I rather Lionhead just take the stats off of all the weapons like they
did with clothing. However, I propose another more complicated idea:
I like the idea of a bunch of different looking swords with the same
stats. To me, it adds customization similar to the new clothing system
introduced in Fable 2.
I use Wretcher's Blade not because it's the strongest, but because I
like how it looks. However, I'd think it'd be fantastic if Wretcher's
Blade, The Judge's Sword, The Maelstrom, Rusty to Master One Handed
Bladed Weapons, Rising Sun, etc. all had the same stats, and you could
just find them and upgrade them yourself to your desired statistics
through constant use and blacksmithing.
Then, you'd have neat interesting looking weapons, that the player gets
to customize with special augments and stats. Add the ability to give
these weapons a name, and voila, custom legendary weapons that fit your
hero.
Make a limit on how much a weapon can be customized, and vastly
increase the number of one-hand blade/blunt, and two-hand blade/blunt
models and everything is A-Ok.
(Same goes for guns obviously)
(Vast amounts of weapon models are possible, think Dark Cloud 1 & 2)
(Example: Two Hours into the game, my hero Sparrow runs through a
dungeon and finds a new longsword model (let's use Wretcher's Blade
{Base Stats: 19 Attack, No Augment Slots} again as an example.). He
uses it for a while, gets 50 kills with it, and gets the option to
upgrade it once, adds Augment Slot. 75 more kills later: Increase
Attack Stat. By the end of the game, if I stick with this one weapon, I
could have renamed it Demon's Nail - 66 Attack, Flame; Ghoul;
![E v i l [Evil]](/emoticons/e_v_i_l.gif)
Triumphs; Devastation)
Now, instead of finding a model of Wretcher's Blade (Renamed in game as
just Wicked Longsword or something), replace it with the Judge's Blade
(Noble Cutlass), or Iron Longsword or Steel Cutlass, and imagine you
could get the same results, same stats, same augments.
The result is that any weapon you find can become Legendary. Maybe have augments be the real Legendary add-ons that we quest for, but I'd like to just have a weapon that I like the look of, and not feel like I'm handicapping myself because of it.
