Please don't be misled by the title, this thread isn't about your thoughts on what the future of gaming is going to be, I think that subject as probably been discussed to death in the Natel section, that and the fact that I lack the brains to come up with thread about the inevetiablity of the ever changing gaming industry, Instead this is a thread about up and coming games that are on there way out, maybe not so far in the future or maybe as far as next year and such. I do realise we have the "Games you are looking forward to thread" but in this thread here you don't necessarily have to be looking forward to the game to post about it and discuss it, I got the idea for this thread from looking at the Section 8 and Dante's Inferno threads and thinking maybe we should just put them all in one big pot, I hope you enjoy this thread although to tell you the truth this thread could go either mostly due to the similar nature of the other said thread.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned
I've just been looking at this game on wikipedia and it looks like it could bode well, it's a free roaming pirate game for all those people here who always wanted to be a pirate ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif) and even though it's set in the Pirates of the Caribbean world it is set before the events in the old Prequel sort of thing they do in games these days, the game despite being set in the same world as Pirates of the Caribbean it is (apparently) not connected in any other way to the events that happened in Pirates of the Caribbean, which to me is a big positive given that it's less likely to make any messy plot holes, in the sense that some of the lovable characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean series convenieantly bump into our new hero and have a jolly quest with him but for some reason every one tends to keep quite about it in the movie.
Though I did find some thing in the description of this game and would one of you please tell me if this sounds sort of familiar
"The game will give players a character who has a predetermined appearance and personality, and based on their actions, the player will shape the character. Choices the player makes in the game will change the appearance and personality of the character. The game's main focus is to allow players to choose how their character is seen in the world. This will allow some players to be more feared while some are just more respected."
Lol, I wonder were they got that from lol, that aside I'm sort a looking forward to what this game could become.
"IrishMorn" If Adon and Sagat step in....ah, what the hell, I'll get drunk and join in on that one.

If the game's character creation consists of a single page saying "Would you like to be wearing a hat : Yes / No" and the resulting generic pirate either has a hat or doesn't then they've fulfilled their remit. Unless you choose "yes" and don't get a hat, that would just be them f****ng with your head. Later in the game you could be presented with a scroll detailing how to grow a beard. There's a choice that'll define how you look. Job done. Hey, the way I'm churning out game ideas, I could work for EA...

I was just noting it seemed a little familiar to the whole Fable way of creating your character, the whole morph thing, personally I hate the whole more thing, I'd just rather customise the look of my character (Facial features and such) from the start, I do respect the whole concept your body getting bigger the more you work out but sadly I don't think lionheads version of that(dropping XP orbs) is as ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) as dynamically changing your body depending on how you fight and how you solve things until you reach you physical peak.

You've just ripped that off from Nintendo, haven't you? As one very reliable source said before the recent gamescom
Nintendo will make a shock unscheduled appearance and demo their new peripheral, the Nintendo Hat. A beaming Miyamoto will take the stage dressed as Hat, and explain that as gaming is reaching a wider audience, so we also need to identify more with these new gamers. And everyone can identify with Hats. So Nintendo has invented the Nintendo Hat, a Hat-shaped device that plugs into your Wii, which enables your character in-game to wear a Hat. Put the Hat on - your character wears a Hat. Take the Hat off again - the character removes the Hat.
Critics will explode with joy and declare this revolutionary device will change the face of gaming forever. The product will ship immediately bundled with a new game called WiiHat (£89.99, r.r.p) and go on to sell 48 million units by the end of fiscal year '09.
Nintendo are wise to your thieving ways Mr Berry, and I'm told they intend to vigorously defend all their hat-based ideas and IPs. Your lawyer-free days are numbered.

Re: The future of gaming.
Well... in truth I lied about the source being reliable. It was me said that, about four or five threads down so it's possible I made some all of it up. But they might do it, which is a nice thought isn't it?

Damb you old man (Shakes fist) I was looking forward to my new hat feature, lol, sadly enough it wasn't that surprising that the people at Nintendo would thing that it would be a ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) idea.

Re: The future of gaming.
Mafia 2:
Again on my regular stroll on the "List of Xbox 360 games" page on wikipedia I stroll upon a game that I'd seen and liked the trailer of on the 360, the game is about a guy named Vito coming home on leave from WW2 to embark on a life of crime. The game promises to be a more darker and grittier look on the world of gangsters and the graphics look amazing. However there still is the point of the main character being named Vito and with the looks of the trailer he lives in a small apartment with his wife struggling for cash... I wonder were they got that Idea from Godfather 2 perhaps??, any ways the rest of the game looks brilliant and doesn't look much like they've copied any other Ideas from Godfather two accept from said mentioned.
I didn't however play Mafia 1 which was meant to be a brilliant game so I don't know if this game as any direct relation to the story that may fall flat on me given that I don't know the original mythos. Anyways what are your thoughts on this game Ladies and Gents I'm sure there many of you out there with much higher knowledge of this game then me or wikipedia.

Re: The future of gaming.
It has been announced today at Tokyo Game Show that Splinter Cell Conviction will be out February 23, 2010.
I was really looking forward to play this game on the X360 (I am a sucker for stealth games) and I am glad to know that it will be out one day before my b-day: I can start warning friends and relatives now and just wait for the package to appear in my house the day after the release date.
I am not entirely sure it is going to really be a ![G o o d [Good]](/emoticons/g_o_o_d.gif) game, but doesn't it happen to you, sometimes, to want a game jsut because it's part of that specific license you like, even though yo uare unsure of the final quality?

Re: The future of gaming.
Just been wandering around Gamespot and I've seen pictures on a game called Jurassic Park:The Hunter however there seems to be very little information on this game aside from a few pictures and such so this game most have been in the dark for a while. Has any one else here heard any thing about this game.

Re: The future of gaming.
Sorry for the double post but it is too late to edit. I have just found a game on wikipedia named Jurassic Park: Trespasser, the game was the first one to use rag doll physics along with a lot of features that were far a head of the games time (too far a head for the game to handle) I am wondering if this is another attempt at that only with the technology of today. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
I would hope Crytek were to make a Jurassic Park game. Some thing close to how Far Cry 2 worked with the map and wild life only set on one of the Islands in Jurassic park.

Re: The future of gaming.
Wow, if only I had Crysis, or a computer that could run it. This is why I hate console games at times, along with hating not having a high spec computer.
So Maggot what are your opinions on Jurassic Park game similar to how Far Cry 2 worked?.
