    Question about running The Movies

Hey, I'm not sure if this is exactly the right topic to ask this question but here it goes. I downloaded the demo earlier today and was able to play the game just fine without any lag or anything. Even though my laptop wasnt built for gaming, i figured id be able to run the movies since the demo worked for me. But after buying the game and installing it, it wont let me get past the loading menu. Is the graphics card the problem? Are there any solutions, suggestions?

Re: Question about running The Movies

This might be better in the tech help forum http://allboards.lionhead.com/forumdisplay.php?f=54 Perhaps you could be a little more specific; you say it doesn’t go past the loading menu. Do you mean the game then completely closes? Or does it just freeze on the menu?
For some reason Birdo clearly has the voice of a Japanese man in this trailer. It's like... eating a cake. You expect the cake to be delicious, but when you bite into it, it sounds like a Japanese man. See what I'm trying to say here?

Re: Question about running The Movies

Make sure that you've installed DirectX 9.0c .

Re: Question about running The Movies

It goes up to the screen where the lil loading bar is at the bottom. it fills up about half ways but then stops and goes back to windows. theres a error window on the desktop saying the program encountered an error and had to close. im pretty sure i have direct x9 downloaded

Re: Question about running The Movies

Oh ooh! I know the answer to this! It loads and it crashes, RIGHT?! This happened to me. Get a new computer. I had a Dell Windows 2003 or something. Well, it was really my graphics card and if you call the actual Lionhead Calling Line on the back of your box they will tell you if your card is right and which one you should get. Well for me, to get a new graphics card for my specific make of computer meant I needed to specially order one, because my computer was a compact style and more slim. Anywho, I ended up buying a totally new PC anyway.

Re: Question about running The Movies

My laptop is completely brand new, bought this year. The only thing is it has a very basic graphics card. I figured i wouldn't be able to run any decent games on it but like i said, the demo ran perfectly and the create an actor thing runs fine to. I just want to know if this is definately a graphics card problem. If it is then theres really nothing else for me to do =\.

There was this site (i forgot what it was) i think it was made by microsoft (who now own LH). It would evaluate your computer and see how good the graphics card is, and what kind of games you can run. If only somebody could tell me what it was ( i found it in the Off Topic Forum).

Re: Question about running The Movies

Suddenly thought of this. I bought and downloaded the game from direct2drive.com. Could the file be damaged from the site? Has anyone had the problem before?

Re: Question about running The Movies

Buy boxed games. There is a generic patch for the movies on the LH website. Theres a reasonably good chance that direct has its own patch as well. Also, be sure to get Stunts and effects Happy [:)]

Re: Question about running The Movies

Sorry if this has been talk about. But it could also be the Video Card. Cause even though I have a Pentium four processor in creat a star and in make over department the cerictures are all screwd up. So I'd check the box and find out what Video card it takes. Hope that helped Happy [:)]

Re: Question about running The Movies

when it bombs out like that it's ALWAYS the video card. Run the test for The Movies at srtest.com. More than likely your video chipset can't handle transform and lighting in the hardware (HW T&L). This doesn't always prevent the game from running but it's the most common cause of this kind of failure - HW T&L is one of the minimum requirements for running the game. What you could do is force a safemode bootup (Start the game, use Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up Task Manager, kill the Movies.EXE Process before it dies a natural death, restart the game, follow the onscreen instructions for Safe Mode start) and see if the reduced graphics settings make a difference. You can also manually set the graphics level to low by monkeying with the registry, but that's never a good idea - the only thing you can say for certain about monkeys is that their **** smells like bananas, everything else is random, variable and usually bad news. The same goes for the results of damaging the registry. go to Start \ Run \ Dxdiag you can collect some information here about your system so we know what spec you have (video chipset, video memory, system processor, system memory, etc etc). That kind of info is also available on srtest.com

Re: Question about running The Movies

I have the same problem. brand new Dual Core computer, 256 Nvidia laptop, meets or far exceeds all specs, but crashes to desktop EVERY TIME at exactly the same place, after the ATI screen, under the Movie Star when it's halfway loaded. Anyone have any ideas? Help would be appreciated. I've run it with all background programs disabled. Re: Question about running The Movies

I installed The Movies, and it's all well and G o o d [Good] until it comes to actually playing the game... Problem No. 1 is: every time I click on the desktop icon it tells me to insert the disc (even after re-inserting the disc I can't use this shorcut) - but this I can deal with... But problem No. 2 is a whole different story... after re-inserting the disc (disc 1 ofc) and using the auto-run feature, the initial screen opens up, but I'm not given the option to actually play the game, only to install (which leads to uninstalling) and other similarly useless options... An error message also comes up, telling me the 'executable J:\Setup\rsrc\TheMovies.exe' has had an apparently 'unrecoverable' error: it couldn't find the library MSVCR80.dll (required by C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\OFFICE12\MSOXMLMF.DLL), and it asks me to check that it's installed, but if I've installed the three discs, I don't understand where else it could be? =S

As I'm sure you can understand this whole thing is INCREDIBLY frustrating, so yeah, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.
