very epic three part film...but I'd be willing to submit it against anything thrown at it, win or lose ^_^ I'd just like to see how well I actually write screenplays, versus other people...and I'm pretty sure, I do average writing at best, but hey...ya never know right?
