For me it went wrong in two main places.1: The ability to change your stats whenever you wanted (killed replay value for me)2: The money was too easy to come by, there wasn't enough to spend it all on (100 million? pfft...)Plus other minor annoyances like the lack of lockpicking (killed a whole night-time element) and single items only for sale.
