    leet poetry

hey ya'll.  In one of my uni classes we've been asked to write a monologue (one person only speaking).  I decided to do one about evolving language (in the context of netspeak).

Any comments on how to make it meatier or leetier would be appreciated.  Otherwise, hope its at least interesting.

    lol more epic fail
we spoke again, face to face
    but he dont get it,
    no common ground.

    ffs
how many times, the same stories,
    over n over, stfu!
    the stories were G o o d [Good].
    they used to be
    roflcopter G o o d [Good].

    things change, and evolve

    but when conversation doesn't

    something gets lost,
    becomes destructive.

    without connecting
    there is only individual,
    u and i - no we.

    i told him gtfo,
    no more stories, no more
    “misunderstandings”
    but he dont get it,
    wtf?
    *facepalm

Yeah I'm lost. I guess I'm not fluent in this internet speak yet. Is it a problem if you're 20 and don't speak? I must take lessons.

    Re: leet poetry

I wrote this first to guide me in the creation of the poem.  It's not exactly what I'm trying to say in it, but the idea I'm rolling with:

To communicate ideas one must know and speak the language of the listener. One can seek out those who speak the same language, but only if one doesn't want to speak to the others. As technology evolves so too does language, and text or leetspeak has evolved into its own strictly visual language where collections of letters signify concepts and ideas more strongly than the words they vaguely represent. To ignore theses terms entirely is to ignore a growing dialect unbounded by physical terrain.

    Re: leet poetry

    I like it.

The fact that some people did not understand it is a G o o d [Good] thing. It's the whole point and purpose of leet speak, to disguise meaning from those who are not leet. Used in poetry I really like it as a linguistic device. Kind of like writing dialect poetry I suppose.

    Re: leet poetry

You know, it reminded me of this piece of poetry which is supposed to make sense somehow:

    < > ! * ' ' #

    ^ " ` $ $ -

    ! * = @ $ _

    % * < > ~ # 4

    & [ ] . . /

    { , , SYSTEM HALTED

I wouldn't know, I have only very basic (hah!) BASIC skills, and there it ends. But the magazine in which it was printed is about ten years old if that is any help.

    Re: leet poetry

I clicked on the thread in glee, expecting a thread full of things like
    roses are #ff0000
    violets are #0000ff
    all my base
    are belong to you

The text I found reminded me of marketing schemes intended to communicate with the youth on their own level, without really grokking it and insulting its intelligence in the process Sad [:(]

I wouldn't call it leetspeak per se, more like retarded teenager on internet speak. If that's your target audience you probably should corrupt the spelling sum moar. Take the line: "
how many times, the same stories,"

Commas, slugfly? Commas? Stick out tongue [:P]

    lol, this kills me!!   Xp

I agree with what you're saying about the voice...  I'm okay with the txting kid voice, but any suggestions on how I can make the point more evident, or the kid's drama more interesting (or supplant the kid with something less gossip-girl)?

edit: maybe I'm force-feeding the 133715M5.  I'm gonna try a draft with them toned down a bit, maybe try to make them a bit more punctuating.
