LIONHEAD!, please take your time on Fable III!

Although a much sooner release date would be nice. I really do think that Lionhead should worry about the quality of their next installment above everything else.

Fable II, although an alright game, had an awful lot missing, and only really kept me entertained for about 3 months - Not quite worth £40.

I know that in comparison with most other game developers, Lionhead is a relatively small company. This is what I feel was the problem - there was no need to rush in creating Fable II. If they'd taken more time, maybe they might have delivered a more satifying game.

What I was thinking was that maybe it would be a better idea if Lionhead waited until after the release of the whatever will succeed the Xbox 360 - which is almost certain to have a Blu-Ray drive.

A Blu-ray disk will mean that it will have around 3 times the memory which it would have in a standard DVD-ROM. This will mean that the game can be longer, more realistic and more fun.

I know this may mean we'd have a lot longer to wait, but its worth it for an awesome game.

Another idea I've had was to put information of everything except the quests on the disk, and then have the quests as downloadable content from Xbox Live, and for Lionhead to carry on releasing more and more quests until finally Fable IV is released and thus the story is finished off.

    What do you all think?

Re: LIONHEAD!, please take your time on Fable III!

I agree that I would rather wait if it would mean a better game in the end (just as I said years ago with Fable 2).  However, I can't say this for certain but I would wager that the economics of delaying for extra polish wouldn't be in Lionhead/Microsoft's favor.

I don't think the nextBox will be releasing anytime so I doubt they will delay until then.

Blu-ray doesn't necessarily mean a longer or more realistic game, well, for now anyway.  It definitely doesn't mean it will be more fun.

The problem with putting things like quests on XBL is there are a still a large number of gamers who just play offline.  If you go this route, those people get shafted.

    Are you an ODST (fanboy)?

Re: LIONHEAD!, please take your time on Fable III!

Well I think you're forgetting that Blu-ray is owned by sony so would cost a fortune to get on the successor to the 360, and why use blu-ray when we could potentially have Terabyte discs in a couple years.

Plus the lifespan of the 360 is said to be roughly 10 years hence NXE and natal coming out.

is the next xbox even in conceptual stages yet? i agree that it kinda sucks that fable 3 is coming out quite so early, but there's no sense in letting 5+ years slip away waiting for the blueprints to a console so you can actually make something on it...

Re: LIONHEAD!, please take your time on Fable III!

The Blu-Ray Disc Association includes the following companies as board members:

    Apple Inc.
    Dell Inc.
    Hewlett-Packard
    Hitachi, Ltd.
    Intel Corporation
    LG Electronics (Lucky GoldStar)
    Mitsubishi Electric
    Panasonic (Matsushita Electric Industrial)
    Pioneer Corporation
    Royal Philips Electronics
    Samsung Electronics
    Sharp Corporation
    Sony Corporation
    Sun Microsystems
    TDK Corporation (Tokyo Denki Kagaku)
    Thomson SA
    20th Century Fox
    Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group
    Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc.

Okay, Microsoft isn't on there, fair enough - but I'm sure that at least one of them would be willing to strike a fair deal.

You're thinking of 5 dimensional DVDs. Which will, of course, be totally awesome, but for now that's just a pipe dream. Maybe for the successor of the successor of the Xbox 360, but not any time soon will it be practical.

The Original Xbox lasted for around 5 years on the market. Supposing there's a pattern, the next one should be released some time in 2011. Plus competition for Sony and Nintendo will encourage Microsoft to speed up its development.

Re: LIONHEAD!, please take your time on Fable III!

It wont be released 2011 because it's already been stated that this generation of console is set to last about 10 years. Ps3 included in that, hence the inclusion of motion controllers, otherwise they would not waste their time developing natal for the 360 when a new one would be out the next year.

And they're not a pipe dream, terabyte discs are set to come out in probably about a year and research has been going on for years.

    but what about the nintendo?
they developed their motion controls for this console,
soo as the sales of wii fit+++ slow down they looks kinda likely to make a new console...

same applies for their handheld... theyve already made 5 DSs and there making another... what else can they do, but make new stuffs?

oh wait... theyre making a HD wii arent they?
    nvm.

Re: LIONHEAD!, please take your time on Fable III!

I think that Fable 3 has been in development as soon as Fable 2's story was finished. Then they would update the graphics etc as time went by, By that time we should have it "very" soon.

If I'm wrong can someone correct me. Thanks.
Your people just destroyed a hard built character with a simple stupid decision. Yes i understand the game said it was irreversible

A HD wii would be amusing. I think they should actually get the motion controls working before trying to improve graphics. Nintendo will do what the must but the xbox and playstation still have a lot of life left in them.

Re: LIONHEAD!, please take your time on Fable III!

My phone cost three times the price of my PC so I doubt mine will last as long as yours. As for Fable III, you're assuming that they're starting on a fresh game by asking for a much longer development time (something that makes no real difference to game quality as proved by Too Human). The fact is that they've been working on the game for as long as they've been working on Fable II because it'll use the same game engine and probably a lot of the same systems too. What we'll get is Fable 2.3 (I'm assuming they'll release at least one more Fable game using this engine during the next few years). Kind of like the way Vice City and San Andreas were both built using the same game engine as Grand Theft Auto III, with some refinements to the game engine and new features. Of course, Fable III will have had two extra years development time over Fable II so we can hope it'll be a better experience and that the new features will be nicely polished.

Well my computer cost 100 pounds more than my phone (but I've got an iphone Stick out tongue [:P]) But they've already said they're fine tuning features and mechanics, which brings to mind a video of a much better one button combat system that PM wanted but it was too late to implement which did things like wall kicks.

I'd forgotten about that. Yeah, that'd be a nice feature to implement. Shame that it fit the last game better than it'd fit a regal setting. Still, revolutions can be messy...

Moving swiftly on from the chances of profanity Stick out tongue [:P] but there were 2 demos if I remember, one was extremely early and just a pre-recorded video which did fancy stuff throwing people downstairs, the other was at a tech demonstration a few months ago I believe, and I cant remember exactly but it might of just been a room rather than bar.

Sooner would be nicer, but honestly all I want is a G o o d [Good] game. Fable II was rushed and you can tell.

When I spend the 40 to 50 bucks on a game, I expect to be buying the full thing. Not something rushed that I'll have to sink more money into on DLCs.

Re: LIONHEAD!, please take your time on Fable III!

I am not sure the next generation game consoles will even have disks. I think they want to make all of it downloaded content.
    reasons
    1. no production cost of disks
    2. no lost sells from people trading games
    3. no lost sells from people loaning out games to friends
    4. MS has no soulCry []

I don't like the idea but I guess it does have some advantages for the customers.
    1. No more scratched disks
    2. If you are robbed they can steal your console but can't take all of your games (just contact MS and you could redownload your content to a new console, by that time they may be able to turn off your old console like cellphone companies do with cellphones, that way theives don't get to play for free)

I can't think of anymore advantages to not having disks. I prefer to have disks but feel that game consoles will drop disks completely. I haven't heard of any new type of disks but that would be cool.
