Ugh, I had this problem too, it went away when I reloaded the game however so try saving then reloading the game.

I don't have a ''favouret'' island however my FAVORITE is probably land 1, it just seems so much more attractive than the other lands, its just a darn shame you dont get to spend very long on it.

You can create a script that assigns more than one creature to you, so technically it is a mod, not hard to do either. I actually prefer the screenshot I took from a slight side view, you can actually see his chin against the cubs head on it and the adult looks like hes smiling, problem being he's looking directly in front of himself... staring off screen.
