    Programming basics.

    Hey Everyone,

Haven't been on this sub section before, but I feel it's the right time with college in a week.

I'm studying IT for 2 years at college, the curriculum is really really detailed. I'll be doing programming, designing, website design, softwarfare designing, game dev, so lots.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any free programmes on where I can maybe catch up on some basics of programming (C++,C)

It would be incredibly helpful because I could learn from it before college and in my free time.

    Thanks

    ~Ash

    Re: Programming basics.

I know you asked for free basics, but I was really impressed with the C++ for Dummies and Visual Baisc for Dummies books. They both really break things down for you really well. The C++ one comes with a compiler as well. You might also want to start a small project. Something to give you a goal. My first program was made to ping several servers at my work and simply return a pass or fail on each. I was able to find everything I needed to write the program on the internet using google and some forums. Eventually, it evolved into a program with changing icons and checkboxes, and it looked fairly impressive. But, if you don't have a goal, your going to find yourself beating your head on the desk while you read textbooks.

Thanks for the help, could you maybe post some links on here: Maybe links to sites with baics? Would be much appreciated.
