I would just like to advocate mechanical pencils, they're just like pens except they're not filled with hate. I have 10 with me at any one time. Also good for pencil fans, but a good tip is to get well used to pencils before moving up to mechanical pencils. Fact fans.

I would recommend using a mixture.  Mechanical pencils are clean and Hassle free but your lines are limited to the measurement of the lead.  It is much more difficult to vary line width or tone with them.  The drawing above is in simple Staedtler HB pencil, which I find the most comfortable.  Of course you also have to consider what paper you are using...

LOVE it so far im going through all the pictures and this one shows the most promise, well in artistic abbility any way,love the fupa, hate the hands, and i wanna see more of the dog make it more then a sketch. keep up the good work
