I had a similar problem.  Same lockup during loading screen - it just goes black and the Xbox stops responding completely.  After the Jan update, instead of a total unresponsive Xbox black screen, I get a message that the hard drive is no longer attached to the Xbox. Lionhead and Microsoft showed their f!@#$% asses on this game.  ...

I have an altogether different issue.  I'm not done with the game and I can't get the save game to load.  I've tried installing the game to the hard drive but that didn't work.  Every time that I press A to continue game, the load screen comes up and then everything goes black.  Even no XBox dashboard access.  WTF ...
